Hoover E. Gunter
Hoover Elmer Gunter, 82, of Yakima died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Garden Village.
Mr. Gunter was born in Ashton, Idaho. He served in the Marine Corps and worked for Boise Cascade for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Gunter; four children, Marion Gunter, Glenn Gunter, Byron Gunter and Lori Lopez; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 4 at the Central Assembly of God Church in Yakima. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.
Joel J. Wehrman
Joel J. Wehrman, 76, of Selah died Friday, May 13, 2011 in Yakima.
Mr. Wehrman was born in Pipestone, Minn., worked as a truck driver and lived in Selah for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wehrman of Selah; a son, Dennis Wehrman of Selah; a daughter, Janelle Wehrman of Kirkland; two brothers, John Wehrman of Bordentown, N.J., and Jim Wehrman of Houston; two sisters, Janis Eichhorst of Tucson, Ariz., and Jean Wehrman of Kingman, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial and time of fellowship will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pomona Gun Club in Selah. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.
Joseph Gagnier
Joseph “Joe Ray” Raymond Gagnier, of Yakima, passed away at home on May 13, 2011, at the age of 76. He was born on November 16, 1934, in Bottineau, ND, to Arthur and Blanche (Roberge) Gagnier.
Joseph spent 12 years at the Notre Dame Academy in Willow City, ND. He served in the Army for four years then moved to Fort Lewis, WA, to be close to his two older brothers who were working on the Grand Coulee Dam. He worked for Memorial Hospital as an electrician for 25 years and he was a member of the IBEW Union for 40 years. He was also active with the local VFW efforts and a member of the NRA for most of his life.
Joseph married the love of his life, Marcella Ann “Sally” Hager on April 28, 1958, in Rugby, ND. They were married for 52 years. They enjoyed traveling in their RV and camping with their grandchildren.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Ann “Sally” (Hager) Gagnier in August of 2010; one grandchild, Jake Tyrrell; and brothers, Clifford and Ralph Gagnier.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Tyrrell of Yakima; sons, Remy Gagnier and Clifton Gagnier, both of Yakima; grandchildren, Stephanie (Phil) Christenson, Eric Larson, Ryan Tyrrell, Jody Tyrrell, Marcy Gagnier, Jason Hill, Justin (Kayla) Hill, and Jessica (Dale) Morford; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Gagnier, Zack Gagnier, Steven Morford, Riley Morford, Riker Hill, and Grace Christenson.
A memorial mass for Joseph and Marcella will be held on Monday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral in the chapel.
Vivian A. Davidson
Vivian A. Davidson, 71, of Naches died Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Davidson was born in Denver. She worked in bakeries for many years and lived in Naches for 16 years.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Davidson of Naches; three sons, Jesse Littleton of Friday Harbor, Anthony Davidson of Federal Way and Chad Davidson of Enumclaw; four daughters, Vicky Griffeth of Sedro Woolley, Judy Akiens of Eagle Creek, Ore., Angela Smith of Puyallup and Shonnette Scott of Tacoma; 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Gladys Christine Stubbings
Gladys Christine Stubbings, 75, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday May 12, 2011, at her home in Yakima.
Gladys was born on Feb. 10, 1936 in Marshall, Alaska to Bill Shungnak and Mary Owletuck. She was orphaned at the age of 3 when both parents died of tuberculosis. Gladys and her older sister Frieda were taken in by relatives, and both sisters went to live at St. Mary's Mission in Marshall when they reached school age, remaining until graduation from high school. Gladys moved to Seattle to attend Seattle University, rooming in the family home of the man she would later marry.
Gladys married Joseph Stubbings during her junior year of college, December 26, 1959. She became stepmother to Joe's son Patrick. Three children later, Joe and Gladys traded city life for rural, bought a farm in Zillah, and continued to live there until Joe's death in 2006. Gladys worked as a medical transcriptionist in the valley for most of her life, retiring from the Yakima Valley Farmworkers Clinic in Toppenish.
One of her greatest passions was fishing, and later in life, any casino that had a penny slot machine. She adored her grandchildren, overcoming her fear of flying to spend time with them in Arizona as often as possible.
She is survived by her children, Patrick Stubbings of Olympia, WA, Lisa Rothamel of Gilbert AZ, and Randy Stubbings of Zillah, and her grandchildren Laura Palachuk of Seattle, WA, Megan Palachuk of Walla Walla, WA and Alexander Rothamel of Gilbert, AZ.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, infant son Richard, and son Robert, and her sister Frieda.
Funeral Mass will be at Resurrection Parish in Zillah Wed. May 18, 2011 at 1 pm. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.
Cesario Larios
Cesario Larios, 82, of Yakima died Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Mr. Larios was born in Coalcoman, Michoacan, Mexico, and lived the last seven years in Yakima. He worked as a laborer in the agriculture industry.
Survivors include his wife, Francisca Larios of Yakima; seven sons, Jesus Larios and Salvador Larios, both of Baltic, S.D., Jose Luis Larios of Mexico, Antonio Larios and Lorenzo Larios, both of Yakima, Ignacio Larios of Tieton and Angel Larios of Tampico; three daughters, Raquel Larios, Esperanza Mendoza and Maria Gutierrez, all of Yakima; a sister, Refugia Larios of Mexico; two brothers, Ernesto Larios of Mexico and Ignacio Larios of Union Gap;
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. May 20 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A graveside service will be held immediately following the viewing on May 20 in Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima.
Brian J. Wilson
Brian J. Wilson, 51, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 after an extended illness. Mr. Wilson was born in Ballard and raised in Yakima. He did carpentry work before working as a salesman for Ray's Meats and later Oakwood Homes. He was also a part owner of the L & A Drive-in.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Wilson; a brother, Randy Wilson; a sister, Pam Wilson Lucas; three daughters, Stephanie Graham, Ashley Wilson and Whitney Wilson; his companion, Denise Bridges; and two granddaughters.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
