Dale Dunbar
YAKIMA – Dale I. Dunbar passed away July 4, 2007 at the age of 88.
Dale ws born July 24, 1918 in Elwood, Nebraska. Well known for his high school football career, he was offered a scholarship to Nebraska University, but instead chose to marry the woman he loved, Vera Corder, in 1938. Together, they farmed in Nebraska before moving to Yakima in 1954, where Dale continued to farm.
The couple had five children, Nancy Bridges, Dennis Dunbar, Allen Dunbar, Vicki Ford and Brad Dunbar; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Grandpa was a very hard working man all of his life. He had hands of steel and a heart of gold. He irrigated, farmed and worked construction until retiring in 1986. During retirement, he worked his gardens, which he truly enjoyed. Grandpa could grow anything in those gardens, and he enjoyed working the soil and watching life spring forth.
In his younger years, Grandpa received First Class honors in the Scouts. In football, he had the fastest running record in the state. His greatest joy, though, was his family. His family was everything to Grandpa.
Memorial Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 10 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the home of his daughter, Nancy Bridges. Please call for directions, 966-9853 or 961-0705.
