Linda M. Taylor
Linda Murlene Taylor passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2010 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born April 29, 1963 in Tulare, CA to Earl & Dalores Taylor, Linda sought to live a life of vitality and joy in order to impact the lives of others.
She spent much of her childhood moving between California and Washington as the family followed the picking seasons as a way of sustainability.
In 1980 she settled in the Yakima valley with her marriage to Bob Zink, finishing her high school education shortly thereafter at A.C. Davis High School in 1981.
In 1983, she had her only child, a son, Robert, whom she supported by often working two jobs while she attended college. Linda proved herself to be a diligent and hard-working individual by completing all levels of college at Heritage College, finally completing her education with her MEd in Counseling in 1992. During this time she married John Pickens and gained a new stepdaughter Ashley in 1991. After working in the counseling field for a number of years (primarily with Comprehensive Mental Health for five years) Linda started a private practice as a mental health counselor in Yakima. Following up on her educational desire to pursue her PhD in Forensic Psychology, she left private practice an moved to Visalia, CA. Although the program ended before she could finish her degree, Linda continued to work in the field of social work at various places including, Corcoran Prison, Tulare County, and most recently at Golden State Family Services.
She never let go of the happiness, fun, and tranquility she found in the outdoors, ceasing every opportunity she had to go rock climbing, camping in the mountains, or hiking along the trails enjoying the beauty of Gods creation. Finding joy through both the activities she enjoyed and the people she called friends, Linda moved back to Zillah in September of 2009 to be with family as she faced her toughest battle yet, after being diagnosed with metastic melanoma. She fought this battle with courage and dignity, being an example to her friends and family.
Linda was the kind of person you would want as a daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Giving her all to people, she made a difference in the lives of so many, whether it was through the sharing of a touching moment, a quick smile, or her advocacy on a persons behalf. Despite the difficult circumstances she faced in her heroic battle against cancer, Linda used this as her platform to continue touching the lives of each person she met ... her legacy lives on in those people.
Linda is loved and survived by her son Robert Zink Zillah; mother Dalores Taylor Yakima; Sister Liz (Johnny) Kennewick; Brother Ron Taylor Union Gap; Sister Deanna (Mike) Adams Zillah; Sister Laura (Joe) Johnston Union Gap; Brother Gary (Maxine) Taylor Lacey; former husband John Pickens Zillah and his daughter Ashley (Dan) Duvall; former husband Bob (Karen) Zink Union Gap; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Taylor and her grandparents.
The family would like to thank Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Memorial Hospital & Hospice Staff, North Star Lodge, Faith Community Church & Pastor Joe Kamphuis, Golden State Family Services, and Catholic Family & Child Service.
Is 40:31: 'but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.'
