Amogene Carole Schmidt
Amogene Carole Schmidt, 90, of Yakima died Friday, July 30 at Landmark Care Center. Mrs. Schmidt was born in Skedee, Okla. She and her husband started the O K Rubber Welders tire business.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeannie Cassatt of Yakima; four sisters, Maxine Brown of Prosser, Darlene Koch of Yakima, Charlotte Brown and Charmie Wieland of Auburn, Wash.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Wapato Community Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Victor Maling
Victor G. Maling, 72, passed away July 26, 2010 at his home in Sunnyside, WA surrounded by loved ones. Victor was born in Sunnyside, WA on December 6, 1937 to Jake and Genevie (Carpenter) Maling.
Victor was a life-long Sunnyside resident and attended Sunnyside High School. Victor was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958 serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a commercial fisherman in Alaska and was a licensed guide on the Columbia River. Vic was also a truck driver for Acme Construction working in construction until his retirement.
Victor was a long time friend of Bill W. and helped many others learn about Bill W. He was also an avid fisherman. Heading out in the morning to fish with Harry Martin was one of Victor’s joys.
Victor is survived by his nieces, Tammy (Douglas) Barnas, Cody Maling of Sunnyside and Kari (Mike) Shiner of Lake Tapps. He is also survived by Shirley Martin of Sunnyside, Terry and Kelly (Martin) Carter and Thomas Martin of Granger.
Viewing will be at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside on Thursday July 29 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 30 at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Valley Hospice or Roosevelt Elementary After School Science Program, Granger. Donations may be left at Valley Hills Funeral Home Sunnyside.
Valley Hills Funeral Home Sunnyside is entrusted with arrangements.
Kirk K. Kestner Jr.
Kirk Karl Kestner Jr., 28, of Mabton died Wednesday July 28, 2010 in the Yakima River. Mr. Kestner was born in Sunnyside and raised and educated in Mabton.
Survivors include his grandmother, Jean Kestner; his parents, Kirk Sr. and Shannin Kestner; and two sisters, Serena Rasmussen and Heather Kestner.
A celebration of life service will be held today, Thursday, August 5th at 1:30 PM at the home of Kirk great uncle, 1840 Sunnyside-Mabton Highway. A potluck will follow and the family asks to bring a chair if needed. For further information please contact the family at 508-830-4085.
Francis J. Carder-Eby
Francis Joan Carder-Eby, 71, of Selah died Saturday July 24, 2010 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Carder-Eby was born in Tonapah, Nev. She worked as a sorter in fruit warehouses.
Survivors include two sons, Shawn Eby of Selah and Delbert Eby Jr. of Salem, Ore.; a daughter, Trina M. Schauer of Union Gap; a brother, Bert Carder of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Carder-Eby's request, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima.
Vicki L. Kroger
Vicki Kroger, 57, of Yakima passed away on July 23rd, 2010 with her daughter and son in law at her side.
She was born on August 29, 1952 in Bremerton, WA to Daniel and Jean Dramer.
On December 17, 1993 she married Kevin Kroger. Together they operated Kevin's family farm until the time of Kevin's death in 2006. They loved animals and were known to adopt any dog in need of a home. She found comfort and companionship in her little dogs that lived with her after moving away from their farm.
Vicki graduated from Selah High School and Business College. She was very proud to have worked for Allan Brothers for about 20 years. She will be remembered as their "Director of First Impressions". Vicki felt much kindness and support from Allan Brothers owners and staff during her employment, even after illness and congestive heart failure forced her to stop working in 2007.
Vicki loved her grandkids Caleb and Courtney. She anticipated when they would be coming to visit because she loved talking with them and enjoyed making them giggle. She adored and was so proud of her daughter Sheala who was constantly by her side and son in law Brian. During the hardest of times he could always make her laugh.
She was so grateful for her "extended family," Gary, Wanda, Steve, Tracy, Cody and Tyler Johnson because some of her happiest times included them. Vicki looked forward to being a part of their family gatherings and the hugs that always welcomed her.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law Brian and Sheala Johnson; grandchildren Caleb and Courtney Johnson and siblings Wayne, John, Denise and Jeannie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and life-long friend Ray Gault.
At Vicki's request no formal services will be held. Private burial will be at the Naches Cemetery.
George W. Gray
George W. Gray, 83, of Yakima passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Apple Creek Adult Family Home.
George was born March 1, 1927 in Summit Arkansas to George Walter Gray and Mary Susan (Richardson) Gray. In 1945 while serving in the Army George married Lois Marie Black on December 20, 1945. The couple moved to Yakima in 1948. George attended Trade school through the GI bill studying Carpentry and Welding after which both he and his brother Robert launched careers in carpentry. George became a Member of the Carpenters Union and worked many years in the commercial building industry of Yakima. During his career as a carpenter he also built three homes of his own. He retired from carpentry in 1983 after which he and Lois spent many years enjoying time in the Cascades camping, hiking, and hunting. They also spent countless hours helping others and serving in the church. George and Lois were long time members of Gleed Valley Assembly of God and Stone Church of Yakima.
He is survived by two children, Joyce Walkup husband Ernest and Ken Gray and wife Kathy of Yakima; three grandchildren, Leslie Wheeler (Kyle), Erin Williams (Adam), and Jason Gray all of Yakima; two brothers, Carl Gray (Gertrude) of Festus MO and Jim Gray (Wanda) of Summit AR; a sister Sarah Guthrie (Herb) of Yakima; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois on October 20, 2008; an infant daughter Wanda Sue Gray; his parents Walter and Mary Gray; four brothers, William, Ben, Robert and Johnny; and two sisters, Martha Cooper and Esther Guthrie.
Viewing will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. A graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010 followed by a luncheon for Family and Friends at the Stone Church, 3303 Englewood Avenue in Yakima.
