Dovie Esther George
YAKIMA - Dovie Esther George passed away peacefully at Living Care Nursing Center on December 12, 2008. She was born April 30, 1926 in Yakima, WA to Frank and Gertrude King. She lived most of her life in the Yakima and Kittitas Valley areas. She graduated from Central Washington College in 1948 with a teaching degree and taught several years in Hoquiam, Ellensburg, and West Valley. After teaching, she worked at Inland Fruit in the office in Wapato for many years. She and her husband did extensive traveling during the later years, i.e.: Africa (Egypt-Kenya), Australia and China.
Survivors include her husband Don, son Jeff (Antonia), grandchildren Sarah, Margaret, Erin and Jeffrey; daughter Susan and grandchild Demi. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Connie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights, with interment at Tahoma Cemetery.
Clifford Orr
Clifford Orr passed into his eternal place of peace and rest on Dec. 11, 2008 with his loving wife, Peggy, at his side. Cliff was born April 24, 1936 at Corning, New York to Clifford and Ella May Orr.
He is survived by two brothers: Merton Bacon of Pennsylvania and Philip Carr of Port Orchard, WA; Two sister: Linda McDaniels of North Carolina, Carol Middleton of Seattle, WA.; Four Sons: Doug Orr of Long Beach, CA; Jeff Orr of Port Orchard, WA; Joey and Jeremy Mooney both of Yakima, WA; Three Daughters: Carmen Orr of Long Beach, CA.; Jennifer Mooney and Darcey Richards both of Yakima, WA. With 10 Grandchildren and 3 Greatgrandchildren. Cliff is preceded in death by his parents and a son Clayton Orr and a sister Mary Nelson.
Cliff was a gentle giant of a man, standing 6'5" with a compassionate heart. He was a talented man with a love for nature, capturing it well in his gallery of beautiful landscapes. He was an accomplished artists with paintings displayed in various homes, always sharing them at the art exhibit at the Central Washington Fair. His love for the ocean led him to reside in West Port Washington for many years as a commercial fisherman and would return to vacation as often as possible.
He loved music and sang with a beautiful rich baretone voice. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Palarus where he passed thru the Korean straights, many times, while being fired upon. He retired from West Hills Memorial Garden as a heavy equipment operator.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16th at 1 P.M. at Breakthrough Christian Center located at 15 North 7th Ave. (Entrance at 602 West A SO).
Rev. John C. Gaub
Yakima - Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. John Gaub went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 at Cedar Hills with family & friends in attendance.
John was born May 2nd, 1914 in Hagen, ND. He grew up and married Millie Schulz in Greeley, CO on Nov. 20, 1934.
The couple moved to WA in 1937. John accepted Jesus as his Lord and Saviour shortly after moving to Yakima, and then attended Bethel Bible School in Seattle for four years. He was called into the ministry in 1942 and pastored several churches in Iowa and Oregon, as well as pastoring the Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Ellensburg for more than 20 years. After moving back to Yakima, he continued to contribute his time and support to the Calvary Rescue Mission and the Stone Church. He was a long-time board member and supporter of Ken Gaub Ministries of Yakima.
He was preceded in death by their son, Paul Gene Gaub on May 1, 1961, and his wife of 63 years, Millie Gaub on Feb. 2nd, 1998 and his 2nd wife, Helen Roettger-Gaub of Yakima, WA.
John is survived by sons Evangelist Ken Gaub and wife Barbara of Yakima, WA, Mike Gaub and wife Dee Dee of Yakima WA; daughters Shirley Ericson of Tucson, AZ, Carol McMurray of Tulsa, OK, Esther Ragan and husband Pat of Spokane, WA, Ruth Eaton and husband Gary of Porterville, CA, along with 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, a step-brother Gerald Bentz of Yakima, WA and a half-sister Hellen Nelson of Yakima, WA.
John was a member of the Stone Church and rejoiced in the fact that all of his children served the Lord. We will greatly miss his godly leadership, his heart for his family as well as his heart for the lost, his faithfulness, unsurpassed integrity, and his smile.
Viewing will be from 2:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 14th at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Terrace Heights, Yakima. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 15, 10:00am at the Stone Church, 3303 Englewood Ave., Yakima.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Union Gospel Mission or Calvary Rescue Mission in his name.
David B. Vibbert
David B. Vibbert, 74, of Yakima died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008.
Mr. Vibbert was born in Yakima and served in the Navy. He worked as an electrician.
Survivors include his wife, Heidi Vibbert of Yakima; two daughters, Davette Wakefield of Everett, Wash., and Carrie Vibbert of Wenatchee; a brother, Richard Vibbert; a sister, Donna Mansfield, both of Yakima; and two grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima, is in charge of arrangements.
Forrest Stewart Leigh
Forrest Stewart Leigh, 89, of Yakima, passed away on Tuesday December 9, 2008. He was born on September 9, 1919 in Cedar City, Utah, the son of Bernard and Idona Leigh.
Forrest attended Southern Utah College and worked for the Utah State Parks Department before joining the Army in March 1941. During WWII, as a part of Battery C of the 204th field artillery battalion in the 3rd Army, he went from Normandy, France into Germany.
On August 7, 1943, Forrest married Vivian L. Gibson in Tennessee, and moved to Yakima in 1948 to raise their family. After leaving the Army in 1945, Forrest worked as a carpenter before beginning his independent building contracting business, Leigh Construction. During his nearly 20 years as a contractor, he designed and built more than 2 dozen houses, duplexes and apartments around Yakima.
When he wasn’t working in his shop, Forrest enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and he square danced for 36 years.
Retirement in 1978 was the beginning of the snowbird life for Forrest and Vivian. For the next 20 years they spent summers in Yakima and winters in Mesa, Arizona,
Forrest is survived by his wife Vivian; his brothers George and Stewart; sisters Mary and Elaine; his sons Jeffrey Leigh (and Linda) of Yakima and Curtis Leigh (and Diane) of Olympia; five grandchildren, Cassandra, Justin (and Andrea), Steven, Andrea and Jeffrey; and one great-granddaughter, Frances. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Francell Marie.
A graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
Harvey S. Wolfe
WAPATO - Harvey S. Wolfe, 83, passed away at home December 8, 2008 with his family at his side in Wapato.
Harvey was born in the Toppenish area to Asa and Sara Wolfe; he was the youngest boy of the eleven children. He was close to his brother Ted and remained in contact with his little sisters; Betty, Trina, and Ruth.
Harvey served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 as a cook, stationed at Camp Irwin, CA. He met his wife Janice in California and they married in 1955. Their children Jesse and Kathy followed soon after. They returned to the Yakima Valley in 1957 to help with the family farm.
Harvey was raised to work hard and has worked tirelessly his entire life. He and Janice owned and operated the Lazy R Tavern in Harrah in the 1960's and Harvey's Crossroad Cafe in the 1970's. From the 1980's to date, he worked in his orchard growing delicious peaches, apricots, and cherries.
Harvey is survived by his wife; Janice, and son; Jesse (Clarissa) Wolfe, both of Wapato, daughter; Kathy Brownlee, of West Valley, grandsons; Justin Gaddis, Spencer and Evan Wolfe, and Chris Walker, sisters; Betty Pearson of Toppenish, Trina Fellows, of Homer, Alaska, and Ruth Rich of Union Gap, and numerous nieces and nephews. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Sara Wolfe, and his siblings; Mary, Buster, Herman, Dorothy, Donald, Thurley, and Ted.
At Harvey's request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lower Valley Hospice in care of Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. We'd like to thank Dr. Brady and the Hospice staff (Becki and Cheryl) for their care for our dad these last weeks.
