Marjorie Alice (Midge) White Lucas
Marjorie Lucas passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 at the age of 88.
Marjorie was born to Harry and Essie White in Salem, Oregon February 15, 1921 where she resided until she was 8. Midge moved to Portland, Oregon until she was 13 then she moved to Yakima. She was the youngest of six children, four sisters and one brother. She went to Franklin Junior High and graduated from Yakima High School in June of 1938. Following graduation, she attended WSU majoring in Fine Arts. During her freshman year, she met Richard Lucas. After a 3 ½ year courtship, they married shortly after his graduation, on December 20, 1941. They moved to Seattle where they both worked for Boeing during the war.
In May of 1945, they were blessed with twin daughters, Karen and Kathy. The family moved to the Yakima in September of that year. In October of 1949, another daughter, Carol, was born and in January of 1954 Roger was born.
Besides fruit ranching, Mom and Dad both held jobs outside the home. Mom was head of the Yakima Valley's 19 Branch Libraries for over 25 years, and Dad was Quality Control Manager of Decoto Brothers Aircraft Parts Company. Drawing upon her art background, Mom created all the window displays for the Main Branch Library and conducted many "story hours" in several of the other library branches.
Mom was active for many years in Selah Amity Club. She also was a 4-H leader and active with the Selah swim team while the twins competed. Mom also bowled in several leagues over the years. Along with her sisters, she did a lot of ceramics and even made some of her own molds. Mom loved to garden and had over 60 rosebushes as well as many other flowers in her beautiful yard. One of her other hobbies was photography. Mom and Dad followed their children and grandchildren in all their varied sports and activities, rarely missing an event. Mom clipped all the newspaper articles that involved any of us.
Midge is survived by her sister Lola Maultsby Anderson of Lacey, and her daughters Karen (Dean) Govreau of Naches, Kathy (John) Duncan of Selah, Carol (Gerald) Wiseman of Selah and one son Roger Lucas of Yakima. Nine grandchildren: Teresa Eims of Selah, Brad Govreau of Meridian, Idaho, Nicole Govreau of Yakima, Neil Duncan of Seattle, Eric Duncan of Monroe, Brandy Martin of Selah, Larry Frank of Santa Rosa, CA., Ashley Lucas of Richland, Kiera Lucas of Richland, Krista Wiseman of Moses Lake and Tami Wiseman of Selah. She also has 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Lucas, her parents Harry and Essie White, her brother Max White, and sisters Audrey McDowell, Gladys Maultsby and Lucille Vance.
Celebration of life party will be held Saturday, January 30, 1:00 p.m. at the Terrace Heights Civic Center. Mom loved life and bright colors; let's honor her by wearing bright colors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Haiti relief, St Jude Hospital or a charity of your choice. Thanks!

Helen Audrey Joy
Helen Audrey Joy, 78, of Yakima died Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Mrs. Joy was born in Aberdeen, Wash. She worked as a licensed practical nurse.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Joy of Yakima; two sons, Steven Joy of Moses Lake and David Joy of Twin Falls, Idaho; seven daughters, Christine Van Arsdale of Moses Lake, Judy Hepworth, Angela Miller and Kori Ward, all of Twin Falls, Mary Joy-Skinner of Yakima, Tamara Woodland of Newburg, Ore., and Jennifer Joy of Meridian, Idaho; a brother, Donald Elliott of Portland; two sisters, Violet Sweitzer of Chehalis, Wash., and Nadine Baybarz of Shelton, Wash.; 32 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 2nd, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1607 Military Road, Centralia, Wash. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Dr. William Herbert Harris Jr.
SELAH - Dr. William H. Harris Jr. died on Monday, January 25, 2010 at his home in Selah. He was born on August 15, 1920 in Seattle to William H. Harris and Blanche George Harris. He grew up in the Fauntleroy area of Seattle attending West Seattle High School, graduating in 1938. He attended the University of Washington, Montana State College, and Washington State University receiving both a B.S. in Animal Husbandry and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University.
He met Harriett Sharkey in July, 1941 at a wedding in Sunnyside. She lived in Yakima and he had many cousins in the Sunnyside area. They married on February 21, 1942 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He entered the Army Air Corps in August of 1942. He served in World War II in the South Pacific returning home in October, 1945. After finishing college he and Harriett moved to Moses Lake where he worked for Dr. Leon Bode. Their daughter, Marianne, was born in Moses Lake in 1956. The family moved to Toppenish in 1957 where Bill practiced veterinary medicine for 35 years. He and Harriett moved to Selah in 2006 to live closer to their daughter.
He was a member of the St. Francis Episcopal Church in Toppenish for many years and served on numerous committees. He enjoyed river rafting in the Southwest and family gatherings especially at Dabob Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Blanche Harris, sister Nancy Harris, brothers-in-law Robert Olds and Jack Harris, and infant sister Anne Betsy Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Harriett Harris of Selah, daughter Marianne Harris (Jack Calvert) of Selah, sister Dr. Bernice Davidson (Dr. Douglas) of San Diego, CA, nieces Anne Chandler (Benjamin) of Dabob Bay and Dr. Sally Ward (Matt) of Sierra Madre, CA, and nephew Walt Davidson (Kim) of San Diego, CA.
Bill is also survived by special cousins Ed Marble of Lopez Island, Richard Marble of Yakima, Mary Douglas of Lacey, Andy Harris of Seattle, Charlotte Miller of Sunnyside, and Marilyn Arnold of Beaverton, OR. He is also survived by his God-daughter Sara Lawrence and her family of White Swan and special friends Drs. Luke and Heather Olson and Leonard Gonzales all of Seattle.
The family would like to thank the many people who helped with Bill's care in the last few months especially Kathy and Wayne Lalley, Kim Morin-Carnahan, Rebecca Pace, Jackie Hall, Becky Mendoza, Ivan Orozco, and Kay Funk MD. Also thanks to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice with special thanks to Mary Brown, Dave Eichwald, and Sandy Ogburn.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of cremation. At Bill's request there will be no service.
Michael Edward Nagle
Michael Edward Nagle age 66, of Grandview WA, passed away Wednesday January 20, 2010 of a heart attack. He was born July 28, 1943 to Glenn and Lee (Opie) Nagle in Wenatchee WA. He was raised and educated in Spokane WA, graduating from Mount Angel Seminary Class of 1961.
Following High School, Mike attended Washington State University receiving his BS in Agriculture and graduated in 1965. On June 29, 1968 Mike married Judith Donahoo in Grandview, WA.
He worked in Prosser at the Washington State University Research Center until his retirement 27 years later. Mike enjoyed spending time fishing with his kids, dry land farming, camping and otherwise spending time with his family. He was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Judy Nagle of Grandview, son Thomas Nagle and wife Christina of Florida and daughter Jennifer Santjer and husband Jacob of Everett, 4 grandchildren, Kylie, Taylor and Cody Nagle and Tucker Santjer. He is also survived by his mother Lee Nagle of Yakima, WA and 5 siblings. He is preceded in death by his father Glenn Nagle, granddaughter Breanna Nagle and son Timothy Nagle.
Viewing with be held Monday, January 25, 2010 from 12-5 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA. A Rosary will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Grandview. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at Blessed Sacrament Church. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to Children's Hospital or Knights of Columbus.
Wally Oldfather
Wally Oldfather, 64, of Zillah died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Toppenish. Mr. Oldfather was born in Long Beach, Calif. He worked for Zillah Food Center for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Oldfather; a daughter, Sharon Salverda of Zillah; his mother, Arlynn Oldfather of Hermiston, Ore.; a brother, David Oldfather of Wasilla, Alaska; two sisters, Kathy Beeman of Mabton and Joanne Hancock of Hermiston; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 22 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 23 at the Zillah Civic Center. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
Keith Kulhavy, Sr.
Keith Leon Kulhavy Sr. of Zillah passed away January 18, 2010 at Yakima Regional Hospital of Heart Failure. He was born in Yakima on May 28, 1949 to Leonard Kulhavy and Celia Jones.
Keith attended Zillah High School. He then married the love of his life, Linda Purdy on June 15, 1968.
They both enjoyed working together on Yakima County Search and Rescue. He was a volunteer for the Zillah Fire Dept. and Yakima County Fire Dist. 5, as well as the Toppenish Police Force. He worked for Pistoresi in Toppenish and then for Star Trailers in Sunnyside, retiring from Barnett Implement in Wapato in 2000.
He loved the outdoors, spending many weekends with his family camping, jeeping, fishing, hunting and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 41 years; daughter, Sherry Privett and husband Tom; Son, Keith Kulhavy Jr. and wife Mikal; one granddaughter, Kimberly Kulhavy; one grandson, Logan Kulhavy, all of Zillah; three sisters, Lila Larson, of Port Angeles, WA, Sandy Watson of Hoquim, WA, and Elaine English of Mesa, Oregon; two brothers, Edward Carlisle of Wenatchee and Jim Carlisle of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece and one nephew.
The family greatly appreciates the Zillah Fire Department for all their help and support.
Visitation will be held from 3-6pm on Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at 11:00 am at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
