Lois Hoon
Lois Irene (Smith) Hoon passed away on April 14, 2008. She was born on October 3, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida, and married the handsome young Naval Aviator Hal Hoon. They spent the next 62 years together traveling the country both in the service of the Navy and for personal pleasure. In the first 12 years of their marriage they spent Christmas in 11 different homes, in six different states, on both coasts of the country.
Life with Hal (Buck) Hoon was interesting; at various times Lois was a Military Officer’s wife, a Washington/Montana sheep rancher with Buck, and a partner in the bowling alley they owned in Puyallup, WA. Her most important job started on her 21st birthday with the birth of their first child. Since that day she has been a loving and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Lois is survived by her husband, Harold D. (Buck) Hoon, her two children, Keith (Peggy) Hoon of Puyallup, WA, and Michael (Kelly) Hoon of Yakima and her brother Norman Smith and sister Glenda Woodward, both of Florida. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Connie and her staff at Crescent Place; the Memorial Hospital staff; Yakima Regional Hospice; the kind and caring staff of Emerald Care, and especially Dr. Hill. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Oravetz
Our beloved Marjorie Oravetz, died peacefully Thursday morning, Sept. 27, 2007 at her home. Her family is so grateful that she believes in Jesus as her savior and is now in heaven. She was 76. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Marjorie was born in Salem, Oregon and spent most of her childhood growing up in Puyallup, WA. She and her two brothers loved growing up on a farm and enjoyed keeping the farm and household running while parents worked elsewhere. She learned to be a great cook while just a teenager. She was not a great athlete, but enjoyed skiing while in high school. After graduation from high school she proceeded to get her registered nursing degree and license from Tacoma General. While in school she met and later married Harry Oravetz from Curtis, WA on December 15th, 1951.
Just after they were married, they went to East Saint Louis for Harry to get his degree in Aeronautical Engineering. While there, they struggled to make ends meet, and Marjorie worked as a nurse full time to put Harry through college. We remember many stories about eating “Bean Soup”. After Harry graduated from college they moved back to Seattle to start their family and John, their first son was soon born in January 1955.
Marjorie became a full time mother and gave up her career in nursing to raise her two sons. Steve, her second son came along two years after John. They continued to live in the Seattle area until 1960 when they moved to Ephrata, WA for work reasons. In 1962 they moved to San Jose, CA where they stayed until 1983, then they moved to Vacaville CA. Then in 1999 they moved to Yakima to be closer to her sons and grandchildren who live there. Her husband Harry and son John and his family still reside in Yakima. Her son Steve and his family live in Missoula, MT. Marjorie has five grandchildren, Amy, Daniel, Logan, Benjamin, and Jessica.
Marjorie loved to read books of all kinds. She loved her yard where she grew rhododendrons, roses, and vegetables. Marjorie enjoyed entertaining close friends with her wonderful meals. She was fond of travel, however her trips to Europe and Israel were highlights in her life. Marjorie enjoyed shopping and looking for the best bargains and giving gifts to others. She managed the household quite well, keeping up with day to day activities as well as investments and managing apartments for many years. She wrote many letters to everyone, and especially enjoyed receiving letters and cards, too.
Her memorial service will be held at Westside Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending their services. A light lunch will be served after the memorial service. Donation may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 6901 Summitview Ave. Yakima, WA 98908.
