Ruth Palacz
Ruth Marion Reimer Palacz passed away June 14, 2011. She was born June 9, 1926 to Rudolph and Emelia Reimer in Flasher, North Dakota. In 1936, Ruth and her family moved to Toppenish, Washington. She married Joseph John Palacz in 1950 in Toppenish.
She worked for 35 years as a floor lady in food processing at Stokley Van Camp and Independent Food. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and crafting, canning, and making Christmas candy. She was known for being a great wife, sister, mother, neighbor and friend. She was always willing to share her knowledge and skills and would help those in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Kathryn Davis, Bertha Shaul, Clara Messenger, Helen McClintock and a brother Emeil Reimer. She was also preceded in death by her husband and two granddaughters, Shannon Burkhardt and Julie Palacz. She is survived by three sisters, Maggie Pardee, Frances Hays, Annie Koch and a brother Fred Reimer. She is also survived by a daughter Sharon (Don) Fergus and a son Richard (Ruth) Palacz. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Jennifer Hall, Stephanie Palacz, Cassandra (Jason) Byers and Corinne (Travis) Minton, and one great granddaughter Abigail Hall.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 16 from 10 am to 6 pm with Rosary following at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, WA. Service will be Friday at 10 am at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah with burial to follow at the Zillah cemetery. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
Mary Ann Vermillion
Mary Ann Vermillion, 75, of Yakima died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Vermillion was born and raised in Yakima. She worked for a short time at Meerdink Market and was a homemaker.
Survivors include a husband, Henry Vermillion of Yakima; two sons, Jerry Vermillion of Yakima and James Vermillion of Irvine, Calif.; one grandchild and one step-grandchild.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Victor Vijarro
Victor Vijarro of Moxee, WA passed away on June 14, 2011 at Yakima Regional Hospital at the age of 48 years. Victor was born in Toppenish WA on August 3, 1962. He is the son of Tranquilino Vijarro and the late Enedina Vijarro. He was raised in Toppenish, WA where he graduated from Toppenish High School. Soon after Victor graduated he served his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the Marines he enjoyed driving 18 wheelers. He drove for many years, until his illness with diabetes. Victor also enjoyed a good game of golf, fishing with his nephews, camping with family, and “hanging out with his buddies”. Victor’s smile, laughter, crazy and funny jokes will be missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his father Tranquilino Vijarro (Janie), his brothers, Hector Vijarro (Chana), Ramiro Vijarro, Eddy Vijarro (Cindy), and David Vijarro. His sisters, Inez Vijarro, Rita Vijarro-Mungia, and Lucy Walden (Tom). Several nephew, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother Enedina Vijarro, paternal grandparents Torbio and Filomena Vijarro, maternal grandparents Adolfo and Josephina Martinez, several uncles and aunts.
Viewing will be on Tuesday June 21, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, WA. Followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Toppenish. Burial Mass will on Wednesday June 22, at 1:00 p.m., St. Aloysius Catholic Church, in Toppenish with inurnment following at Toppenish Elmwood Cemetery. Reception to follow at the St. Aloysius Parish Hall. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements.
Verne A. White
Verne A. White, 84, of Moxee died Monday, June 13, 2011 in Yakima. Mr. White was born in Montour, Idaho and served in the Army during World War II. He lived in the Yakima area for more than 35 years and worked as plant manager for Bell Telephone Co. for many years.
Survivors include his companion, Joan Gross of Moxee; two sons, Danny White of Spokane and David White of Moses Lake; and a brother, Allen White of Coos Bay, Ore.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Katie L. McFarland
Katie L. McFarland, 59, of Yakima passed away at home on June 13, 2011. She was born in Hickman Bend, Arkansas on August 21, 1951 to Raymond and Ruby Stewart.
Katie moved to the Yakima area in 1969 and worked for Yakima Convalescent Care as well as Keller Fruit. She later worked for the Post Office as a supervisor. She thoroughly enjoyed working at the Post Office.
She was married to her husband, Larry McFarland for 39 years. They were married on February 7, 1971. Katie enjoyed serving the Lord and was a member of Bethel Community Church for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Her parents, Raymond and Ruby Stewart, and her brother, Dink Stewart, precede her in death.
Katie is survived by her husband, Larry McFarland of Yakima; son, John McFarland of Hoquiam; a daughter, Christy Baker of Yakima; brother, Floyd Stewart of Yakima; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be offered Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 12PM-7PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. The funeral service will be a 12PM on Friday, June 17, 2011 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima.
Maria Marisol Flores
Maria Marisol Flores, 81, of Sunnyside died Monday, June 13, 2011. Mrs. Flores was born in Gonzalez, Texas. She worked as a farm laborer before retiring.
Survivors include six sons, Miguel Flores of Texas, Juan Flores, Albert Flores and Jose Flores, all of Sunnyside, Victor Flores Jr. of Grandview and Paulino Flores of Yakima; five daughters, Carmen Gomez of Yakima, Carlina Ayala and Silvia Rocha, both of Sunnyside, Aurora Ruiz of California and Linda Baltazar of Prosser; 70 grandchildren and more than 70 great-grandchildren.
Services are pending. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Sunnyside.
John Albert Cook
John Albert Cook, 60, of Naches died Friday, June 10, 2011 in Yakima. Mr. Cook was born in Auburn and lived in Naches since 1986. He worked as a janitor for Arrowhead Cleaning Services for the last seven years.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanine Cook of Naches.
Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Zelma I. Ginder
Zelma I. Ginder, 95, passed away on June 10, 2011, at Landmark Care Center with loved ones at her side. She was born on January 16, 1916, in Abilene, Kansas to Samuel Richard Liles and Florence Lena (Rush) Liles. She met Pete at the roller-skating rink and they were married two years later in 1934. They came to Yakima in 1937 and have lived here ever since.
Zelma is survived by her daughter, Patricia Wood (Fred); sister, Alma Mae Yates; three grandchildren, Kathy Gray (Ken), Fred Wood (Irene), and Judy Dodge (Shawn); seven great grandchildren, Leslie (Kyle), Erin (Adam), Jason (Katie), Shawna, Kailey, Tanya (Chris), and Freddy (Heather); and three great-great grandchildren, Caleb, Dominik, and Freddy, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Clifford Ray Ginder and Dickie Ginder.
Family would like to give a special thanks to Ruth and Leonard Pickett for all their love and support. Also to Landmark, especially Glee, Mary, Kathy, Monica, and the many aides who cared for Mom in this time of need.
Visitation will be offered from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Graveside services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima. Those wishing to attend the burial should meet at the cemetery.
