Juanita Faye Friedrich

Juanita Faye Friedrich, 96, of Selah died Sunday at Riverview Manor in Selah.

She was born in Benton County, Mo. She had lived in the Yakima Valley since 1935.

She was a homemaker and worked in canneries and warehouses until she was 75.

Survivors include her three sons, Wayne Friedrich of Zillah, Ray Friedrich of Selah and Dale Friedrich of Sulkum, Wash.; a daughter, Joyce Adams of Yakima; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zillah City Cemetery.

Violet I. Ford

YAKIMA – Violet I. Ford, 83, of Selah passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Shepherd’s Gate Adult Care Home.

Violet was born April 3, 1925 in Yellville, AR to Samuel Hugh and Lula Jane (Mears) Helms. She came to the Yakima Valley in 1941 where she met and married Marion “Dutch” Lee. Dutch passed away in 1988. Violet married Harley Ford in 1992.

Violet loved gardening, writing poetry and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play and laugh. She wrote poems and stories most of her life, and starting sending them in to be published after the age of 70. She received numerous plaques and trophies for her poems, showing all of us that you’re never too old to follow your dreams.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Yakima Chapel of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zillah City Cemetery. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Terrace Heights Baptist Church.

A special thank you to Hospice and Shepherd’s Gate for the special care they gave our mother.

Ronald Lee Merrill, Sr.

SUNNYSIDE – Ron Merrill, Sr., 69 of Sunnyside went home to his heavenly Father on Friday, April 25, 2008 with his family at his side.

Ron was born July 1, 1938 in Los Angeles, CA to Jack and Mary Ellen (Curry) Merrill. He graduated from high school in California, and then served in the Army National Guard for nine years.

He married Linda Durbin Sept. 27, 1969 in Las Vegas, NV and they made their home in Venice, CA. In 1974, they moved to Washington. Ron was a self-employed painting contractor.

Ron loved being with his grandchildren, enjoyed animals and treasured life and his family. He enjoyed spending time with friends and always joined the guys for morning coffee. He especially enjoyed his “buds” Bob Mattingley, Josh and Kenny Nelson. He enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycles, boating and camping.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda of Sunnyside; two sons, Ronald Lee Merrill Jr. and wife Sally of Kent, and William Robert Merrill of Sunnyside; two grandchildren, Brandy Lee and Ryan Stephen; two brothers, Bob Hardy of Illinois and Dennis Hardy of Hollywood, CA; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Debbie & Dennis Clark of Selah, Judy & Lyle Sylling of Zillah, and Bob and Karen Zink of Union Gap; his mother-in-law, Flora and husband Jim Downing of Yakima; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Sunnyside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his family to help with medical and final expenses. Valley Hills Funeral Home, Sunnyside, is in charge of arrangements.

James Rogers

James Rogers, 59, of Vancouver, Wash., died in Toppenish on Friday.

He was born in San Bernardino, Calif. He lived in the Portland/Vancouver area for the past 18 years and had a part-time residence in the Yakima Valley.

He worked as an accountant for several nonprofit companies.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Rogers; his father, Richard Rogers of Prineville, Ore.; his mother, JoAnn Stear of Zillah; a son, Michael Joel Rogers of Iowa; a daughter, Mariah Noele Rogers of Vancouver; two brothers, Gary Preston Rogers of Petrolia, Calif., and Steven Craig Rogers of Wenatchee; and two sisters, Valorie Jean Cole of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Virginia Lee Aguilar of Granger.

A memorial service will be held later.

Valley Hills Funeral Home of Zillah is in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte Garman

ZILLAH - Charlaotte Garman, 85, ofr Zillah passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. Charlotte was bornin Los Angeles, CA. She worked for IBM and lived in Zillah for the last 13 years.

Survivors include her huband, Harrison Garman of Zillah; a daughter, Cheryl Moe of Granger; and a brother Herbert Case of Hawaii. No formal services are scheduled.

Ernest Hubert Lauteren

ZILLAH - Ernest Hubert Lauteren, 88, of Zillah passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008.

Mr. Lauteren was born in Orland, CA. He served i WWII during the Battle of the Buldge and was awarded the Purple Heart. He lived in Ukiah, CA for 65 years and moved to Zillah in 2002. He enjoyed hunting and photography, and loved to read.

Survivors include his wife, Clora Lauteren of Zillah; a son, Herb Aluteren of Las Vegas, NV; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. No services are scheduled.

Arlene Thelma (Berg) Bair

In memory of Arlene Thelma (Berg) Bair who was called to her heavenly home on April 19, 2008 after celebrating her 92nd birthday at Cascade Vista Convalescent Center in Redmond, WA.

Arlene was born in Hodges, MT on April 18, 1916 to Anna and Swen Berg; baptized in Hodges and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Estherville, IA. Arlene attended elementary School in Hodges and graduated in 1934 from the Glendive High School, Glendive, MT. She achieved her teaching certificate in Billings and taught in the rural schools of Wibaux County.

Arlene’s joy in life came from her Lord, her family and her music. She served her church as organist, choir director and member.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bair; her son, Joseph Lee and her grandson, Eric Koss. She is survived by her sister Lucille Baumgardner in Wausau, WI.; her daughter Linda (Noel) Koss of Woodinville, WA; daughter Iris (John) Lamont of Polson, MT; daughter Bonnie Miller of Spokane Valley, WA, son Vernon Bair, Seattle, WA and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing at 11:00 a.m. for the family and close friends and an interment on Friday, April 25th at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 345 N 11th Street in Sunnyside, Washington. Arlene’s Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., May 10th, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sunnyside. Memorial contributions can be made to Riverview Retirement Center – Pastoral Care; 1801 E Upriver Drive; Spokane, WA 99207 or Lutheran World Relief, PO Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21298.
