Winifred Roosendaal-Grove
Winifred Roosendaal-Grove, 93, a long-time resident of the Yakima area, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2010 at Emerald Care Convalescent Center in Wapato.
She was born May 26, 1916, in Burdett, Alberta, Canada to Teunis and Paulina Bode, and moved to Lynden, Washington at the age of one, where she attended school and grew up on the family farm. On March 17, 1939, Winnie married Nick Roosendaal and they farmed in the Lynden area. The family moved to Sunnyside in 1956, then to Union Gap in 1964, where they owned the Gables Motel. When Nick died in 1976, she continued to operate the motel. She married Elden Grove in 1983, and they remained there until they retired to Selah in 1998.
Winnie is survived by her husband, Elden; sons, Clarence Roosendaal (Maria) in Grandview and Tom Roosendaal (Rose) in Vancouver; daughters, Ruth Howard (Larry) in Priest River, Idaho and Alyce Larson of Yakima; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; two step-children, four step-grand-children, one step-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law Alice Bierlink of Sunnyside. She was preceded in death by her husband Nick Roosendaal; infant daughter, Ruth Roosendaal; son, Ronald Roosendaal; her parents, three sisters and three brothers; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Winnie often shared her faith in Jesus. Her motel reader board read "The King is coming", and she used the motel as a ministry. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and generous to those in need. She enjoyed to travel with Elden in their RV, which they used to attend church functions and visit friends around the country. Though we mourn her death, we do not mourn as those who have no hope. We thank God for her long life and praise Him for his faithfulness through the generations.
