Vernon R. Berg
Vernon R. Berg, 76, of Yakima died Friday, August 4, 2006 at Crescent Convalescent Center in Yakima.
He was born in Minnesota.
He served in the Air Force. He worked a variety of jobs while traveling in the United States and Europe.
Survivors include three sisters, Hilma Henry of Anacortes, Wash., Selma Hotinger of Maryland and Lenora Burke of Renton, Wash.
A memorial service is pending in Anacortes.
Pierre Edward Brown
Pierre Edward Brown, 76, of Yakima passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Pierre was born April 19, 1930 in Aberdeen, WA to Pierre R. & Mamie K. (Ronkinen) Brown. He graduated from Hoquiam High in 1948, then attended St. Martin College, Seattle University, the University of Utah, and the University of California Santa Clara.
He worked in the aerospace industry, being employed by Gaffer & Sattler, Gillfillan Brothers, Snohomish County, Everett Detoxification, Space General and Finally at Sundown M Ranch, where he began as a house manager and worked his way up to Executive Director. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Army.
Pierre’s work was his true passion. He was a member of the American College of Addiction Administrators, Alcoholism Professional Staff Society, and Alcoholics Anonymous with 34 years of sobriety.
Pierre loved camping, boating and cooking. He loved to travel, and sing with his family, especially singing love songs to his wife, Patty. Bernie, his cocker, was a great joy to him as were Baby and Bomber who stayed at his side. If you had a hand, he would take it in his and hold it. At night, in bed, he would take Patty’s hand, even in his sleep, or ruffle her hair.
He is survived by: his wife, Patty of Yakima; three sons, Dean Brown of Montclaire, CA, Robert Allen Baker of Everett and Eugene Monroe Brown of Selah; four daughters, Marcy K. Brown of Hawaii, Cindy K. Brown & Tamra Lea Rodriguez, both of Yakima, and Margaret Jacquelyn Spencer of Marysville; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine; his parents; and a step-father, Art Thompson.
Viewing will be held Monday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10 am. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home with interment to follow in Tahoma Cemetery. Donations are requested to Sundown M. Ranch to aid impoverished women’s recovery.
Glen Edward Cain
Glen Edward Cain, 69, of Yakima died Tuesday, August 2, 2006 at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.
Mr. Cain served in the Navy and worked as a truck driver until he became disabled.
Survivors include a son, Scott Cain of Yakima; a daughter, Cheryl Simmons of Naches; two sisters, Evelyn Doolin of Union Gap and Ruth Falconer of Winlock, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
There will be no formal services.
Pedro P. Sandoval Jr.
PROSSER - Pedro P. Sandoval Jr., 64, of Grandview, went to be with his Heavenly Father after a long illness on August 1, 2006 at Prosser Memorial Transitional and Long Term Care. Pedro was born in Texas to Pedro and Simona Sandoval.
Pedro married Rebecca Muniz in February of 1998. Pedro and Rebecca enjoyed traveling across the country in his semi truck. He was a professional long haul semi driver for many years. He was known as a prankster with his numerous nephews and nieces and he enjoyed a good barbecue.
He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Sandoval, brothers Fidel Sr. (Dominga) of Mattawa, WA, Felipe of Texas, Celestino and Jose Jesus (Gloria) of Wendell, ID, sisters Audelia S. Villanueva (Fidencio) of Grandview, WA and Emma Sandoval of Grandview, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Simona Sandoval and siblings Sulema, Guadalupe, Enedelia, Alejo, Eva, Alicia, San Juana and Jose Sandoval.
Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2nd and Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA. Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in Sunnyside, WA.
William S. Lewis
William S. Lewis, 75, passed away on July 31, 2008 in Yakima. He was born in Yakima on January 26, 1933 to Chester and Nora Lewis. Prior to retirement he worked as a truck driver.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter Nora Goodwater of Yakima; three sons, William L. Lewis of Walla Walla, Michael R. Lewis of Bonney Lake, WA and Douglas Lewis of Yakima; and by 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild
Graveside Memorial Services were held on Saturday, August 9 at 11:30 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park
Christian Hammer
Christian Hammer, 87, of Yakima died Wednesday July 30, 2008.
Mr. Hammer was born in Scotts Bluff, Wyo. He was a longtime resident to the Yakima area and worked as a journeyman carpenter for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold Hammer of Parker Heights, Wash., and Mervin Hammer of Wapato; and three daughters, Donna McJunkin of Federal Way, Wash., Carrol Storkel of Zillah and Gwen Pomerinke of Terrace Heights.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Zillah Cemetery.
Phyllis A. Brittain
Phyllis A. Brittain, 72, passed away on July 29, 2008 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 7, 1936 in Eureka, CA to Clarence and Audrea Lynn. She was employed as a cook.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters Gloria Harnden of Blue Lake, CA and Sherrae Winnte of Sacramento, CA, and by two grandchildren. There were no services at her request.
