Maria Evanjelina Cortes
Maria Evanjelina Cortes, 73, of Toppenish died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006.
Mrs. Cortes was born in Zanches Roman, Zacatecas, Mexico. She raised her family in Mexico and moved to Toppenish in 1978. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include six sons, Salvador Cortes and Ramon Cortes, both of Toppenish, Tony Cortes of Zillah, and Victor Cortes, Gliserio Cortes and Isaac Cortes, all of Seattle; three brothers, Rutilio of San Bernardino, Calif., Maurilio of San Luis, Ariz., and Arturo of Upland, Calif.; 32 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Zillah Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish.

Velma (Basler) Cartano Barton
Velma (Basler) Cartano Barton, 88, of Wapato died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006.
Mrs. Barton was born in Ulysses, Kan., and had lived in Granger and Seattle for many years. After living in Corpus Christi, Texas, she returned to the Yakima Valley.
Survivors include four daughters, Anna Luper of Zillah, Jean Bellinger of Sunnyside, Arlene Seahorn of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Mary Jane Harris of Selah; a sister, Ruby Bledsoe of Bonney Lake, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation with graveside services will be held at a later date.
Chester "Bud" Turner
Chester "Bud" Turner, 85, of Selah died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006 at Selah Convalescent.
Mr. Turner was born in Yakima and served in the Army. He worked as a roofer in the construction industry.
Survivors include his godson, Michael George of Seattle.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Selah Church of the Nazarene.

Marvin Frydendall
YAKIMA - Marvin Frydendall, age 87, passed away at Heritage Grove Care Center on October 30, 2006.
Mr. Frydendall was born on May 13, 1919 in Portis, Kansas to Andrew and Christie Frydendall, and he graduated from Portis High School. He married Afton Ewer, served in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, and worked as a glazier.
He is survived by his daughter, Marlena Montaine of Portland, and by his nephew, Wylie Young (Virginia) of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Christie Frydendall, by his sister Juanita White, and by his wife, Afton Frydendall.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 on Friday at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima is in charge of arrangements. Send condolences to valleyhillsfh.com.
Billie G. Gleason
YAKIMA - Billie G. Gleason, 59, of Yakima, passed away, Saturday, October 28, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Billie was born August 21, 1947 in Toppenish to LaFay P. and Estella (Smith) Weaver. She attended school in Toppenish. She married David C. Gleason Sr. March 23, 1966 in Toppenish. Billie enjoyed drawing, cooking, dancing, singing and spending time with her family and loved ones. She was a member of the Sunrise Club in Yakima.
Her parents, a sister Annabella Kempton, and a brother LaFay P. Weaver Jr. precede her in death.
Survivors include her 4 children and Grandchildren Lorrie Gleason of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Tana and husband Shawn North, their children Shawn Jr., and Josh of Yakima; Sandra and husband Kevin Dierick, their children Erika, Stephen, Alecia, and Nicholas of Kenmore, Wa.; David and wife Cindy and their children Kayla, Jessika of Vancouver, Wa.; 4 sisters Clara J. Thompson of The Dalles, Or.; Theresa K. Anderson of Portland, Or.; Almeda Wilson of Sunnyside, Wa.; Estella D. and husband Eugene Van Treeck of Yakima.

Larry Martin Orton
Larry Martin Orton, 84, of Yakima died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 at his home.
He was born in South Sioux City, Neb., and lived in Arizona before moving to Yakima in 2001.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Larry Orton of Yankton, S.D.; a daughter, Michelle Orton of Yakima; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services.

Alvern Sloulin
Alvern Sloulin, 99, of Yakima, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at Apple Creek Adult Family Home.
Mr. Sloulin was born in Michigan, North Dakota.
Mr. Sloulin worked as a farmer.
He is survived by two sons, Gary & Wes Sloulin both of Yakima; a daughter Patsy Spino of Pismo Beach, CA; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
