Ronald David Stoothoff
Ronald David Stoothoff left this earth for a heavenly realm April 13, 2010 after battling Pulmonary Fibrosis for the last few years.
He was born April 14, 1935 the youngest son of William and Gladys (Tiffany) Stoothoff. He spent his childhood in the Battle Creek area of Michigan. His brother Dick was his closest sibling and playmate.
Ron loved playing in the fields, streams, woods and lakes of Michigan. He especially enjoyed his time in the Boy Scouts, at Scout Camp in the summer and becoming an Eagle Scout. He went to Battle Creek Central High School where he met and later married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn J. McAllister. Ron graduated in 1953. Marilyn graduated in 1954 and they were later married on August, 1955. Marilyn shared Ron's love of the outdoors and they went camping whenever they could - even after the children began arriving.
After graduating from high school, Ron started to follow in the footsteps of his father and brothers, who were all engineers. He enrolled in General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan where 2 of his brothers had graduated before him. However, after a year or two, Ron decided that engineering was not for him and he transferred to the University of Michigan, majoring in Philosophy, achieving a Bachelors and Masters degree. He then taught Philosophy there and at different colleges and Universities in the Midwest. A position at Western Washington State College (now WWU) drew the family west to Washington, where they have lived ever since.
The most drastic change in his life came in 1973, when they began a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This was the beginning of giving his life to ministry and adding 6 more children to their family. Moving many times, Wauconda, Wilbur, Fruitland and Mabton, found him and his family as an important part of ministries devoted to helping others live Christ-filled lives.
Leaving ministry in 1990 to finish raising his family, they returned to Wilbur where he worked for Novotney's IGA and later for Jet Systems. He was enjoyed by all in this small community where they stayed until 2000 when everyone had finished school. Moving to Yakima brought them closer to most of their children, where he worked at Cub Crafters as long as he was able.
Dad loved to minister to others; studying the Bible and sharing his findings with a vast array of friends and family. He finally went to be with our Heavenly Father when they came to an agreement that Dad had done enough. We can envision them debating the issue as Dad saw one more way to share his faith with someone, another way that might help someone see what he knew to be the Truth, one more message to write down...
He is survived by his amazing wife Marilyn and children, Sharon (David) Morgan, David (Diane), Eric (Anne), Tom, Amanda (Chad) Roberts, Timothy (Toni), Michael, Peter, Catherine, Jennifer (Glenn) Shipley, "adopted daughter" Mo Arestegui, daughters-in-love, Mary, Mali & Sherrie. Grandchildren, Nicholas & Emily Morgan, Todd & Brian Stoothoff, Amy, Sam & Seth Stoothoff, Warren & Sydney Stoothoff, Alex & Zack Roberts, Tori, Trista and TJ Stoothoff, Sara Stoothoff, Daniel, Jonas, & Jacob Shipley as well as his brothers: Bill (Betty), Robert (Neni), Dick (Jeannette) & sister-in-love Eloise, many, nieces and nephews of whom Bob and John were close to us spending most of their lives in the Northwest.
He is preceded by: both parents, brother, Stan (Ruth) and sister Shirley (Marvin) Thalman.
We welcome you to join in our Celebration of Dad's life, Saturday, April 17th 3:00, at Valley Fellowship, 1701 W Nob Hill Blvd., Yakima, Washington.
