Charles Richard Caldwell
Charles Richard Caldwell, 89, of Yakima died Thursday, July 22.
Mr. Caldwell was born in El Dorado, Kan., and served in the armed forces. He worked in maintenance in fruit warehouses and in the agricultural industry.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Caldwell of Yakima; a son, Ron Caldwell of Selah; a daughter, Donna Carlen of Fox Island, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
Samuel J. Clash
YAKIMA - Samuel J. Clash, 80, of Sunnyside passed away on July 20, 2010 at Yakima Regional Hospital. Samuel was born on October 3, 1929 in Cambridge, Maryland to Daniel and Mary (Banks) Clash.
Samuel attended Turner Station Elementary School and graduated from Bragg High School in 1947. After high school, Samuel enlisted in the United States Army and remained throughout the Korean War. He attended leadership school at Fort Dix New Jersey, and then he was assigned as a Drill Sgt. and infantry instructor at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Throughout Samuel's military service, from which he was Honorably Discharged after his tour in Vietnam, he attended artillery, missile, radar, and chemicals schools. He served in all positions including private to Sgt. Major and finally retiring as a 1st Sergeant E8 in October 1968.
On October 3, 1955 he married Dona S. Sears. Dona passed away in September 2007.
Samuel worked for the Washington State Civil Service and worked as a store manager for the Washington State Liquor Control Board, where he retired after 19 years and 8 months.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, and listening to spirituals. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Samuel is survived by his son, Philip Clash of Sunnyside; daughter, Vivian Clash of Sunnyside; grandchildren, Tomiko (Melissa) Clash of Richland, Kelly Clash of Olympia, Chantelle Amador-Clash and Taylor Amador-Clash both of Prosser; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Clash, Alexandria Rosario, Justice Rosario, Adriana Clash, Divyn Clash, and Timothy Clash; a brother, George (Gladys) Clash; two brothers-in-law, Harry Stokes and Ferdinand Sedwick; sister-in-law, Cecelia Clash; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be offered 4 PM - 8 PM on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 also at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
Larry McWhirter
Larry McWhirter, 81, of Yakima died Monday at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mr. McWhirter was born in Moffitt, Okla., and served in the armed forces. He worked in the grocery industry.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara McWhirter of Yakima; a son, Gary McWhirter of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Nancy Rodrigues and Carolyn Whitney of Yakima; a sister, Edwin Hooper of Hesperia, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima.
Iris Pitts
Iris Pitts, 88, passed away peacefully at home in Union, WA on July 18, 2010 where she had resided for a short period of time after moving from Yakima, her home of 43 years. Viewing will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. A memorial service will be at the Church of Christ located on 100 North 72nd Ave., Yakima, WA. Iris was born December 23, 1921 in Deberrie, AR to parents Charlie and Nina Moore. She grew up in Perryville, AR and graduated from Perryville High. She was baptized into Christ at age 14 and continued her walk with God for life. She was a member of the East Side Church of Christ for 43 years. In 1942, she met and married James V. Pitts, her husband of 53 years. James preceded her in death in 1996. In 1947, she and her family moved to California and she lived the rest of her life on the west coast.
Iris was first and foremost a mother. She raised her children in the church and taught all her children to love the Lord.
Iris had many interests and was very adventurous. Her hobbies included painting, quilting, gardening and crocheting. She loved to travel and had many opportunities to accompany family and friends on their adventures.
Iris was preceded in death by her daughter, Jimmy, and two brothers, Earnest Moore and Paul Dodson.
She is survived by sister, Nell Windle (Perryville, AR) and brother, Clyde Moore (Yuma, AZ). Daughter, Vickie and husband Jim Walther, granddaughter, Jamie Walther and husband, Randy Robert, great grandchildren, Collin and Miah Robert; granddaughter, Lisa and great grandson, Seth Ryan Walther, all of Yakima, WA. Daughter, Janett and husband, Wayne Souza of Union, WA; grandson, Eric and wife, Juanita Souza; great granddaughter, Alannah Furseth, all of Union WA; granddaughter, Janell Souza and great granddaughter, Kristina Bollman, both of Yakima, WA. Son, David and wife, Janice Pitts; grandson, Jason Pitts; son, Daniel and wife, Mindi Pitts; granddaughter, Danielle and husband, Rodger Crawford; great grandsons, Gavin and Jacob; grandchildren, Rebecca Pitts and Joshua Pitts, all of Yakima, WA. Daughter, Rebecca Pace and husband, Tom Morin; granddaughter Michelle Brshears; great grandson, Chance Day; grandson, James Pace, all of Yakima, WA.
Our mother will be missed greatly and was a shining light to all who knew her.
In life you were loved dearly - In death I love you still. In my heart you have a most special place that nobody can ever fill. It has broken my heart to lose you but you are not alone - for part of me has gone with you the day God moved you home to his mansion above.
Raul Madrigal
Raul Madrigal, 18, passed away on July 10, 2010 in Sunnyside, Washington. He was born to Blanca and Jose Madrigal in Michoacán, Mexico.
Raul is survived by four brothers: Jose, Manuel, Neopoldo and Salvador Madrigal all of Sunnyside, and by two sisters, Maricela Madrigal of Zillah and Selena Madrigal of Sunnyside.
Recitation of the Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, and Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday July 15, 2010 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with interment following at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
Adalberto Molina
Adalberto Molina, 85, of Granger died Saturday. Mr. Molina was born in Michoacán, Mexico. He was a farm laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Aurora Molina of Granger; five sons, Agustin Molina of Toppenish, Armando Molina of Granger, Alberto Molina and Trinidad Molina, both of Granger and Wuenceslado Molina of Mexico; two daughters, Bertha Alicia Molina and Graciela Molina, both of Federal Way, Wash.; and a sister, Isabel Molina of Michoacán.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger. Mass of Christian burial will be at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah.
