Walter T. Aplanalp
Walter T. Aplanalp passed away at his ranch home on July 28, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Walt was born on April 26, 1940, in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in Garden Home, Oregon, where he attended school in Beaverton. He then attended Vancouver Community College where he graduated from their printing program. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Walt moved to Yakima in 1964 when he was hired at the Yakima Herald-Republic as a pressman. After a long successful career of 37 years he retired in 2002.
Walt loved life. He had many interests and friends. His interests included traveling to Mexico every winter, ranching, walking, hiking, biking, fishing, gardening, traveling, white water rafting, and collecting antiques.
His passion was his ranch. He built his home and enjoyed the time he spent there. Walt was a hard worker and a giving man. He was always willing to help a friend. or drive his granddaughters to school after missing the bus. He enjoyed gathering clothes for underprivileged children in Mexico
Walt is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his two daughters: Heidi Remley (Brian), Kimberly Aplanalp; three granddaughters: Nichole Davis, Jessica Remley, Danielle Remley; and one great grandson, Jaxon Briggs. Walt loved and valued his wife and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter T. and Elizabeth Aplanalp.
Walt's family would like to thank all staff at North Star Lodge for their wonderful and loving care.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1st, 2008, at Walt's ranch house.
Larry Jones
Larry K. Jones, 67, of Yakima died Friday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born in Yakima and served in the Air Force.
He worked as a contract painter.
Survivors include a son, Tod Jones of Selah; a daughter, Briana Richards of Meridian, Miss.; two sisters, LaJune Jones of Yakima and Sereta Walsh of Maple Valley, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima is in charge of arrangements.
Richard W. (Dick) Hanna
Richard W. (Dick) Hanna passed away peacefully at his home Feb 13th 2009. Born October 7th 1921 to Willard and Pearl Hanna in Freewater Oregon, his family moved to Selah, WA in 1926, where he attended Selah High School. He worked most of his life doing auto body repair and painting and as a diesel mechanic. He also worked as a professional photographer and pilot. Photography and airplanes remained lifelong loves for him and he continued to pursue both as hobbies throughout his life. He married Arlene W. Snyder, sweetheart and roller skating partner, in 1952. They were married 56 years and had 4 children. He joined the Marine Corps in 1942, serving in the South Pacific. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946 he continued his military service, joining the Marine Corps Reserves in 1952, followed with the Air force reserves until 1959. He was a member of (and primary cook for) the Selah Fire Dept from 1948 until 1986.
He is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Pearl Hanna, and granddaughter Carolynn Hanna.
He is survived by his wife Arlene Hanna of Selah, children David (Leslie) Hanna of Rigby Idaho, Gary (Jan) Hanna of Selah WA, Kathy (Kelly) McCay of Yakima WA, Scott (Deborah) Hanna of Selah WA, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He loved to talk and tell silly jokes, and above all he loved spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. At his request, there will be no service.
Ervy E. Hoyt
Ervy E. Hoyt, age 79 of Union Gap, WA passed away at Parkside Nursing Home Thursday morning, February 12, 2009.
Ervy was born in Eugene, Oregon on June 6, 1929 to George and Lula Hoyt. He was raised and educated in Toppenish, WA. Ervy was a heavy equipment operator and in his younger days, a now and then cowboy. As a young man he enjoyed entertaining his family playing the guitar with his friend, Orval Patnode.
Ervy was married to Irene Liebrecht on January 15, 1948 at the Lutheran Church in Toppenish.
He is survived by three sons, Ken Hoyt of Zillah, Orval Hoyt of Yakima, and Ervy (Babe) Hoyt (wife Erika) of Union Gap; his special friend Opal Heironimus; three grandchildren, Abbey Walruff, Andrew Hoyt and LeAnne Wolf (husband, Larry); two great-grandchildren, Jessie and Tyson Walruff; three loving nieces, Sharon and Janet Chase of Yakima, and Donna Jean Coonse of Prineville, OR; three nephews, Randy Hoyt of Union Gap, Jimmie Hoyt of Anchorage, AK and Ray Hoyt of Minden, NV; his sister-in-law, Betty Hoyt and many long time friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hoyt; his parents; three brothers, George, Vivian and Eddie; and his dear sister, Irene Chase.
The family sis grateful for the care provided to him by his doctor, Abner Preacher, the staff at memorial Hospital and the nurses at Parkside Nursing Home. At his request, no funeral service will be held.
Richard Joseph Growney
Richard Joseph Growney, 69, of Yakima, WA passed away Wednesday Feb. 11, 2009 surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
Richard was born in Newark, NJ on Nov. 13, 1939 and spent his youth there. Later he joined the U.S Air Force at the age of 17 where he obtained his GED. He soon found himself traveling the world as an aviation mechanic. He moved to the Bay Area in California where he continued to work on and around airplanes for 20 years. He moved to Yakima, WA in the late 80's where he spent his remaining years.
Richard was a Free Spirit. He always loved to laugh, and definitely loved to prank. He enjoyed reading, watching television, good conversation and "VEGAS BABY!" He was also known by close friends as a "SCI-FI FREAK!" He had a true love for food: salt, Mountain Dew, BLT's, cakes and pies, his Grandma's macaroni & cheese recipe, and always a real NY cheese burger. "Man that's good!"
Richard is survived by his sister Patricia C. Growney. He was preceded in death by his mother Alice D. Growney, his father Leonard S. Growney Sr., his brother Leonard S. Growney Jr., and beloved cat Hoppy.
Richard was always a kind, warm, giving, funny, "Old Man" and we will always treasure his memories.

We also give tribute to all family and friends who helped him through his struggles. Valley Hills Funeral Home's kind and sympathetic manner was greatly appreciated.
Francisca Ramirez Hernandez
Francisca Ramirez Hernandez, who would have turned 15 on Dec. 23, of Sunnyside was found dead Friday, Feb. 6, 2009.
She was born in Prosser. She attended Harrison Middle School.
Survivors include her father, Francisco Ramirez Hernandez of Mexico; her mother, Rafaela Hernandez of Sunnyside; two brothers, David Bravo and Luis Bravo of Sunnyside; and one sister, Maria Bravo of Sunnyside.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside. Burial will follow at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
