Robert Griffin
Robert Griffin, 88, of Grandview died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at Hillcrest Manor in Sunnyside.
Mr. Griffin was born in Sunnyside. He was a machinist and worked in the airline industry.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Griffin of Grandview; four sons, James Griffin of Mabton, Erin Griffin of California, Jonathan Griffin of Grandview and Michael Reed of Wisconsin; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sunnyside Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. A graveside funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

Fred U. Sainsbury
YAKIMA - Fred U. Sainsbury was born on October 18, 1926, in Rexburg Idaho to Ben and Annie (Carlson) Sainsbury. He came into this life a whooping 14 pounds.
Fred fought a courageous battle with cancer; he passed away at home December 12, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
He graduated in 1943 from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash., after graduation he enlisted in the Navy where he graduated from Basic Engineering School in Great Lakes, Ill. and Diesel and NTS. Diesel ( ADV ) Amphib Diesel in Richmond, Virginia. He served on the USS LST 874 Vessel. He was a World War II veteran, who received 4 honorable medals during the war.
After the War Fred met and married Wilma Louise Schademan, together they raised 5 children living in the Yakima area.
Fred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many church callings.
While Fred and Wilma were raising their young family, they enjoyed camping and traveling to many of the states visiting the Historic National Parks, and then later they traveled with his brother and sisters to Canada and Mexico.
Fred was an accomplished carpenter building many of the homes they lived in. He enjoyed farming, raising grapes, some peaches, hay and a huge vegetable garden.
One of his fondest memories was watching his grand kids and great grand kids swimming in their backyard pool. The last few months of his life he rebuilt a 40-year-old toy John Deere tractor for his great-grandson, Nathan.
Fred loved being with his family and telling and listening to stories while they were growing up.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 61 years in January, 5 children, Linda ( Ron ) Everts, Cliff ( Bonnie ) Sainsbury and Ben Sainsbury of Zillah, Mike ( Connie ) Sainsbury and Steve ( Paula ) Sainsbury of Yakima. 19; grand kids and 24 great grand kids; 2 brothers, Stanley Sainsbury of Sunnyside and Eldon of Las Vegas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandson Joshua; 5 brothers George, Orlin, Willard, Duvay, and Ken; 4 sisters Melva, Trilva, Norm and Zola.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday December 17, 2007 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. The Funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday December 18 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in Toppenish at Lincoln and North "A" street. Valley Hills Funeral Home, Zillah is entrusted with arrangements.
Melvin Ohlde
SUNNYSIDE - Melvin Ohlde, 90, a long time Sunnyside resident, passed away December 13, 2007 at Grandview Health Care in Grandview, WA. Melvin was born on March 16, 1917 in Snohomish, WA. to W.H. and Maria Ohlde and received his early education there.
On November 1, 1942, Melvin and Esther were joined in Marriage in Lemmon, SD. and they moved to Snohomish where they operated the family dairy until 1956 when they moved to Sunnyside, where they farmed for over 50 years. Being a farmer was not only Melvin's career, but was something he truely loved to do. His love of God's good earth knew no bounds. Family, Friends, and Sunday drives were some of the activities he enjoyed. He loved his animal friends, also. Melvin helped build the Calvary Lutheran Church and was always there to help fix things.
Melvin is survived by 4 sons, Lyle Ohlde of Sibley, OH., Norman Ohlde and friend Jean of Hillsboro, OR., Dale and Marilyn Ohlde of Raytown, MO., and Robert Ohlde and friend, Denice of Yakima, WA. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren, and many Nieces and Nephews. One sister-in-law also survives, Gertrude Larson of Lemmon, SD.
Viewing for Melvin Ohlde will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy, Diabetes Assn., ot the Cancer Fund and may be left with Valley Hills Staff at the time of Services. Arrangements are entrusted to Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
Leonard Benjamin Brooks
PROSSER - Leonard Benjamin Brooks of Grandview, entered into his eternal rest with family at his bedside at Prosser Memorial Hospital on Dec. 12, 2007. Leonard was born May 15,1928 to Edgar and Verna Henry Brooks. He was raised and educated in Grandview and Richland.
Leonard and Gwendolyn Porter were married June 18, 1948. He was a Certified Nuclear Reactor Supervisor at Hanford for 25 years. He was then employed by Safeway Brookside Division until retiring in 1992.
Leonard was so proud of his granddaughters, Sarah (Xavier) Valenzuela, Tiffany (Daniel) Cardenas, Tiana and Talia (Reggie) Anderson. He was devoted to his five great-grandsons, Makai, Amani, Ajoni, Xavier Jr. and Daniel Jr. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son John (Colleen) of Spanaway and daughter, Sandra (Everette) Labat of Grandview, brothers Harold and Kenneth (Mary) Brooks and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Frank,; and a sister, Joyce Robertson. His passion was building and his home and surrounding projects are all evidence of this. His hobbies included H Gauge Railroading and traveling to Europe and the Hawaiian Islands and included relaxing and fishing at their Cle Elum home at Lake Morel.
Viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima. Donations are suggested in his name to the Humane Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
Frederick Eugene Perdue
Frederick Eugene Perdue, 70, of Yakima died Tuesday.
Mr. Perdue was born in Marysville, Kan., and served in the Marine Corps. He was a supervisor at Boise Cascade.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Perdue of Yakima; a son, Michael Perdue of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Bill Perdue of Bellevue, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Perdue and Pat Coleman of Yakima; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no services.
Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, Yakima, is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Jane Ogg
Mary Jane Ogg, 85, of Naches died Tuesday.
Mrs. Ogg was born in White Earth, N.D. She lived in Auburn and Colville, Wash., before moving to Naches in 1989. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, David Ogg of Enumclaw, Wash., and Richard Ogg of Bruneau, Idaho; four daughters, Lynda Moore of Arlington, Wash., Mary Kay Fry and Kim Clark, both of Naches, and Sherry Lawson of Friday Harbor, Wash.; a sister, Leona Wheeloch of Stanley, N.D.; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Yakima Seventh-day Adventist Church, 507 N. 35th Ave.
