Allen D. Wright (Cy)
Allen D. Wright (Cy), 94, of Yakima, died at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital on Sunday April 25, 2010. He was born in Emmett, Idaho on January 2, 1916 to Porter and Annie Wright.
“Cy” and Alice Crosier married on August 31, 1940. They had three children: Linda Dockins and her husband Bennie of Yakima, Sandra Chichester of Chelan, and Gordon Wright of Snohomish. Alice preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2001.
“Cy” was the youngest of seven siblings. All preceded him in death. Cy is survived by his children Linda, Sandra and Gordon; grandchildren Lori Maybee, Craig Carmichael of Yakima and Rebecca Iverson of Kirkland; great-grandchildren Toni Carmichael, Colton and Cassie Maybee of Yakima, Austin Wright-Pettibone, Aaron and Ella Iverson of Kirkland and great-granddaughter Bailey Haedrich of Yakima.
A viewing and celebration of life will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday May 2, 2010 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Interment will be in Emmett, Idaho at a later date.
Mary E. Justman
Mary E. Justman, 58, of Grandview died on Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Grandview.
She was born in Freeport, Ill.
She is survived by her daughter, Jona Justman of Springfield, Calif.; and one son, Michael Justman of Goldendale.
No services will be held at this time.
Valley Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mildred Jean Bollinger
Mildred Jean Bollinger, 81, was born July 19, 1928 in Snohomish to Phillip and Ida (Mortenson) Evans. She passed peacefully on April 23rd at her home in Ellensburg after a ten year battle with cancer.
Milly married Loran Bollinger on February 18, 1947 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. In 1948, they moved to Snohomish, Washington with their young daughter, Bev, who was soon joined by brothers, Rick and Randy.
Milly was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, sewing, canning and a variety of hand crafts. Milly's kitchen always had a cookie jar full of cookies or some other delicious homemade dessert ready to serve her visitors. Her grandchildren followed by her great-grandchildren looked forward to the ice cream cakes she made for birthdays and the pajamas she lovingly sewed for Christmas. Saturday evenings would often find Loran and Milly playing cards or out dancing with family or friends.
After Loran retired in 1980, Milly and Loran moved to Ellensburg and made their home in the Badger Pocket where Loran helped their son, Rick, farm and Milly joined local golf and bowling leagues and became an active member of the First Lutheran Church.
Milly is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Loran; daughter, Bev (Harvey) Finney of Ellensburg; sons, Rick (Sally) Bollinger of Ellensburg; and, Randy (Jackie) Bollinger of Boca Raton, Florida; 8 grandchildren: Tansy Sheppard, Yenae Ball, Britt Duque, Brandi Finney, Tracy Mattson, Brian Finney, Aaron Bollinger, and Ryan Bollinger; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eileen McGriff; Phyllis Metz, and Mary Anne Britton; and brother, Tom Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leston and Phillip; and brothers-in-law, Leonard McGriff and Dan Britton.
Milly was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who cherished her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her family wishes to thank Pastor Dennis Hickman, Hospice, Residential Home Care, and the many friends and family for their support, love, and prayers during her most recent illness.
A memorial celebration of Milly's life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Ellensburg on Saturday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Friends, Medical Hospice or First Lutheran Church.
Geraldine Charlotte Bayless
Geraldine Charlotte Bayless, 86, of Wapato, passed away on April 21, 2010 at Emerald Circle Convalescent Center in Wapato. She was born in Brawley, CA. She had worked for a telephone company.
She is survived by one son, Doug Huse of Lakeside, CA, one daughter, Dona Wolf of Landsdowne, VA; one sister, Mary Ann Mertell of Wapato, and by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in California at a later date.
Dorothy Helen Caldwell Damm Thorington
Dorothy Helen Caldwell Damm Thorington was born on June 25, 1922 in Culbertson, MT to Jessie Kathryn Strong and Cleve Caldwell, and went to meet her Savior on April 21, 2010. When Dorothy was at an early age, her parents divorced and she and her siblings were raised by her stepfather, Luther Lawson and her mother, on a ranch by the Missouri River near Culbertson. She attended grade school at a one-room school house called the Lee School, along with her other siblings, and then Culbertson High School.
She was united in marriage to David Damm on October 29, 1942 in Sidney, MT and, along with her husband, owned and operated a large dairy and beet farm there. They later sold the farm and moved to Washington State. Later she married Dyke Thorington in later years, and he was tragically killed in a car accident after only six years of marriage. She was a loving mother and good provider to her children, working long hours in various places. She was employed at Stokely Van Camps and Washington Idaho processing plants for many years, and also the Toppenish Police Department, Bon Marche, and the Yakima Bait Co. She loved to bake banana creme pies with that meringue, knitting, crocheting, gardening and tending her beautiful roses. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Toppenish and spent tireless hours helping stuff the pew seat cushions and other details to the church even after a long hard day at work.
She leaves to mourn one daughter, Kimberly Damm Dawson; three sons, Terry Damm, Tommy Damm and Donald Damm; four grandchildren, Lauren Dawson, Michael Damm, Lia Damm and Andrew Damm; and a sister, Martha Lawson Kallevig of Montrose, CO. Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Caldwell Peterson and Jean Caldwell O'Connor; by two little sisters, Cleta and Olga, who died in infancy; and four brothers, Merle Caldwell, Robert, Jack and James Lawson.
Thank you mom for your love, support, kindness and generosity. No words can ever explain what you brought to our lives. You will be so missed. I know you are in a better place with our Savior and are watching over us from above. Our love for you will never be forgotten. Thank you for being our loving mother. Your family.
Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 27, 2010 at Central Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church, with burial at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A luncheon will be held at the church following the graveside committal.
Fern L. Race
YAKIMA - Fern L. Race passed away April 21, 2010 with her family by her side after having a massive stroke.
Fern was born March 14, 1926 in Meadow, S.D. to Eleanora and Harvey Long. She grew up on a large cattle ranch with a loving family of 8 brothers and sisters. She moved to Yakima to live with her older sister Gladys at the age of 14. She graduated from Yakima High in 1945 and married Harold Race in 1948. In the late 1940's Fern was the music director for KIT radio. Later she worked as a bookkeeper, but her main occupation in life was as a loving wife and mother. She was a giving, caring person who always thought of others before herself. Fern was the beloved mother of a son and daughter. She enjoyed swing music, dancing, flower gardening and reading. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Fern and Harold were married for 61+ years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 of her siblings. She is survived by her husband, Harold Race; her son, Rodney Race of Yakima; her daughter, Rita Race and husband, Mark Lawler of Seattle; grandson, Brian Race of Nevada; great-grandchildren, Christina, Melissa and Ben of Yakima; and brother, Arthur Long and wife, Delorus of S.D.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 am at Central Lutheran Church. A reception will follow at the church.
Odell Mitchell
Odell Mitchell, 91, passed away on April 19, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Hope, NM and was a resident of Union Gap. Mr. Mitchell was a retired carpenter and World War II Veteran.
He is survived by his wife Guadalupe Mitchell of Union Gap; two sons, Charles Mitchell of Portland, OR and Dennis Mitchell of Brookings, OR; two daughters, Linda Gordon of Santa Barbara, CA and Lois Mitchell of Hillsboro, OR; two brothers, Fred Mitchell of Malin, OR and Floyd Mitchell of Klamath Falls, OR; a sister, Gladys Booth of Troy MT; and five grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
