Gerald R. Purdy
Jerry Purdy, 49, of Zillah passed away July 17th 2010 at his home with his beloved wife at his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Toppenish, Washington December 8, 1960 to Geraldine and George Purdy.
Jerry attended Wapato High School and made many friends during that time. He loved the valley and had no desire to ever venture far from home. He loved the outdoors, and there was nothing better to him then spending the day in the hills cutting firewood, camping or riding motorcycles. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and if it was duck season you could find him on the river with his beloved chocolate lab Buster with his sons at his side. Jerry was a man you could count on. If he worked for you he gave a 110 percent, always on time, always there until the job was done. If he was your friend, you could count on him always being there, always keeping his word, never revealing a confidence, and being the first person to offer you a helping hand or playing a practical joke on you. He lived his life with honor, dignity, and a sense of what was right and wrong that guided everything he did, and he did not waver from this. He was a “Good Guy” in the truest sense of the word.
Jerry met the love of his life, Jerri McDaniel, in 1982 and they were married in 1985. They began their life together in Zillah where they had 3 sons together, Ty (17), Josh (11), and Brady (6). Jerry was a wonderful husband and best friend to his wife Jerri and truly put his wife before himself. He was thoughtful, loving, kind, and a day never passed that he didn’t say I love you. He was a devoted father who was honored to be a part of his children’s lives from changing diapers to attending cub scout meetings. If his children were involved in something he was there from t-ball to varsity sports. He attended every practice and game and was his sons’ greatest cheerleader and sideline coach. In everything he did he put his family first and was so proud of each of his sons and the fine young men they were becoming. His greatest sadness was knowing he would not be there to watch them grow up. He was a family man in the finest sense of the word.
He is survived by his wife Jerri, and his sons Ty, Josh and Brady of Zillah. His mother Geraldine Grove and Stepfather David Grove of Wapato. Brother Larry Purdy (Lisa) and sister Shannon Nowlin of Yakima. Nephews; Jon Purdy, Christopher & Chevy Nowlin, Mark McDaniel, Travis Cochran, Jered Garner, Anthony Armstrong, Terrell Cole and Juvenal Laios. Nieces; Crystal Armstrong, Erin Purdy, Nancy Reed, Lisa McDaniel, Jessica Garner, & Paige, Presley, and Gracee Cole.
He was preceded in death by his father George Purdy. Grandparents; Jerry and Gretchen Hendickson, Sam & Esther Myers, and Iley and Florence Purdy. Nephew Louie Wayne McDaniel III and numerous other family.
