Dolly Frances Pride Smith
YAKIMA - The Lord welcomed Dolly into his home on August 24, 2006. She was born in Sleeper, MO on January 30, 1914 to Adell and Mary Mills Pride. She traveled America following work with her parents and siblings and settled in Yakima, WA, where in 1932 she met and married Hiram E. Smith. Together, they had two children, Ralph Edward and Mary Eva. Her family and home were her greatest joy.
Dolly was a "green thumb gardener", forever trying to keep all the rabbits at bay. She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothing for her grandchildren and numerous quilts over the years for each family member as a keepsake from her. She was a wonderful cook; all will remember her tasty cookies and fresh applesauce. Dolly put a lot into family history. She kept perfect records and told stories of the older family and things she did as she grew up.
Dolly and Hiram shared fifty-three wonderful years together farming, raising purebred rabbits and chickens, and teaching children in 4-H. They grew raspberries and even grapes for Welch's, hiring the neighborhood kids so they could earn money for the fair. After Hiram retired, they enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping and fishing with the family.
Dolly is survived by son, Ralph E. (Dorie) Smith, and daughter, Mary E. Keith; brother and sister Orbia (Luella) Pride and Georgia (Edward) Smith; her grandchildren, Ed (Cindy), Sue (John), Patricia (Bob), Cindy (Randy), Bob (Sue), Dana, and Diane; great-grandchildren Trisha (Lance), Justin (Lisa), Trina (Joe), Martin, Lynae, Bradley (Amber), Lacey (Craig), Kelly Ann, David (Lindsay), Brian, Daryn, Tristin, McKayla, Julie, and Hallie; great-great granddaughters, Maggie, Annie, and Faith; and numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Mary Slabaugh and son, Joe, and neighbors. Preceding her in death is her husband, parents, brother, Ollie and wife, Della Pride, and son-in-law, Bill Keith.
Services for Dolly will be Monday, August 28, 2006 at 11 am at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane in Terrace Heights. Viewing will be on Sunday from 6 to 8 pm.
