Michael Mullins
Michael Le Mullins, 56, of Yakima died Saturday, August 21. Mr. Mullins was born in Deer Park, Ohio. He worked as a concrete system technician.
Survivors include two daughters, Nicole Funk of Michigan and Kelsie Earls Masten of Florida; a half-sister, Pam Caroll of Ohio; and a brother, Mark Mullins of Lakeland, Fla.
Burial will take place in Plant City, Fla. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
William M. Burgard
William (Bill) Burgard, of Mabton, passed away on Saturday August 21, 2010 at his home.
Bill was born July 18, 1948 in Harvey, North Dakota to Mike and Gertrude Burgard. On June 19, 1982 he married Janet Bingham in Sunnyside, WA.
He is survived by his wife Janet; son David; daughters Jessica and Helen and two stepsons Robert (Kim) Gourneau, Mark (Christina) Gourneau, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Wendelin and wife, and his sister Stella.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill served in the Army and the National Guard combined for 21 years. He loved working on his children’s cars, drinking coffee and playing video games with his grandchildren, and loved being with his two dogs.
Viewing and visitation will be held on August 25, 2010 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m., with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. all at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
Cyrus H. Hamblen
Cyrus H. Hamblen, 95, of Mattawa died Friday, August 20 in Ellensburg.
Mr. Hamblen was born in St. John, Wash. He worked as paper machine oiler.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Motley of Burien, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.
Rodney Lee Mitchell
Rodney (Rod) L. Mitchell, 58, of Yakima, died on Saturday August 21, 2010. He had been fighting the battle with M.S. for fifteen years and colon cancer for seven years.
Rod was born on December 20, 1951 in Van Nuys, California to Cleveland and Barbara (Rogers) Mitchell. Rod was raised in Sunnyside on a farm milking cows. He went to school in the Lower Valley. As time went on Rod fell in love with Karen Wyatt and they were married on July 22, 1989, and they were married for 21 years.
Survivors include his wife Karen of Yakima; two daughters, Mary Chambers of Cheyenne, WY and Carrie Vick of Apopka, FL; one son, Rodney A. Mitchell of Texas; one stepson, T. J. Coggins of Concrete, WA; two sisters, Barbara Mason of Otis, OR and Karen Hatch of McMinnville OR; one brother, Tim Mitchell of Moses Lake, WA; ten grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and also all the students in Carpentry at Job Corps in White Swan, WA.
Rod had done a lot of odd jobs in his years of life until he became a member of Local Union 770 since 1981. Before retiring he worked out at Job Corps in White Swan as a Carpenter Instructor for ten years. One of the many, many jobs that he had done before retiring was installing the Playground Equipment at Ridgeview Elementary School. Things Rodney enjoyed doing included being with family and friends, watching football and NASCAR on T.V. and helping out with “Cast for Kids.”
He was preceded in death by his mom, dad, grandparents, two sisters and a nephew.
The family would like to give special thanks to Memorial Hospice and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
A celebration of his life will be held on September 11, 2010 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Local Union 770 Hall in Yakima.
Jeffery Allen Collins
Jeffery Allen Collins, 41, of Wapato died Thursday,, August 19. Mr. Collins was born in Yakima. He worked as a framer in the construction industry.
Survivors include his mother, Beverly Collins of Wapato; his wife, Lisa Collins of the Tri-Cities; two daughters, Kirsten Roche and Kristen Collins, both of Terrace Heights; and four sisters, Venita Tupy of Wapato and Sheila Lopez, Marilyn Matthew and Donna Roe, all of Yakima.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima.
Darwin Cooper
Darwin Cooper was born in the small town of Osborne, Kansas on January 6, 1931. His family came to the Yakima Valley in 1938.
He was a maintenance / floor guard for the roller rink in Union Gap while raising his four children. On March 20, 1983 he married JoAnne and they started a life of camping and traveling the U.S. He enjoyed selling cars and driving tow trucks.
He was preceded in death by his three sons, Jerry Cooper, Terry Cooper and Tommy Cooper and by a stepdaughter, Tamera Bena.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, JoAnne; daughter Debbie Green of Union Gap and grandson Jason; daughter-in-law Kathy (Jerry) and twin grandchildren Justin and Jeanine; daughter-in-law Digna (Terry) and two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle; one stepson, Brian Carter (Tracy) and two grandchildren Tyler and Courtney.
I would like to thank the group of people that he drank tea with most days at Orange Julius. Have a safe journey and I know there is a surprise waiting for you Big Guy!
At his request there will be no memorial or services.
