Bettie M. Paddock
Age 81, of Tacoma, died May 8, 2000. She was born
December 7, 1918 in Denver, Colorado. Shespent her early life in Casper, Wyoming and moved to Sumner in 1927, graduating from Sumner High School in 1936. She attended Pacific Lutheran University and moved to Fife in 1942. She was a member of Sumner Christian Church and later Fife Presbyterian Church, Henry Sicade Orthopedic Guild, Fife PTA, Tacoma Girl Scouts Council for over 25 years, Sweet Adeline's for 12 years, youngest girl to achieve the Golden Eaglet Award in 1930 and received the award from President Hoover's wife. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters and her son. Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bill, in 1992, and grandson Michael Scott. She will be missed by her daughters, Nancy L. (Richard) Chase of Auburn and Janet L. Edwards of Kent, her son, Donald S. Paddock of Fife, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by devoted, lifetime friends Gloria and Frank Gustafson and Virginia and Glen Olmstead, and close family friend, Donald F. Mansfield. No services at her request. Memorial contributions may be made to Totem Girl Scouts Council. Arrangements in the care of Powers Sumner-Voiles Chapel. Chester Nagle
Age 94, born
Oct. 7, 1905, made a peaceful passing on May 4, 2000 at 8 p.m. He is survived by his loving wife Mildred, and a host of nieces and nephews. Chet, as his wife refers to him, was a journeyman electrician. He worked on the Narrows Bridge during its construction. Chet and Mildred were married
for 63 wonderful years. They both loved the outdoors and did alot of travel along the coast of Washington, Oregon and California in their travel trailer during the retirement years. Chet's final wish was that there be no funeral service. Chet will be cremated at Mt. View Cemetery
and his final resting place will be the rose garden, where he will enjoy the great outdoors. For my loving husband, Mildred Nagle.

on November 6, 1942. I loved her then, and will always love her. Pat was born
to Charles and Amalia (Baumbach) Howard in Tacoma, WA. Survivors include her husband, Robert; her children, Molly Tekel (Robert) of Yakima and Marc (Jeannie) of Federal Way; eight grandchildren; and two great grandsons; a brother, Earl Howard, of Hadlock and a sister, Ina Brockmann of Seattle. In her younger years she was an active homemaker and civic contributor. She was a member of chapter A.N. P.E.O., a charter member of the Dr. C.H. Aylen Orthopedic Guild. For several years she served as chaperone to the daffodil court, and became Queen Mother in the late sixties. Pat was an avid boater and a member of the Tacoma Yacht Club. We boated to Southeast Alaska three times, sailed in the Caribbean, Tahiti, and Tonga. She loved life and the adventure of the sea. Catherine M. Egan, born
Jan. 23, 1924 in Harvey, N.D., died Apr. 27, 20breast cancer. A graduate of U. of Oregon, also completed 2 years law school at U. of Oregon. Cathy completed graduate work in Education at PLU and taught in the Dupont/Ft. Lewis Dist. She served 6 years on the Tacoma City Council. Other community services included Piece County Boundary Review Board; PC Drug Alliance; Municipal League; WA Environmental Council; 12 years as Commissioner Metro Park Dist. of Tacoma. Her memberships: Tacoma Branch AAUW, Pres., 1968-1970; Delta Kappa Gamma-Alpha TAU; League of Women Voters; Humane Society; Zonta International. A devoted public servant, she tirelessly gave to the betterment of the Tacoma community. Survived by her husband of 47 years, Andrew W. Egan, Jr., and daughter, Laura Egan. Cathy was in the first class of women WAVE officers, serving 4 years in U.S. Navy. Memorial services Sat., May 13, 2000, 1:00 PM., at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 6900 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W. on May 15, 2000. The 34th Anniversary of their being listed as missing in action in Vietnam. Colonel Jensen's remains were recently identified and returned to the United States. He grew up in Seattle, the son of George Alf and Marguerite Jensen. He graduated from Queen Anne High School and the University of Washington. He married
Mary Jane Holmes of Tacoma. He was a member of Delta Upsilon National Fraternity. He served his country during WWII, Korea and Vietnam as a member of the Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Carolyn (John) Thayer, Yakima; George Alf Jensen, San Francisco; sister, Anabel Bianchi, Seattle; niece, Paula; nephew, George; and grandmother, Shirley (Scott) Webster, Tacoma.

EMIL M. "KRIS" KRISMAN
Emil M. "Kris" Krisman, 92, died May 7, 2000, in Tacoma. Hern September 6, 1906 in East Helena, MT, and moved to Tacoma in 1937. He attended Carroll College and graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Metalurgical Engineering. He went on to attend graduate school at M.I.T. Following his retirement from ASARCO, he spent 9 years advising the Taiwanese government in the metal mining business as a member of the International Executive Service Corps. Kris was past president of the Knights of Columbus and a past president of the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Patrick's Parish where he was a parishioner for more than 70 years. Kris is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane; daughters, Mary Kerwin "Kim" Sterling and Kerry Ann McGinnis; brothers, Michael Krisman, Joseph Krisman, and Edward Krisman; grandchildren, Kenneth Peth, Jason Peth, Brandon Norwood, Brooke Sterling, Walter Sterling, Jordan Sterling; 3 great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 11, 2000, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 10, 2000, 7:00 p.m. at the 1002 S. Yakima Avenue Chapel. Helen Romig was born
March 14, 1916, in Northville, South Dakota to parents, A. Walter and Pearl K. (Lloyd) Hendrickson, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000. She graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. She was a 2nd grade school teacher in Aberdeen and Hospers, Iowa. Helen also worked in the Los Angeles area for Consolidated Voltee Aircraft and Farmers Insurance. On Jan. 11, 1947, she married
Donald C. Romig and was a homemaker thereafter. As a military wife she traveled to Hawaii and Germany for 19 years with her family. She was a resident of the Steilacoom area for 34 years. Helen enjoyed corresponding with friends, doing for others and travel. Most of all she enjoyed her family. She is survived by husband, Donald C. Romig; 2 sons, Gregory D. Romig of Oak Park, IL., and Forrest C. Romig of Lake Oswego, OR. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2000, at 2:00 P.M. in New Tacoma Cemetery. Louise A. Shaw
Louise A. Shaw died May 7, 2000. Born in Nova Scotia April 2, 1905, she was preceded in death by her husband, Courtland. She leaves a step-daughter, Helen Askew and her husband Tom of Mukilteo, also two sisters, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all living in Canada. Mrs. Shaw retired after serving 20 years in the United States Army Nurse Corps., which included service in World War II, and Korea. Nina Ball, born
Oct. 12, 1913 to Fenner and Nina Belle Ball in Three Rivers, Michigan, died May 6, 2000, in Tacoma. Due to the death of her mother 2 weeks after her birth, Nina was raised by Lois and L.Q. Langton, her aunt and uncle. Nina was actively involved with Girl Scouts, receiving the Golden Eaglet award in 1930. An active member of Mason United Methodist Church since 1926, United Methodist Women, Acacia Chapter #37 of Eastern Star for 60 years and Chapter #26 for 25 years, Kappa Phi, Association of Childhood Education, Administrative Women in Education, Retired Teachers' Association, Tahoma Terrace Residents' Club and Alpha Delta Kappa. Nina graduated from Stadium High School in 1931, College of Puget Sound in 1935, Pacific Lutheran College in 1942. She taught elementary school at Riverside, Central Avenue, Horace Mann, and Sherman, retiring in 1973 after 33 years. Survivors include her brother-in-law, Richard Mulkey of Park Forest, Illinois, and his children, Barbara Grant and Stephen Mulkey; and her cousin's wife, Jeanne Beckley of Port Angeles.
