Wanda June Tilley
Wanda June Tilley of Zillah, WA passed away August 26, 2010 while surrounded by family. She was born February 13, 1932 in Fifty-six, Arkansas to Inez and Owen Clarence Sartin.
She was married to Jarrel D. Tilley October 5, 1949 in Mountain View, Arkansas, and blessed him with 14 wonderful mouths to feed. They came by train from Arkansas to Washington and lived in several places before settling in Zillah, WA where they lived for 46 years.
Wanda loved being a mother, farmer's wife and homemaker all her life and spending time with her family. Betty Crocker had nothing on her when it came to her homemade potato donuts, cinnamon rolls, fried chicken and must we mention her famous turkey dinner and her pies.
Some of the things she loved the most were taking long walks, gardening, camping, reading romance novels, embroidery, quilting, sewing and crossword puzzles. She swore by the National Enquirer and the Star Magazine. She loved classic shows and classic movies. She also enjoyed the "ever year" tradition of Zillah Community Days and preparing lunch for her entire family after the parade.
Another favorite pastime of hers was sledding down Rainier Avenue with her children and later with their children and their families/friends. She always made sure we had "gloves/socks" and hats to keep us warm as well as making sure we all had plenty of hot chocolate and marshmallows. She also loved to attend football games where you could always find at least one of her sons or grandsons playing on the team.
Most of all she loved spending time talking to her children, grandchildren, great grand children, friends and neighbors. Wanda never met a stranger and was kind and loving to everyone she met. To those who knew her as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, she will be greatly missed.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jarrel D. Tilley; father and mother, Owen and Inez Sartin; brother, Glen Sartin; sister, Hazel Sartin; son-in-law, James Ulricksen; and grandsons Kaylen Tilley and Logan Tilley.
