Marilyn Bancroft
Marilyn Jean Bancroft, 79, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away in Yakima on October 6, 2010. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to James and Hazel Morbeck. Marilyn graduated from the University of Idaho and worked as an executive assistant in the Seattle area for many years.
She is survived by her son, David Cort of Seattle; two daughters, Sharon Bancroft of Portland and Lois Bancroft of White Salmon; and one sister Hazel Fryar of Yakima; as well as six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Rafila "Rae" G. Bateman
Rafila "Rae" G. Bateman, 89, of Yakima died Wednesday, October 6, at Good Samaritan Care Center. Mrs. Bateman was born in Teotihuacan, Mexico. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Flores of Yakima; a sister, Pauline Garcia Slagel of Bonney Lake, Wash.; and one grandson.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, also at St. Paul. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
Katie Wattenbarger
Katie Wattenbarger, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on October 3, 2010. Katie was a longtime resident and farm wife in the Glade Community in the Horse Heaven Hills of Southern Washington. She was a life time faithful member of the Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church, having served as a choir member, financial secretary, and kitchen coordinator for many years.
She was famous for her baking skills, especially butterhorns and cinnamon rolls. She was an avid Mariners fan who loved to watch their games on TV. She was a dedicated supporter of fund raising efforts for the American Cancer Society and the ALS Association. One of her true virtues was being a loyal friend.
Katie was born October 16, 1922 in Outlook to Frank and Mary (Van Patter) Kinkade. On January 26, 1946 in Sunnyside, she married Francis J Wattenbarger of Mabton. To this union were born two sons, Larry and Kirk. She tragically lost her son Kirk to ALS in 2004.
Survivors include her husband Francis, son Larry (Dena) Wattenbarger of Bourbon, In., daughter-in-law Kay of Sunnyside, grandchildren Alissa (Wes) Pugh of Bourbon, In., Ryan Wattenbarger of Sunnyside, Emily (Thaine) Tribalski of Etna Green, In., Chad Wattenbarger of Sunnyside, great grandchildren, Kacie and Kyle Pugh of Bourbon, In., sisters Ellen Dahl of Sunnyside, Sylvia Dobrauc of Yakima, and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Kirk, parents Frank and Mary Kinkade, stepmother Victoria Fields-Kinkade, brothers Alva Kinkade and Harry Kinkade, and sisters Mabel McDaniels, Nancy Hatch, and Elizabeth Ann Kinkade.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Katie's name be made to the American Cancer Society, ALS Association, or the Sunnyside Grace Brethren Church.
Viewing and visitation for Katie will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 10:00 am, at the Grace Brethren Church in Sunnyside. Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
Donald E. Stoll
Donald Eugene Stoll was on born June 10, 1932 and played his last hole on October 3, 2010 following a long battle with lung cancer. Don was born in Ellensburg, WA to Eloyde and James Stoll. He was the oldest of three children from a broken home that were raised by a number of relatives for short periods of time.
Don enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and served for four years. After leaving the Air Force, Don worked in maintenance most of his life. He was employed by Hidden Valley Guest Ranch, Central Washington University and then Sundown M Ranch until his retirement.
Don found the love of his life, golf, at the age of 50 and played golf almost every day at the Elks after he retired. He had four holes-in-one in his golfing career. He managed to get two holes-in-one within three weeks of each other in June of 2000 at the Elks Golf Course in Selah.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanne M. Wilson. He is survived by a brother, Harold (Virginia) Stoll of Orlando, FL; a sister Judy Beezley (Bob) of Ocean Park, WA; a number of nephews and one niece. Don was the surrogate grandfather for his great-nieces, Susan and Zoe Wilson and his great-nephew Josh Wilson.
At his request, there will be no services.
Laura E. Partch
Laura Esther Partch, 92, of Yakima died Saturday at Summitview Health Care. Mrs. Partch was born in Grandview. She worked as a Rosie the Riveter for Boeing during World War II.
Survivors include a son, George Partch of Seattle; a daughter, Earlene Diener of Naches; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside committal service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Cathy Lou (Wedel) Kuntz
Cathy Lou (Wedel) Kuntz, 67, of Selah, WA passed away at home on October 1st, 2010 after a four and a half year courageous battle against cancer.
Cathy was born in Lamedeer, Montana on November 8th, 1942.
She lived and went to school in Laurel, Montana except her last two years in high school.
She worked for the Park County Courthouse in Livingston, Montana, attended Business College in Spokane, Washington and worked for a number of years during the summer months at Eaton's Dude Ranch in Wyoming. She retired from Livingston General Hospital in 2004.
Cathy loved horses. She received much happiness when riding or just being around them. She was an avid bird watcher and was always trying to find and identify birds she hadn't seen.
Her family was important to her. It brought her happiness whenever she saw them. She loved to visit with them. Family reunions were special to her. Her grandmother Mary Rowland was especially important to her. She learned many things from her and spoke of her often.
Cathy is survived by her husband Phillip Kuntz Jr. of Selah, WA, daughters Nancy Tritthart (Bob), Virginia Billings, stepson Boyd Kuntz, brothers Larry Wedel (Patricia) of Hyattville, WY and Steve Wedel (Kris) of Spokane, WA and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Helen and Harold Wedel.
Her body is to be cremated. Inurnment will be at Custer Cemetery in Custer, Montana. At her request no services will be held. A small family gathering will be held at the cemetery.
Cathy's family would like to thank all the personnel at North Star Lodge for the compassionate care given over the last four years. A special thanks to Dr. Thomas E. Boyd, all the nurses both in the chemotherapy and the radiation units and all others involved in her care.
We would also like to thank Memorial Hospice for the special care given these last months. The nurses who guided us through this difficult time have earned our deepest respect.
