Emma Struchtemeyer
Emma passed away May 4th, 2010 in Covenant House at the age of 96. She was born in Spokane, Washington December 25, 1913 to Phillip and Martha Mehrer. She and her husband farmed in the Wapato area until his death. Emma then moved to Yakima and worked at Memorial Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital until retiring at the age of 70.
Family and her friends were the most important in her long and busy life. Emma will be remembered by many friends and family for her gifts of homemade breads, cookies, candy, caramel corn, and popcorn balls at Christmas.
She is survived by a daughter, Edna Andreas and son-in-law John of Yakima; six grandchildren: Frances Fork (Bill), Lorena Stover (Henry), Gary Andreas, Jean Andreas, Robert Andreas, and Lee Andreas (Valorie); seven great-grandchildren: Thomas Stover, Cassandra Fritz, Aaron Stover, Amanda Hangge, Samantha Andreas, Lane Andreas and John Terry Andreas; and two great-great grandchildren, Kairi and Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Julius Struchtemeyer; parents, Phillip and Martha Mehrer; sister Minnie Fisher; three brothers, Otto, Albert and Arnold Mehrer; and grandson John Andreas Jr.
The family wishes to thank Cheryl and Del Miles for the loving care received at Izzy’s and Covenant House and all the wonderful caregivers during her last two years. Thank you to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice.
Visitation will be Friday May 14 from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima. Graveside services will be held on May 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Wapato Reservation Cemetery.
Lois Esther Zyph Middleton
GRANGER - Lois Esther Zyph Middleton passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 1, 2010 after a courageous four month battle with cancer.
Lois was born on December 18, 1933 to Ona and Esther Zyph. She lived in Granger most of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Don; son Don Jr. of Granger; three daughters, Diana Rick (Mike) of Damascus, Oregon, Donnetta Derrey (Mike) of Wapato, and Debbie Anderson (Randy) of Granger; six sisters, Margaret and Dorothy Belton, Mary Ford, Sharon Ranes, Shirley Newman, and Carol Levie; four brothers, Daniel, Joe, Jack, and Bill Zyph; nine grandchildren, Derrick (Rose), David (Kamran) Middleton, Mike Jr. (Lara), Shane and Christopher Rick, Mitchell and Molly Derrey, Jode Murphy (Quinn), and Amanda Anderson; four great grandchildren, Baylee, Jack and Makayla Middleton, and Emily Rick; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Joey.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Walsh, Yakima Memorial Home Health staff, Yakima Regional Hospice staff, and all her family and friends for their care and concern. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to a charity of your choice. At her request, there will be no viewing or services.
Bertha Merchant Waggener
Bertha Merchant Waggener, 93, passed away on June 20, 2010, at Garden Valley Manor Nursing Center, 8575 N. Granby Ave., Kansas City, MO where she had lived since March 2006.
She was born on October 19, 1916, in Mansfield, WA to John B. and Lena (Lee) Merchant. She married Harvey O. Waggener on October 12, 1935, in Chelan, WA where they lived until they moved to Seattle in 1942. They moved to the Yakima Valley in 1947 where they had a dairy farm in Zillah and later an orchard on Buena Heights. They moved to Toppenish in 1960, where she resided until moving to Kansas City, MO in 2003 to Garden Village Retirement Community to be near her daughter.
She was predeceased by her husband Harvey in 1997 and in 2007 by her son, Harvey L. "Bud" Waggener. One of thirteen children, Bertha is survived by a brother Robert Merchant of Crestview, FL; daughter Shirley (Walt) Pugsley of Lake Waukomis, MO; son Richard "Dick" (Susie) Waggener of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren Scott (Debie) and Ken (Sindie) Pugsley; April (Mike) Sauve; Mac (Priscilla), Ken (Gina), Marz, Tim, Hannah, Becky and David Waggener; Naomi (Jody) Rice; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 26 2010 from 12-2pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, Washington with the Service at 2pm. Interment will follow in the Zillah City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Arrangements are in care of Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah.
Lloyd E. Lamb
Lloyd E. Lamb, 74, of Yakima died Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Mr. Lamb was born in Jefferson, Texas, and moved to the Yakima Valley from Arkansas. He served in the armed forces. He was a Seventh-day Adventist Minister.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Anderson Lamb of Yakima; two sons, Lloyd Lamb of Kansas and Robert Lamb of Eatonville, Wash.; two daughters, Deborah Lamb of Grandview and Elizabeth Lamb of Enumclaw, Wash.; three brothers, Dale Lamb of Planewell, Mich., Duane Lamb of Dexter, N.M., and David Lamb of Palm Coast, Fla.; six grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Viewing will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at Yakima Seventh-day Adventist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial will be in Tahoma Cemetery. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory in Yakima.
Mary J. Goodhue
Mary J. Goodhue, 82, of Grandview died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Hillcrest Manor in Sunnyside.
Mrs. Goodhue was born in Long Beach, Calif. She was a school cook in California before moving to Grandview.
Survivors include a son, Gordon Fleener of Grandview; a daughter, Julie Fleener of Douglas City, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Sunnyside.
LeRoy F. Thierolf
LeRoy Francis Thierolf, 92, of Moxee died Sunday, June 20, 2010 in Yakima.
Mr. Thierolf was born in Cedar Creek, Neb., and served in the Army for 24 years, during World War II and Korea. He also worked as a mechanic at Burrows Tractor.
Survivors include two sons, Al Thierolf of Moxee and Norman Thierolf of Wichita Falls, Texas; a daughter, Susan Suits of Naches; two brothers, Bob Thierolf of Ocean City, Wash., and Fritz Thierolf of Yakima; a sister, Carol Littlefield of Yakima; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
Benjamin W. Haynes
Benjamin Walter Haynes, 79, of Yakima died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at his home. Mr. Haynes was born in Glencoe, Mo., and served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for The Boeing Co., the Country Store Shopping Center, M & M Metal Fabricating and as a janitor at Ahtanum Pioneer Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Haynes of Yakima; four daughters, Pamela Herbst and Pat Haynes of Yakima, Fredia Thompson and Lori McRae of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Leonard Haynes of Louisville, Ky.; four sisters, Jane Hardy of Tickfaw, La., Violet Andolina of Fairbanks, Alaska, Millie Lecocq of Valley Park, Mo., and Belle Brown of Bellevue, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ahtanum Pioneer Church. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
