Richard Steven Swiger
Richard Steven Swiger, 30, of Selah died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Swiger was born in San Mateo, Calif. He was a helicopter pilot in the U.S. armed forces.
Survivors include his wife, Lindsey Swiger of Selah; a son, Aric Swiger of Selah; his mother, Melinda McClain of Missouri; and his father, Richard Swiger of California.
A military memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 18 at the Yakima Training Center. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Suzanne T. Compton
Suzanne Teresa Compton, 72, of Yakima died Friday, February 5, 2010 at Willow Springs Care. Mrs. Compton was born in Schenectady, N.Y. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Compton; a son, David Wayne Morris, both of Yakima; two daughters, Laurie Oliver of Beaverton, Ore., and Donna Sue Haller-Stor of Colville, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Earl L. Bliss
Toppenish- Earl L. Bliss, 83, of Toppenish, WA passed away peacefully at 11:45 am on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Parkside Nursing Home in Union Gap with family by his side.
Earl was born in Buena, WA July 3, 1926 to Rollah Bliss and Luseal Owens Bliss Miles. Earl served in the Navy on the USS Little Rock. He received 3 medals while serving, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. Earl was a Hospital Apprentice First Class in the Navy. Earl worked at U&I; Sugar in Toppenish, WA as a sugar boiler and misc. work for 38 years.
Earl married his true love Mary Charlene Alderson on Nov. 6, 1948 in Yakima, WA. They had four sons and a daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Loren Bliss, Mike C. Bliss, and Bobby Bliss; daughter, Denise G. Bloom; two brothers, Leo Bliss and Raymond Bliss; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Albert L. Bliss; and brother, Gilbert Bliss.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10-5pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at 1:00pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Burial will follow at the Zillah Cemetery.
Dawn Mitchell
Dawn Mitchell, 69, passed away on February 4, 2010 in Seattle. She was born in Pierre, South Dakota on August 1, 1940 to Chuck and Irene (Roberts) Dunsmore. She graduated from Sunnyside High School, was married to Harvy Mitchell, and was a homemaker. She loved doll making, reading, crocheting, cake decorating and vacations to Laughlin.
She is survived by her husband Harvy Mitchell of Naches, WA; son Randy Mitchell of Wenatchee; daughters Rhonda (Garry) Beer of Paradise Valley, AZ and Regina (Benny) Baumgarten of Naches; sister Charlotte (Kotn) Jones of Lynwood, WA; grandchildren Amanda Barcello, Adam (Bugsy) Edson, Amber Baumgarten, Brittany Baumgarten, Kalub Beer and Zebulon Beer, and great-grandchildren Janessa Dawn Barcello and Addison Beer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Marvin Middleton.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday February 13, 2010 at West Hills Memorial Park. There will be a reception following the service at the Harvy Mitchell residence at 9671 S. Naches Road, Naches, WA.
Margaret Ann Ringer
YAKIMA - Longtime Yakima resident Margaret Ann Ringer, loving wife and mother, passed away on February 3, 2010 at the age of 90.
Margaret was born to Alvina and Alpheus McCarrel on July 11, 1919 in Leeseringen, Germany. She immigrated to the United States at the age of three years old and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1932, as a result of the Great Depression, the family moved to Stockton, California.
Margaret graduated from Stockton High School in 1938. She attended the University of Pacific and graduated from Humphrey's Business College. She worked at the Stockton Ordinance Depot as a secretary during World War II, as well as volunteering for the USO.
She met Richard (Dick) Ringer from Yakima, Washington while he was stationed in Stockton, prior to his discharge from the U.S. Army. The couple were married on August 12, 1945 and resided in Stockton. After the birth of their daughter Kathleen in 1948, they moved to Yakima and became lifelong residents of the Terrace Heights area. In addition to their daughter Kathleen, the couple was blessed with three sons, Richard in 1950, Michael in 1954 and Patrick in 1957. Upon the death of her father Alpheus, in January of 1949, her mother Alvina also joined them in Yakima and remained with them until her death in 1974.
Over the years, Margaret worked as an office manager and medical assistant for doctors Kurbitz, Gray, and Bergen. She and Dick were also founders, part owners and operators of the Yakima Speedway in the 1950s. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, gardening and she was an avid reader.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Alvina and Alpheus, brothers William and Douglas, and her husband Dick in August 1989. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Fuller of Spreckels, California and sons Richard, Michael, and Patrick all of Yakima; two grandchildren, Tommie Jo Greene (Brad) and great grandchild Blake, and James McClain (Sherry) and great grandchild Grant, all of California, and step-grandchild Dylan Switzer of Selah. She is also survived by her little dog Sonny, her faithful friend and companion for these past many years.
Margaret was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary and loved animals. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to either Yakima VFW Post 379 or the Humane Shelter of your choice. The family would also like to thank North Star Lodge, Dr. Julia Robertson, Memorial Hospital Hospice and the staff of Covenant House for their care and assistance over the past several months.
Valley Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a family graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 13, 2010. A reception will immediately follow at 12:00 noon at the VFW, 118 S. 5th Ave., Yakima. At that time, the family welcomes all of her many friends and family to visit, remember and celebrate her life with them.
Miss Rosie J. Lee
UNION GAP - Miss Rosie J. Lee went to be with Jesus on Feb. 2, 2010 at Parkside Nursing Home. She was born April 25, 1917 to Martin and Alma Lee in Superior, WI.
Rosie is survived by her brother Theodore Lee in Cakato, MN; four nephews, Philip of Cakato, MN; David of Lake Nebagamon, WI; Daniel of Shisago City, MN; Peter of Grove City, MN; and one niece Karen Ortquist of Cakato, MN; and a large church family at Gateway Assembly of God in Union Gap, WA.
Rosie's life ministry was feeding and giving to children. Her friends found certificates where in one year she sent money to feed 900 children. She was a very humble servant of her Lord and Savior. She never missed Christmas and birthdays for the Sunday School children, every child had a simple gift on their day.
Rose's passion was to travel by bus or train to all parts of the U.S. The greatest of all was to spend Christmas in Minnesota with the family she loved so much. Every Christmas, with suitcase in hand, she went off to the bus depot, no matter the weather, to make her trip to be with her beloved family.
A celebration of her life will be held at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima on Friday Feb. 5, 2010 at 12:30. In lieu of flowers she has asked donations be made to Gateway Assembly of God in Union Gap, WA where she was a longtime member.
