Mildred Dewhirst
ZILLAH - Mildred "Millie" died August 4, 2010, at her home in Zillah, WA, at the age of 94.
Millie was born on May 20, 1916, in Kingfisher County, OK, in a log cabin that her grandfather had staked a claim on in the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. She met and married Ralph "Ralphie" Dewhirst at Marshall, OK, on September 1, 1948. They moved with their children to Adams, IN, while Ralphie pursued schooling as a diesel mechanic. Then they moved to Zillah, WA, to join long time friends Roy and Betty Durand and Ralphie went to work for Webb Tractor in Yakima. They made their homes in Buena and Zillah areas.
Mildred, fondly known as "Millie," loved to be outside gardening. Her children thought she always had the prettiest yard around. You would find her out as early as 4:30 a.m. piddling in the garden and flower beds. When not working in her garden she was moving sprinklers in the city park across from her house. She took care of that park for the kids at the schools. She wanted a clean happy place for them to play. She moved sprinklers, helping out the city :), for 30 + years. It was her driving force and delight to keep it green!
As a young woman Millie loved to play softball and dance. She and Ralphie loved to dance together. She played pool for years, even playing on local teams. Later in life playing bingo became a full time job.
Millie loved her kids and family and delighted in all of the small details in their lives. You could call her on the phone and say "I'm driving through so and so town, some place in the U.S.A," and she would know a story about or had been there at some point, sometimes having hitchhiked through that area.
She worked hard as a young woman cooking in the wheat fields for Oklahoma harvest hands, baby-sitting full-time and cooking in restaurants in the areas around Marshall, OK, Adams, IN, and Toppenish, WA. Occasionally she made a really good tip as cook!
Her surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Joan Barnes of Granger, WA; daughter and son-in-law, Tobie and Jeanne Titsworth of Claremore, OK; and her daughter and son-in-law, Melodi and Kerri Naasz of Lolo, MT; her 6 grandchildren and spouses, Joy & Stuart Miles, Don & Valarie Barnes, Scottie & Lauri Titsworth, Stephanie & Scott Ingold, Casey Wesselius, Kate Naasz; her 9 great-grandchildren: Mitchel, Briana, Haleigh, Edie, Dorie and Eric, Ashley and Alexandra, and Keane, as well as many nieces and nephews, including her very special niece, Rhea Dewhirst Lunyou and husband Raymon. She had several close friends including Kitty Elder Wade, Etta Sheets, Zee Delp and June Gorman (deceased).
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Dewhirst of Zillah, WA; her father and mother, Charlie and Alice Overton of Marshall, OK; sisters, Frieda Kaufman of Moses Lake, WA; Vera Ramseyer of Vancouver, WA; Hazel Urquhart of Toppenish, WA; and her baby brother, who died when he was two years old in Greensburg, IN; nephews, Charles Ramseyer and Alvin Sample; and great nephew, Kaufman baby.
Please forgive us if wee left out names of someone very special to her.

Ina Lee Grenz
Ina Grenz was born in Randolph County, Arkansas on May 19, 1938 to Oran and Marie Holland. After her early education in Arkansas/Missouri, the family heard of work in agriculture here in the Valley. So the family, with friends, traveled to Washington State to work in the fields from cutting asparagus to picking fruit. They did this during 1951 and 1952 and in 1953 made the Valley a permanent home, settling in Zillah.
Ina started school as a 9th grader in Zillah. Her and Larry dated in high school and both graduated in 1957 from Zillah, Larry as president and Ina as vice-president of the class. They were married Nov. 27, 1959 and celebrated 50 years together last year. In 1961, Greg came along and in 1963 Doug followed. They moved to their current home in 1966. Ina worked at the bank in Toppenish until both boys were in school and then quit the bank to work at the school as a teacher's aide. After some years passed she moved up to secretary at the grade school. All told she was at the school for 31 years before retiring. She loved working for the school. After retiring her and Larry traveled to Alaska, Missouri, Tennessee, and Arkansas to visit family and friends. She also went crabbing and fishing on the coast and floating the Klickitat. She seemed to be able to do it all. She was the rock of the family and will be terribly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.E. and Marie Holland; brothers, Marshall and Delmar Holland; sister, Alma Overstreet; brother-in-law, Jack Overstreet; and grandson, Blaine Grenz.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Grenz; sons, Greg (Janine) Grenz and Doug (fiancee Kathy) Grenz all of Zillah; brother and sisters, W.C. (Charlene) Holland of Zillah, Vi (Ken) Kohagen of Yakima, and Carolyn (Craig) Lowery of Tampico; grandchildren, Steven (Eunju) Wingrove of Osan, South Korea, Cody Grenz of Yakima, Nathan Schilperoort of Yakima, Jordan Schilperoort of Yakima, Shelby Grenz, Lexie Wright, McKenzie Grenz, Ryan Grenz, Madison Grenz all of Zillah; great grandchild, Emma Wingrove of Osan, South Korea; and many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as other family members and close friends.

Frank Malgesini
YAKIMA - Frank E. Malgesini was called to tend a heavenly garden on August 2, 2010. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Frank was an amazing man and will remain forever in our hearts.
Frank was born in 1923 in Monroe, Washington to Giobbe Giovanni and Matilde (Salvadalena) Malgesini. From age 2 to 15 his family farmed in the Italian Alps. They returned to the U.S. prior to WW II.
Frank set his eyes on Betty Burke of Toppenish in 1946. It was love at first sight and they were married in 1947. Frank and Betty shared many great adventures together and with family and friends. Frank loved nothing more than being with his family. He was a life-long farmer and gardener who received immense satisfaction from raising cows and crops and caring for the land. He and Betty retired from 7-11 after 13 years as the original owners of the store located at 3rd Avenue and Nob Hill. Prior to that, Frank worked at J.C. Penney's for 18 years and farmed. In his retirement years he enjoyed taking care of his roses, working in the garden, dancing, playing golf at Fisher (several holes-in-one) and pinochle at the Yakima Senior Center. For many years he and Betty traveled to Arizona for the winter to enjoy the golf and then hurried back by the first of March to get the farm ready for another season. He lived 62 years in the Yakima valley, 44 of those years in Selah.
Besides Betty, his wife of 63 years, Frank is survived by five siblings, Alda, Lily, Don, Erasmo and Leno; four children Frank and Emma Malgesini, Julie Malgesini, Debby and Dave Johnson and Dennis and Renee Malgesini. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Kevin, Frankie, James, Kathryn, Angie and Katie, and six great-grandchildren Dakota, Gavin, Alyssa, Parker, Gabriel and Abigail. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John.
Frank was a rare combination of integrity, ingenuity and modesty. He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roger Bracchi and the staff of Living Care Retirement Community for the kindness and respect they showed in caring for Frank. A memorial service will be held at Memorial Bible Church at 100 Old Stage Way in Yakima on Monday, Aug. 9 at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Frank's name to Living Care Retirement Community, Memorial Bible Church or the Union Gospel Mission. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home.
