Iver was born
in Norway. Came to this country at 18 and settled in Iowa. He moved his family to the Northwest during WWII. Iver farmed and worked for St. Regis, where he retired. Iver is preceded in death by his loving wife, Eunice and grandson, Erik. He is survived by son, Dale; daughters, Karen Newingham and Cheryl Gunderson; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters in Norway, Borghild and Karen. He will be missed. David Keith Stenstrom
Age 29, a longtime Tacoma resident, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2001. Dave enjoyed writing poetry, stories, and playing pool. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Surviving family includes his mother, Joyce Stenstrom-Albin of Tacoma, and his father, David A. Stenstrom of Florida; David’s son Zachary; his grandparents, Jean and Gus Stenstrom of North Carolina, and Harriett Bartkovich of Tacoma. Also surviving are his aunt and uncle, Kay and Leonard Medeiros of Tacoma, and cousins Bill Hudgens, Jason, Steve and Greg Medeiros. Keith Merle Workman
Age 61, passed away Sept. 29, 2001. He is deeply loved, and missed, and will be always in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Audra (Alan) Smith, Amber Curnow, Cosette and Heidi Workman; his son Aaron (Theresa) Workman and his adored grandchildren, Kyle and Julia; his siblings David (Debbie) Workman and Janice (Jim) Winslow. He was preceded in death by his Father, Frank Workman, his Mother Helen, and his brother, Timothy. The fond memories of Dad and Grandpa are: "His Girls", fishing, Banana/Coconut cream pie, April Fools Day chicken, Cars, The Navy, Boxing, back scratches, Dad’s yummy chicken, lists, peanut butter cookies, Puyallup Fair with his girls, pool time, Easter pancake breakfast, flowers (pansies), little kids, the elderly, and animals all loved him, the pumpkin patch, trick or treating, and music concerts. Edwin Murl Dean
Age 67, passed away October 1, 2001. Ed graduated from Franklin High School before serving in the Air Force Reserves. He retired from the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller after 21 years of service. He then went into Real Estate development. Ed lived his entire life in the Puget Sound area. He enjoyed flying and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Homer John Dean of Buckley, Michael Dean of Redmond, daughter Susan Burnett of Potomac, MT, father Homer Dean of Des Moines, sister Kathleen Dahlby of Renton, and brother Donald Dean of Huntington Beach, CA. Charles “Cas” Kuciemba in 1944. She served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and was employed at Western and Delta Airlines until her retirement. Alice Freda (Baugatz) Brown
Born in Miles City, Montana to Mary Bell and August Baugatz, December 26, 1944. She graduat- ed from Custer County High School in 1962. On March 27, 1973, Alice married
Allan W. Brown, Sr. in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Allan and Alice moved to Olympia, Washington in 1972, where Allan was stationed in the Army. On November 17, 1977, Alice gave birth to a baby girl, Christina Marie. September 30, 2001, Alice passed into spirit. Her favorite hobbies were to fish, chat on the Internet, bird watch and to be with friends and loved ones. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Allan W. Brown, Sr.; daughter Christina M. Brown; step- son, Allan W. Brown, Jr.; daughter- in-law Marla L. Brown; brother John Baugatz; sister Emma Bartsch and numerous nieces and nephews. Daniel E. (Danny) Gleason
Danny Gleason was born
in Tacoma on April 11, 1928 to Harry and Janet Gleason. He attended Tacoma Schools and lived in Tacoma all his life. Before retirement from Simpson Tacoma Kraft Co., he worked for St. Regis Paper Company and Champion International Paper Company. Danny was a 52-year veteran of the papermaking industry. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Michael Gleason and wife Laurie (granddaughters, Morgan and Lindsay) and daughter, Karen Jochim (grandsons, Jayson and Jonathan/grandaughter, Jordan). George L. “Swede” Hilliard
George, 78, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2001. He was born
in Columbus, NE on Feb. 9, 1923. George was a Navy veteran and served in WWII. He retired from St. Regis Paper Co. after 33 years of service. George is remembered fondly for his great sense of humor, love of life, and commitment to family and congregation. He was a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital and an avid community volunteer. Always involved in high school sports, every athletic director and coach in the State of WA knew George. He was loved by his family, many friends and Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marian; sons Mike, Bob and Jeff; stepson Jim; daughter Suzanne; daughter-in-law Diana; grandsons Mike Hilliard Jr., Bryan Firth; granddaughter Leah Long. Norman “Buzz” Hildebrand, born
February 26, 1918; passed away peacefully October 3, 2001 in Tacoma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the I.B.E.W. Union and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was preceded in death by wife, Catherine in March, 1994. Norman is survived by sons, Bob (Libby) Hildebrand of MN, Roger Hildebrand and Keith Hildebrand of Tacoma; daughters, Linda (Jim) Tedeschi, Karen (Andy) Brown of Tacoma and Mary Teese of TX; loving companion, Esther Stillwell of Tacoma; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Joyce Catherine Cain
Passed away peacefully October 1, 2001 at her daughter’s home in McCleary, Washington, in the loving company of her children. Born on January 25, 1922 to Hugh and Gladys Swartz, she grew up on Hunts Point in Medina, Washington. She graduated from Garfield High School and studied voice at the Cornish Institute in Seattle. She was married
for 49 years to Homer “Fuzzy” Cain, who passed away June 30, 1999. Joyce was a pioneer in the early days of commercial passenger aviation, joining Pan American Airlines in 1945 as a stewardess. She flew routes from Seattle to Alaska and eventually became part of the elite crew flying the famous Pan Am clipper ships from San Francisco to Honolulu. It was during this time that she married
Fuzzy, a United Airlines captain, and eventually retired to raise her family. The early years of family life were spent on Queen Anne Hill in Seat- tle. The family relocated to Gig Harbor in 1960, and for the next 28 years, Joyce was active in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, the lives of her children and community events. Over the years her interests included gardening, music, sewing, art and reading. She was an excellent cook and hostess, always graciously entertaining extended family and friends. After raising their family, Joyce and Fuzzy moved to Canterwood in Gig Harbor in 1988, where he enjoyed golf and she became acquainted with some of her dearest friends. Joyce will always be remembered for her love of family, her warmth, generosity, and surefire Irish wit. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend. Her strong faith was an integral part of her life. She was a grand and gracious lady. Joyce is survived by her daughter Patti (Dan) Champoux; sons Chris (Colleen) and Will (Karla); stepdaughters Janis Dennison, Janette Creager and Judie Papais-Cain; her brother Jack Swartz (Ardith); 16 grandchildren; one niece, Sharon Stevens, and two nephews, Ken Swartz and Jim Stanton. Sandy, 56, passed away September 30, 2001 in Tacoma, WA. She was preceded in death by father Frederick, mother Pauline, and husband Harold. Sandy is survived by daughters Jennifer and Carrie, brother Bill, sister-in-law Becky, nephew Corey and niece Emily. Sandy was born
in Olympia, grew up in Tacoma and resided in University Place. She graduated from Mt. Tahoma in 1963, and received a degree in English Education from Washington State University in 1967. After graduation she began her career at Washington Natural Gas Co., where she worked for 27 years. Dorothy A. (Breckon) Meacheam
Went home to be with Jesus, September 29, 2001, after a long fight against cancer. She was always cheerful and brave in the face of her illness, and often comforted her family instead of the other way around. Dorothy was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Yuma, Arizo- na and Orting Christian Church in Orting, Washington. She was a Past Matron of Naomi Chapter in Puyallup and Guiding Star Chapter in Sumner, Order of Eastern Star. She also served as Royal Matron of the Order of Amaranth of Puyallup and Yuma. She loved ceramics, crafts of all kinds, sewing, and especially her family. Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Clifford L. Meacheam; her sister, Eleanor (George) Peter; daughters Karen (Gary) McCamant, Cindy (Dennis) Dargan, Helen (Stephen) Botsford; their son, Steven (Joan) Meacheam; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lots of dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Orting Christian Church, 112 Varner Street in Orting, Washington, at 2 p.m. on October 7th. Donations to the American Cancer Society instead of flowers would mean so much more to her memory. She loved the Lord with all her heart and proved this truth all of her life.
Marguerite A. McDonald
Marguerite McDonald died Sept. 27, 2001 at St. Clare Hospital after a short illness. Marguerite was born
Dec. 20, 1921 in Canora, Sask., Canada to William and Ardeth Erichsen. She excelled in school, graduating with honors, and received the Canadian Legion Gold Medal. In her youth, she played tennis, boated, golfed, curled, and competed in hockey and Scottish dancing. She was a secretary in Regina and moved to Tacoma after WWII to join relatives here. She married
her husband William and proudly became a U.S. citizen. She worked until her retire- ment at McChord AFB in the federal civil service. Throughout her life she enjoyed all kinds of needlework, reading, bridge, travelling, good food and good conversation. Her wisdom, friendship and humor will be missed by all who knew her. Marguerite was a devoted moth- er, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anderson, her son-in-law, Dennis, and her beloved grandchildren, Nancy, Steven and David. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her only sister, Ruth. Visitation on Thursday, Oct. 4th from 9am to 9pm. Funeral services are 1:00pm Friday, Oct. 5th at the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, with graveside prayers following.
