Derek Edmonds
“I AM AT PEACE”
Derek Lee Edmonds, son, brother & loyal friend went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2010. His courage and resolve was amplified by a kind and loving spirit; something that we will all miss now, but hold dear in our hearts forever.
Born February 8, 1988, Derek’s love of all things, all people, and all friends started at a young age. His adventurous nature started with him and his sister building forts out of sheets in their bedrooms and it culminated with numerous adventures/misadventures with his cousin and dear friend Andy Young.
Derek developed a love of Alaska at an early age and was blessed with the ability to spend several months during the last several years there. He felt it was a place to “live on the edge”- as he liked to say.
As far as people went, Derek was the most polite person you could ever meet.
Always “Sir” and “ Ma’am”, always considering what he could do for you, Derek was never one to complain about anything that was happening to him. Whether he had just lost his job, had no gas, no money or anything to his name, he was mostly concerned with how you were! The heart of this young man was as wise and mature as any who have lived. He had a deep attachment to family and his dream of going back to Nebraska to meet family was recently fulfilled and gave him much happiness.
Robert Charles Harrild
Robert Charles Harrild, 74, of Yakima, went home to the Lord November 8, 2010 after courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born March 24, 1936 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima to Edmund and Jessie (Wells) Harrild. His family moved to the Seattle area where he attended schools in Alderwood Manor and Seattle.
He met his wife of 54 years, Kathryn, in grade school at St. Catherine’s. He was a graduate of Seattle Prep Class of 1954. They were married in 1956 at St. Francis Xavier Mission, Cowlitz Prairie, Washington. They were made their first home in Shoreline. They were blessed with four children; Therese, Paul, Julie and Andrew.
Robert worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 22 years before leaving to pursue his dream of running his own business. The family moved to Leavenworth to operate Haus Rohrbach Pension, one of the first bed & breakfast in Washington State. Robert was noted for pampering guests, his story telling abilities, his wonderful gift of humor, and mouth-watering breakfasts, in particular his Dutch Babies and sourdough pancakes. He took great satisfaction in the fact that he left three homes and the Inn better than he found them. Bob, a man of deep faith, left those he knew better for having known him. After 22 years as innkeepers they retired and moved to Yakima, Washington.
He is survived by wife, Kathryn; children Therese, Paul (Angie), Andrew (Diane); five grandchildren, Charles, Madisyn, Andrea, Abbigail and Taylor; sister Anita Topolinski (Ward); sister-in-law Barbara Roos; Aunt Myrtle Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
His parents; brother, Richard; and a daughter, Julie, preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank the Memorial Hospice Staff especially Barbara, Hillary, David, Dan, and volunteers Mary and Henny; Holy Family staff, Kathleen, Fr. Tom Lane and Fr. Ron Patnode; his best friend Ray Patnode; Bob’s personal caregivers and all the friends and family who came to visit.
