Helen Wanda Dorais

Helen Wanda Dorais, 78, a longtime resident of Moxee, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2010. Helen was born in Toppenish, WA on July 28, 1931 to Stanislaw and Virgil Bogucki.

Helen graduated from Yakima High School in 1949. She married and had four children.

In her early years she enjoyed being a nurses aide on the maternity ward at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Yakima.

She married Emile Dorais on June 23, 1977 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee, WA. Following their marriage they made their home together in Moxee for 32 years. She was a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Dorais Weld-It Shop in Moxee.

Helen enjoyed gardening, crocheting and sewing. Her special talent was crocheting tablecloths for her family. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her husband, Emile Dorais of Moxee; a brother, Robert (Irene) Bogucki of Belton, MO; a son, Doug (Jan) Bliss of Portland, OR; two daughters, Sandy (Doug) Nalley of Kirkland and Susan Davis of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Alisa Hanson, Angela Davidson, Nick Bliss, Amber Abbott, Tessa Ray and Becky Statler; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael W. Bliss; her parents, Stanislaw and Virgil Bogucki; two sisters, Jean Gengler and Anna Foster; and two brothers, Joe Bogucki and Stanley Bogucki.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 23 from 1 until 6 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee. A viewing will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial to follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials are suggested to Holy Rosary Cemetery Foundation and may be left with funeral home staff at the time of services.

James E. Ackerman

Loving Husband, Dad, & Papa.......

James (Jim) Edward Ackerman was born January 29, 1933 in Riceville, Iowa: the son of Glen & Velma (Whistler) Ackerman.

Because of his love for his country he proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War and appreciated all who have served.

On September 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Atzen at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, Iowa.

He was baptized & confirmed in a Lutheran Church in LeRoy, Minnesota the following year.

After their marriage, Jim worked as a brick layer for many years, moving to Yakima, WA in 1964. Here is where Jim and Mary stayed to raise their family. He worked for Carrol High School and finally 23 years at K-Mart before retiring in 1995. Jim enjoyed golfing, wood cutting, was an avid sports fan for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and being surrounded by friends and family. Jim especially enjoyed volunteering at Peace Lutheran Church.

Jim passed away at the age of 77, on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife; four sons and one daughter. Brad (Rhonda) of Graham, WA, Joel of Yakima, WA, Jim (Daylene) of Selah, WA, Teresa (Mark) Shervey of Yakima, and Dave (Kristen) of Yakima. 15 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 2 sisters Eileen & Dorothy, and 1 brother John. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 25th - 11 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Selah, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Lower Valley Hospice.

John F. LaValla

John Frederick LaValla, 70, of Yakima died Friday. Mr. LaValla was born in Mason City, Wash., and served in the National Guard and then enlisted in the Army. He retired in April 2006 after 26 years as a chemical dependency counselor, mostly in the Seattle area.

Survivors include a daughter, Vonni Ann Marinan of Kingston, Wash.; two sisters, Lois Farmer of Tacoma and June Farnikoff of Kennewick; and his companion, Dorothy Dunn of Yakima.

At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Yvonne R. Roybal

Yvonne Renee Roybal, 71, of Yakima died Thursday.

Mrs. Roybal was born in Billings, Mont., and lived in Yakima for 64 years. She worked as a housekeeper.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry C. Roybal; two sons, Bruce Roybal and Cory Roybal, both of Yakima; two daughters, Debbie Scully of Yakima and Jodi Cupples of Lewiston, Idaho; a brother, Fred Mullins of Lacey, Wash.; two sisters, Linda St. Martin of Yakima and Karen Laffargue of Post Falls, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Central Lutheran Church, Yakima.

Burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Arlene Anna (Brown) Pool

Arlene Anna (Brown) Pool passed away on June 16, 2010 in Wapato, Washington. She was born to Harley and Anna (Sener) Brown in Wapato on January 5, 1921. She was active in ministerial endeavors in her early years. In 1940 she married Sam Besel in Hardin, Montana. They moved to Toppenish, Washington, where she did evangelistic work but mostly served as a homemaker. They had three children: Pat DeLapp, who passed away in 2007, Ron Besel (the only surviving child) and Barbara Parker who passed away in 1968. She later married Austin Pool of Lamont, WA and they enjoyed very happy years until Austin's death in 1982. She then moved a few times, to Yakima, Moxee and Selah. (Her driving 'skills' were soon known far and wide). She was known for her kindness and generosity to family and friends alike; she also showed generosity to churches of this area.

She was preceded in death by the two above-mentioned children, by her parents; brothers Harold, Elbert (Bill), Clare and Kenneth Brown, and by two sisters, Delma Craig and Lucille Lindquist.

She is survived by her son Ron Besel of Bremerton; one brother, Eldon Brown of Kent, WA; three sisters, Doris Dagget of Arizona, Alice Perin and Margaret Brown of Yakima; four grandchildren, Duke DeLapp of Arizona, Beth Parker of Bremerton, Robert Besel of Graham and Erina Nelson of Wasilla, Alaska; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends deepest thanks to the Emerald Care facility of Wapato for their wonderful love and compassion to her during these last years. Any honorariums may be given to them in her name.

There will be a family graveside service on Monday June 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at West Hills Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at Central Assembly of God Church in Yakima at 11:30 a.m. Our deepest thanks to all the relatives and friends for their love and support. God bless you all.

James Earl Patrick

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2010. Earl was born January 10, 1933 in Waynesboro, MS. Son of Ruthie Carney and Dewey Patrick and step-father, Angus Carney. Earl married Eunice Martin on January 21, 1950. Earl was a devoted Christian who enjoyed life and loved everyone. Earl enjoyed traveling, mountains, old cabins, camping, fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his beautiful wife, family and friends. Earl worked in theaters, vaudevilles, and other various jobs before his retirement from Del Monte as maintenance supervisor. He and his family moved to Selah in 1969. He and his wife raised four wonderful children. Earl and Eunice celebrated their 60th anniversary on January 21, 2010, and had renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary.

Earl is survived by the love of his life, Eunice Patrick, daughter Patty (Dan) Bowers, daughter Rita Whiteside, son, Aubrey Patrick and his fiance Beckie, and son, Rocky (Ella) Patrick. Six beautiful grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Close, Charlie Whiteside, Tommy (Rhonda) Patrick, Selena Reeves, Chris and Austin Bowers. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Pauline (Boyd) Brewer of MS and Lucille (Ron) Edwards of GA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and many friends.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Inez Thompson and Christine Dunn. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. Services will be Wednesday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. with Reverend Rocky Patrick officiating. Burial will be at West Hills Memorial Park following services.
