SYLVIA J. JONES

Sylvia J. Jones, 73 years of age, died June 14, 1998.
She was born
in Huron, S.D., and had been a 43-year resident of Pierce County.
Sylvia retired in 1975 as a medical ward clerk at Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her interests included camping, fishing, traveling, assorted crafts and especially the family pastime, genealogy.
Survivors include Floyd, her beloved husband of 37 years; children Joan S. May, Carolyn J. Yerbury, Michael E. Chilson, John E. Chilson, Tina L. Jones and Gail A. Robbins; siblings Eleanor Sawina, Elsmer Fisher, Dave Fisher, Darlene Petersen and Shirley Eddy; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel Fisher; her parents, Truman and Gladys Fisher; a son-in-law, Earl R. May; and grandson, Joseph Hardwick.

PATSY C. KIMPEL
Chelan
Patsy C. Kimpel, 68, a 44-year resident of the Lake Chelan area, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Regency Manor Convalescent Center.
She was born
Oct. 27, 1929, at New Haven, Ind., the daughter of Noah and Florence (Schaaf) Lehmer. She attended schools there.
On Feb. 12, 1949, she was married
to Martin Kimpel at Kendallville, Ind. They moved to Manson in 1954.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 4, 1979.
For a few years she had been seasonally employed in the fruit industry. She was a member of the Lake Chelan Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son, Terry Kimpel of Troutdale, Ore.; her daughter, Debbie Morgan of Hillsboro, Mo.; her mother, Florence Lehmer of Chelan; two brothers, Gene Lehmer of Portland, Ore., and Darwin Lehmer of Independence, Calif.; three sisters, Joyce Ownbey of Big Pine, Calif., Elaine Gynther of Sandy, Ore., and Arlene Moore of Forest Grove, Ore.; two grandchildren, Herman Ray Morgan II of Hillsboro, Mo., and Amy Lin Morgan of Festus, Mo. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her father.
Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
KEITH F. MILLS
Wenatchee
Keith F. Mills, 61, beloved husband and cherished father, entered into rest on Saturday, June 13, 1998.
He was born
to Mark and Ellen Mills on Oct. 9, 1936, in Wenatchee, where he was raised and educated. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1954.
As a young man he served in the National Guard and was trained as a ranger.
He married
Wanda Walker Foreman on May 28, 1965, in East Wenatchee. He and his family made the Wenatchee Valley and Washington their home for most of his life.
He was a truck driver for 40 years and an orchardist for 20 years.
He enjoyed working with his hands in gardening, especially roses, and also carpentry, including building and refinishing furniture. Mr. Mills and his wife's home is a reflection of his craftsmanship. He was also a skilled mechanic, plumber and electrician.
He was always there, willing to lend a helping hand and treated others as he wished to be treated. He always tried to live his life fashioned after our Lord's example.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Wanda, of the home; and children, Mike Mills of Wenatchee, Shelli Hallam of Okanogan, and Greg Mills of Leavenworth; six grandchildren; and loving mother-in-law, Ethel Walker of East Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Joshua Keith Mills.

ERIC D. PETERSON
Moses Lake
Eric D. Peterson, 92, member of a Grant County pioneer family and longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Monday, June 15, 1998, at SunRise Care and Rehab in Moses Lake.
Eric was born
Aug. 16, 1905, in Greenwood, B.C., Canada, son of Charles E. and Anna Caroline (Olson) Peterson. In 1912 the family moved to Grant Orchards, a small community near Soap Lake, where they had purchased land to develop an orchard. They cleared the land of sage brush and hand-dug a 90-foot well for water. Eric attended elementary school at Grant Orchards and then completed his education in Ephrata, graduating from Ephrata High School in 1925.
He worked with his father as a hod carrier and brick layer for several years and several projects, including the Bell Hotel in Ephrata. He later moved to Neppel to start an orchard in the Peninsula area.
He was married
to Catherine Ann Leland on Dec. 22, 1933, in Ellensburg. They had built their house on Eric's land. In September of 1938, when Neppel was incorporated as Moses Lake, Eric was elected the town's first mayor. He served as mayor of Moses Lake until 1945 when C.M. McCosh took over.
Eric served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he and Catherine built a new home on Crestview Drive, where they had lived since. Over the years, they continued to develop the Crestview area. He operated his own real estate and insurance business and owned and developed much of the area in and around Moses Lake. He was also one of the founders and directors of two banks in Moses Lake, Central Washington Bank, which is now U.S. Bank, and Eastern Washington Bank, which is now Washington Trust Bank.
He was a member of the Moses Lake First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Moses Lake Lions Club, former member of the Moses Lake Rotary Club, longtime member of the Silver Sage Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Moses Lake Masonic Lodge No. 174 F&AM, and had donated the land the Masonic Temple was built on, member of the Moses Lake Gun Club, where he was a champion trap shooter, Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce and American Legion.
In 1987, Eric and Catherine were honored by the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce as "Citizens of the Year," and were commended for their "unselfish dedication" to the Moses Lake area. He served as a Grant County PUD commissioner from December of 1959 until the end of 1982.
Eric was preceded in death by Catherine in 1990, and by four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by several nephews and nieces, including Larry and Lorrayne Peterson, Moses Lake, Paris and Ruth Kazee, Fredericksburg, Va., Dick and Lois Yale, Greenboro, N.H., and Deanna and John Killian, Seattle.

JOHN ROBERT 'BOB' ROSS
Seattle
John Robert "Bob" Ross, 90, of Seattle, formerly of Wenatchee, passed away June 13, 1998, in Seattle.
He was born
Aug. 8, 1907, in Wenatchee. The Ross family was a founding family of Wenatchee. Bob was a longtime Wenatchee resident, moving to Seattle in 1996.
Bob retired from the Department of Transportation in 1973. He and his wife, Helen, had been active league bowlers.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Peggy Preston of Seattle, Patricia Chassereau of Seattle, and Kathleen Geiger of Tacoma; his son, John Ross Jr., of Keaau, Hawaii; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Archer Ross; his parents, John David and Martha Jane Ross; his sisters, Isabel Jackson, Martha Holschen and Irene Mortiz; and his brother, George Ross.
Services are under the care of Betts Funeral Service, Wenatchee.
RAY C. SCHILLING
Kennewick
Ray C. Schilling, 85, of Kennewick, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 1998, at the Kennewick Life Care Center.
Ray was born
on Jan. 30, 1913, in Mansfield, to Carl and Alice Schilling, a pioneering family on a wheat farm. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1932 with honors and as salutatorian, and then went on to school where he studied diesel mechanics for three years.
Ray was a grand master Mason in the Masonic Temple in Mansfield, a 60-year member of the Mansfield Grange and a Shriner for 50 years. Ray Schilling was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who entered his presence. He enjoyed the Seattle Mariners, working in the lodge with members, visits from friends and family, and most of all, the company of his beloved wife as they traveled the world.
Ray is survived by his wife of 37 years, Henrietta; his daughter, Susan Hulburt; son-in-law, Roy; his two granddaughters, Debra Jones and husband Robert, and Cheryl Hulburt and fiance Jeremy Gillespie; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Derrick, Mikaela and Nicole, all of Kennewick; nieces and nephews Vicky and Ross McCormick of Spokane, Steve McCormick of Wenatchee, Nick and Gay Drenski of Yuma, Ariz., Loren and Maralyn Clark of Bellevue, and Glen Schilling of Seattle; and many other nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Schilling; and brothers Verl Schilling and Percy Clark and wife Ann.
JOSEPHINE G. MANGOLD
Mercer Island
Josephine G. Mangold, 87, a current resident of Mercer Island and former longtime Wenatchee area resident, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998 at the Monte Adult Family Home of Mercer Island.
She was born
on Nov. 27, 1911 at Richmond, IN to George and Hermina Maurer. She grew up and received her early education in Indiana. On May 18, 1930 she married
Paul Edward Mangold in Richmond and together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.
The couple moved to Wenatchee in the 1930s and they owned and operated Mangold Brothers orchard of north Wenatchee. They also owned property in the Lake Chelan area.
Mrs. Mangold was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was an accomplished pianist and played for several social events that were held at the Island House Retirement Center in Mercer Island.
Survivors include her two daughters, Paula Gaston of Mercer Island and Patricia Stellas of Seattle; her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Paul in 1994, by two brothers and by four sisters.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 3, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Wenatchee with concluding services at the Wenatchee City Cemetery. Father Tom Kuykendall will serve as Celebrant.
If desired, memorials may be made in Mrs. Mangold's name to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Wenatchee.

LOWELL DOUGLAS MORICAL
Gig Harbor
Lowell D. Morical, 63, of Gig Harbor, former resident of the Entiat Valley, died Sunday, Nov. 29th at his home in Gig Harbor.
He was born
on May 8, 1935 to Sam and Iris (Cooke) Morical in Wenatchee at St. Anthony's Hospital. The family lived on various apple ranches and farms in Eastern Washington and Lowell received his early education in Chelan, Omak, Brewster and Colville, then graduated from Entiat High School in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in several U.S. locations and in Korea from 1954-57. He returned to North Central Washington and married
Judith Plughoff of Wenatchee on Sept. 21, 1958. Lowell attended the University of Washington and received a degree in mathematics in 1961. He worked with several aerospace companies including Autonetics, T.R.W., Computer Sciences Corporation and Boeing Computer Systems before retiring in 1994. The Morical family lived in Los Angeles, Huntsville, Alabama and the Seattle area during his career.
Lowell was a skilled Systems Engineer and worked on various important projects for the Boeing Company and others. He also possessed a number of artistic skills, and his hobbies included stamp collecting, classic cars, carpentry and sculpture.
Lowell is survived by his wife Judy and daughter Erin of Kent, son, David of Seattle, his mother, Iris of East Wenatchee and two brothers, Steve of Eugene, OR, and Nick of Spokane. He was preceded in death by his father, Sam E. Morical, in July 1995.
Commemoration services will be Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with the Rev. Jay Caron officiating. The interment
will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Morical's name to Seattle Union Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 202, Seattle, WA 98111-0202 or N.W. Harvest, 711 Cherry St., Seattle, WA 98111.

JOHN FREDERICK MOTZKUS
Okanogan
John Frederick Motzkus, a resident of Valley Care Center, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998 at a Spokane Hospital.
He was born
Nov. 16, 1909 in Callie County, KS to August and Ella (McGinnis) Motzkus. As a small child the family moved to a farm near Darlington, MO where he grew up. Because of his father's death, he dropped out of school in the eighth grade to help support his mother and siblings.
He married
Lucy Belle Plymale on Oct. 29, 1934 in Missouri. They moved to Dixon, MT, then after a year settling in Wenatchee. In Wenatchee, he worked as a carpenter and in the fruit industry. In 1941 they moved to the coast where he managed an oyster plant during W.W. II.
In 1945 they moved to the Methow Valley near Mazama where he farmed and worked in local saw mills. In 1962 they moved back to the Wenatchee area where he owned and operated first a cherry orchard, then an apple orchard. He also managed a cherry orchard for many years for Lee Stout.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a member of the East Wenatchee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife in July of 1987. Also preceding him in death were three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann and her husband, Vernon Bame of Twisp; a daughter, Betty and her husband, Ed Hubler of Aberdeen; a son, Gary Plymale and his wife, Dorothy of Wenatchee; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Twisp with the Reverend John Smith officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998 at Precht's Methow Valley Chapel from the hours of 10 a.m. until noon. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.

HELEN E. PATRICK
Wenatchee
Helen E. Patrick, of Wenatchee, and a former longtime resident of East Wenatchee, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 1998 in Central Washington Hospital.
She was born
to Edward and Vieva (Dunn) Byrne, at Edgley, ND where she was raised and educated.
She moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1937 and made her residence in East Wenatchee.
Helen met and married
J.C. "Pat" Patrick on Nov. 12, 1941 at Wenatchee and they continued residing in East Wenatchee.
She devoted her life to raising her family until 1955 when she began working in the fruit industry, working for Wenoka and Northern Fruit.
Helen loved her garden and flowers and doing crossword puzzles. She had a large collection of stuffed bears which she enjoyed. She was a big sports fan having a love for the Seahawks and Mariners. She especially had a love for her four grandchildren.
Survivors include her son Robert L. (Georgia) of Lacey; two daughters, Nancy (Bill) Lawrence of East Wenatchee; Shirley Patrick of Spokane; one brother Ed (Billie) Byrne of Ephrata; her four grandchildren, Christine (Roland) Lopez of Lacey; Bill Lawrence of Spokane; Rob Patrick of Olympia; and Julie Lawrence of Truckee, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998 at Telford's Chapel of the Valley with Fr. Seamus Kerr officiating. The casket will remain closed at all times and services will conclude at the funeral home.
Private burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society or to the Alpine Boys Ranch.

ELSIE LUCILLE WILLS

Elsie Lucille Wills, 78, a resident of Seattle for many years, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998 in Seattle after an extended illness. She was born
Sept. 5, 1920 in Idaho Falls, ID to John A. and Elsie D. Zitting. She was the second of seven children. She married
Roland C. Wills, June 20, 1947. They made their first home in Seattle, living in Longview and Yakima, returning to Seattle in 1972. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in the Relief Society presidency and Young Women's presidency of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Merrill of Bartlett, TN, Janet Clayton of Toppenish, Angie Gardner of Grovertown, IN, and one son, Alan Dale Wills of Mesa, AZ. 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Betty L. Fosse of Yakima, and four brothers: John A Zitting, Jr., G. Fred Zitting and Carl E. Zitting, all of Wenatchee, and H. LeRoy of Logan, UT. A time of visitation will be Wednesday, 9 a.m. till 8 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. till 10 a.m. at the Acacia Funeral Home, 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle. A graveside service will be Thursday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Acacia Memorial Park.
Barbara Wetherald Belfrey, 85, of Wenatchee, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Portland, Ore.
She had lived in Wenatchee for 24 years and had been a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Belfrey; and a brother Calvin Wetherald.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Riverview Cemetery, 300 S.W. Taylor Ferry Road, Portland, Ore., 97219.
Josephine Mangold
Josephine Mangold, 87, of Mercer Island, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at the Monte Adult Family Home of Mercer Island.
She had lived on Mercer Island for six years, moving there from Wenatchee, where she had lived since the 1930s. She and her husband owned and operated Mangold Brothers Orchard north of Wenatchee and had owned property in the Lake Chelan area.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Gaston of Mercer Island, and Patricia Stellas of Seattle.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee, with concluding services at Wenatchee City Cemetery, Father Tom Kuykendall celebrant.

Lowell D. Morical
Lowell D. Morical, 63, of Gig Harbor, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at Gig Harbor.

John Frederick Motzkus
John Frederick Motzkus, 89, of Okanogan, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, at a Spokane hospital.
He moved to Wenatchee in the mid-1930s, and worked as a carpenter and in the fruit industry. He later moved near Mazama, where he farmed and worked in sawmills. He returned to Wenatchee in 1962, where he owned and operated orchards and managed an orchard for Lee Stout for many years.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Bame of Twisp, and Betty Hubler of Aberdeen; and a son, Gary Plymale of Wenatchee.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Twisp, the Rev. John Smith officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Precht's Methow Valley Chapel.

Helen E. Patrick
Helen E. Patrick, of Wenatchee, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Central Washington Hospital.
She had lived in East Wenatchee for many years before moving to Wenatchee a year ago. She had been a supervisor in fruit warehouses.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. of Lacey; two daughters, Nancy Lawrence of East Wenatchee and Shirley Patrick of Spokane; and a brother, Ed Byrne of Ephrata.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Telford's Chapel of the Valley.
Services will conclude at the funeral home. Private burial services will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
