June Lucille Martin

June Lucille Martin, 81, of Yakima died Friday, April 3, 2009 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Martin was born in Chicago and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Martin of Yakima.

At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory in Yakima.

Jackie Dyral Garner

Jackie Dyral Garner, 59, of Yakima passed away April 3, 2009 of a sudden heart attack. Jack was born February 1, 1950 in Independence, Louisiana to Helen and Earl (Jack) Garner. He grew up traveling and working in the fields with his migrant family. Jack’s first job out of the fields was as an auto body painter at Van Cleave Body Shop in 1969. He later worked for several body shops in the valley, including L & P and Autocraft.

In 1980, Jack married his soul mate and the love of his life, Patricia Withrow. Together they enjoyed over 28 years of happiness. Jack and Pati enjoyed trips to Westport to go deep-sea fishing and Jack enjoyed catfishing in the Yakima River.

Jack was a very talented musician who played in several bands, including the Cosmic Cowboys, as the lead singer and rhythm guitar and bass player. He played all over the Yakima Valley and made friends wherever he went. In 1985, he won a local singing contest to represent Yakima in a statewide Country Showdown at the fair.

Jack loved nothing more than spending the day with his family and friends, barbequing his famous pork roast, playing with his grandkids, visiting with his friends, and having an impromptu jam session. Jack’s children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed the time he spent with the kids, playing at the park, having them write on his back, playing vampires, and much more. Jack was happiest when his grandkids were around.

Jack is survived by his wife of 28 years, Pati; one son, Jackson; three daughters, Cassandra Town, Helen Prescott, and Amber Masters; grandchildren Brooklyn and Jackson Garner; Kevin, Jacob, and Lindsay Town; Jack and Kate Prescott; Olivia Schantz; and Cole, Ally, and Maddy Masters; two brothers, Tommy Garner of Phoenix, Arizona and Jimmy Garner of Forrest City, Arkansas; one sister, Sue Baze of Bedford, Virginia; nephews Jerry, Billy, James, and Danny Garner of Yakima; and special friends Ray and Kay Kerney and their family.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father in law, Jess and Melba Withrow; brothers, Jerry, Bill, and Bobby; sisters Barbara and Betty; and his special nephew, Dennis Garner.

Viewing will be Friday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m.at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights with a reception to follow at the VFW.

Abel Benjamin Cantu

The Cantu family's beloved Abel Benjamin Cantu passed away on the early morning of April 3, 2009. Abel peacefully went with the Lord as he fell asleep and continued to dream with the Lord.

Abel was born on March 26, 1975, along with his twin brother Damian Eduardo Cantu. Abel was born in Toppenish, WA. He lived his entire life in Granger, WA. During his very short life, Abel attended and graduated from Granger High School. During his high school years Abel was involved with all his friends. He was also the manager for the Granger High School football and wrestling teams throughout his high school years. Abel was also involved in a vehicle accident that left him disabled for the rest of his life.

Even with his physical disability, Abel still lived his life to the fullest. He always spent time with his family and helped them however he could. He also spent time with his friends. He really enjoyed being with his friends and family, watching movies, listening to music and spending lots of time with his grandfather, Galdino Cantu.

With all he had done in his short life, Abel also had a family of his own. He is survived by his only son, Abel Cantu Jr.; his life partner, Olivia Ramirez; his twin brother, Damian Eduardo Cantu; and his beloved mother, Maria Cantu. He is also survived by his extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his grandfather, Galdino Cantu.

Abel was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dominga Cantu; his aunts, Estella Cantu, Sandra Cantu, Bertha Cantu, Anita Guzman; and his uncle, Juan Cantu.

Visitation will be held from 10am-8pm with recitation of the rosary at 7pm on Monday, April 6, 2009 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 on Tuesday April 7, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima.

Marian Ethel St. John

MOXEE - Marian Ethel St. John (Munsterman), 77, December 1, 1931 - April 5, 2009.

It was with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing, at home, of Marian Ethel, after a final decline in strength from lung cancer and pneumonia

Marian was the daughter of William and Thekla Munsterman, born in Waverly, Iowa. She spent her early years waitressing tables at small diners in Soap Lake and Yakima.

Marian was the loving wife of Norman St.John for forty-nine years. After marrying Norman in 1960 they settled into family life by working at Del Monte and tending to the family farm. Marian was an avid collector of glass antiques, a passion she enjoyed with her mother. She was also very passionate about and took tremendous pride in her gardening abilities and tending to her many flowers. She passed many hours crocheting many items which included beautiful quilts, that she gifted to her beloved family members as well as selling them at the holiday bazaars, which she looked forward to attending. Marion was very caring to her family.

Marion's survivors include her husband; Norman St.John of Moxee, sons Jim (Kathy) St. John of Almira, WA, Rudy (Carol) St.John of Warrenton, WA, Gene (Karla) St. John of Troutdale, OR, Norman (Dusty) St.John of Yakima, David (Tami) St.John of Puyallup, WA, Gary St.John of Zillah, and Jackie St.John of Oregon City, OR, daughters; Janice Gonzalez of Seattle, WA, Carol Schreck of Zillah, Sherry Mabry of Toppenish, Cheryl (Dustin) Petty of Zillah, and Alice (Jim) Bafus of Almira, WA, brothers; William (Helen) Munsterman of Wiley City, and Robert Munsterman of Yakima. Marian was a loving grandmother to her thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; James, and one sister; Gloria.

There will be a memorial service for Marion on Friday, April 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zillah First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make donations to the American Cancer Society in Marion's name. The family has entrusted Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah with funeral arrangements.

Marionne Evangeline Langemack

Marionne Evangeline Langemack, 91, lifelong Yakima resident, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Landmark Care Center.

Mrs. Langemack was born in Terrace Heights and worked for California Packing Co. (now Del Monte) and later for Circa 1800, an antique shop.

Survivors include a son, William K. Langemack of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a sister, Mariba Vitullo of Arizona; and a brother, Delbert Erickson of Arizona.

Services are pending at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.

Elsie Vickerman

Elsie was born July 25, 1926 in Avant, Oklahoma, died April 6, 2009.

She married Marland (Merle) Vickerman in 1943. Elsie was an excellent cook, and loved to hunt, fish, cut the winter firewood, and play the penny slots at the casino.

She is survived by her husband Marland (Merle) Vickerman, son Merlin and daughter-in-law Suzan Vickerman, brother Paul Brown, sister Faye Edmundson, step-mother Elva Brown, half sister Ruby Reim, and half brother Dean Brown, grandson Todd Lytle and great-grandchildren Dylan and Parker Lytle.

Elsie will be missed by many various nephews and nieces. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and the best mother-in-law and friend to many.

Visitation will be Friday, April 10, 2009 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, and Graveside services will be at the Zillah City Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

The family has entrusted Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah with funeral arrangements.
