Marcos V. Chavez
Marcos V. Chavez, 95, of Yakima died Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Mr. Chavez was born in San Carlos, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He lived in the Yakima area for more than 40 years. He worked as a gardener.
Survivors include five sons, Jose Chavez, Marcos Chavez, Jesse Chavez, all of Yakima, and Fernando Chavez and Frank Chavez, both of Salem, Ore.; four daughters, Maria Elena Cantu of Selah, Alicia Chavez of Yakima, Elisa Cavazos of Salem and Margarita Sherman of Sunnyside; one sister, Guadalupe of New Laredo, Mexico; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
Donna M. Beeler
Donna M. Beeler, 68, of Yakima died Friday, June 24, 2011.
Mrs. Beeler was born in Chicago. She lived in the Yakima area since 1996. She worked as a bookkeeper, beautician and owned three companies.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Beeler of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Virginia Russell of Yakima; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jose Luis Negrete
Jose Luis Negrete, 34, of Sunnyside died Friday, June 24, 2011.
Mr. Negrete was born in Cuermaro, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was a farm laborer.
Survivors include his parents, Antonio and Amalia Negrete of Mexico; two brothers, Antonio Negrete and Elodio Negrete; and three sisters, Amalia Garcia, Alicia Negrete and Graciela Negrete.
Viewing is today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m., at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Mass will be Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside; the service time is pending.
James Calvin Miller
James Calvin Miller, 86, of Zillah died Friday, June 24, 2011 in Toppenish.
Mr. Miller was born in Longview. He worked as a farmer for many years and owned Miller and Sons HVAC.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Miller of Zillah; four sons, James Miller and Eric Miller, both of Zillah, Brian Miller of Yakima and Jeffrey Hale of Virginia; two daughters, Leslie Miller of Las Vegas and Jennifer Freelan of Bellingham; and a brother, Curt Miller.
A family gathering will be announced at a later date. Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah is handling the arrangements.
Debra M. Lewis
After a two-and-a-half year battle with ALS, Debra M. (Brunker) Lewis passed on June 23, 2011 at the age of 60. She was born on March 1, 1951, to William Thomas and Dicy (Boden) Brunker in Spokane, WA. She spent most of her life in Yakima and graduated from Davis High School in 1969.
Debra was a loving mother and a grandmother and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved anything that involved being outside in the sun, including gardening, camping, and collecting rocks along the river and the beach. She loved to take trips with her friends and did so every chance she could. She worked for twenty-five years for Dr. Schlesinger and the last ten years for Medical Center Lab.
Debra is survived by her father, William Thomas Brunker of Yakima; her life partner, David "Joe" Lewis of Yakima; son, Jacob Bryant (grandson) of Yakima; step-son, David D. (Sarah) Lewis of Auburn, WA; daughters, Tiffani (Gary) Karnes of Yakima, and Jennifer (Bruce) Lewis of Yakima; brother Michael Brunker of Renton, WA; honorary nieces, Lindsay Carter of Yakima and Katie Antles of Yakima; nephews, Cody Brunker of Renton, WA, John Adams, Jr. of Portland, OR, and Rod Adams of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Tayor, Jordan, Cece Marie, and Elijah; close friends, Mary, Debbie, Marv, Deb, Jill, Janet, Sharon, Nancy, Wanda, Kris, and beloved dog, Roscoe who never left her side.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Nora Boden; her mother, Dicy Brunker; and her brother, John Adams.
A memorial celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Yakima with reception to follow the service at the American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
Jennie J. Cowden Hull
Jennie J. Cowden Hull, 83, of Yakima died Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Mrs. Hull was born in Alva, Wyo., and lived in the Sunnyside area for more than 30 years. She worked for a chiropractic clinic in Sunnyside for more than 20 years.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Cowden of Yakima, Jerry Cowden of West Richland and Jay Cowden of Spokane; a daughter, JoAnn Kaiser of Spokane; two brothers, Tom Collins of Yuma, Ariz., and Bill Collins of Pasco; a sister, Phyliss Wittig of Denver; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
Catherine (Fox) Deaton
Catherine (Fox) Deaton went to be with our Savior Jesus on June 20, 2011.
Catherine moved to Washington from Laurel, Montana when she met William V. Deaton, to whom she married in 1944. Catherine and William raised their two children Jerry and Tom, in Granger, until William passed away March 17, 1969.
Catherine worked in a Nursery school and as a clerk at the local grocery store in Crewport, WA. Catherine was an avid gardner, craftswomen who shared her talents with many. She was known for her famous apple pies, and peanut butter cookies that she enjoyed making for her kids, friends, her 6 grandkids, and 8 great grandkids.
Catherine is survived by her two sons Jerry Deaton of Sunnyside, WA, Tom (Patty) Deaton of Outlook, WA; sister, Sally (Gordon) Murray of Zillah, WA., Jeanette (Jim) Patterson of Salem, OR., and MaryLou (Jim) Ball of West Linn, OR.;two brothers, Herman (Barbara) Fox of Yakima, WA., and Richard (Terry) Hindman of Craig, AK.; and Arlene Fox of Moses Lake, WA. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fred Fox, and James and William Hindman.
Catherine will be laid to rest with her husband, William, 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24 at the Zillah City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to the Granger Library. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
