Mary Kathleen Mura

Mary K. Mura, age 93, born Mary
Kathleen McDonald to her parents John
D. and Edith McDonald on June 10, 1911
in her family home on Meridian Street.
A lifelong resident of Bellingham, she
began first grade at Assumption
Catholic School in 1917, graduating in
1925. She attended Whatcom High
School, graduating with the class of
1929. Mary then pursued her lifelong
passion to be a teacher at Bellingham
Normal School (now Western Washington
University) where she was elected
student body vice-president. She began
her teaching career in Shelton,
Washington where, in 1938, she became
re-acquainted with her former 8th grade
classmate, Edward S. Mura, upon his
return from serving with the U.S.
Marine Corps in China. They were
death by her
husband of 47 years, Edward Mura in
1985, and her daughter Meriel E. Lepera
on May 20th of this year. She is
survived by her son Merek Mura and his
wife Elizabeth of Hawaii; her son
Steven Mura and his wife Chris of
Bellingham; and daughter Louann
Culbreth of Bellingham. She is also
survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great-
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Our mother’s passed away September 9,
2004 in Bellingham. He was death by his
wife of 34 years, Joan Williams;
parents, Laura and Griff Williams; and
brother, Dave Williams.
He is survived by his daughter Missey
Williams of Englewood, Florida and her
husband Tom Smith and their three
children, Hunter, Hayley, and Shannen;
son, Mike Williams of Parker,
Colorado and his wife Joy and their two
children, Gabrielle and Walker; uncle
David L. and his wife Ruth Hewitt of
Bellingham, Washington; and numerous
other relatives.
A Family & Friends Celebration will be
held Thursday, September 16 at
Willacliff; 2677 Haxton Way, from 6 pm
until Sunset.
Thank you for traveling from near and
far to be here tonight. We knew the one
way to make sure Dad would be with us,
was to of course have a fun gathering.
We also knew, that he would stay with
us, at least long enough to watch the
sunset!
It has been a rough road these last 15
days, but because of all of the love
and support from you, I can now Smile
and Remember the Good Times…
Margaret Ellen Hamstreet

Margaret E. Hamstreet, age 83 of
Bellingham, Washington, born August 11, 1921 in Sheridan,
Wyoming to Samuel & Alice (Bottomley)
Upton. Peg has been a Bellingham
resident since 1961. Peg gave the gift
of music to hundreds of children
throughout Whatcom County, teaching
private piano lessons as well as
teaching in the music department at
Western Washington University. She was
a member of numerous organizations
including: St. James Presbyterian
church; P.E.O. Sisterhood; Bellingham
Women’s Music Club, where she once
served as President; and Bellingham
Golf and Country Club where she was the
first woman to serve as President.
Peg is survived by her husband, James
Hamstreet of Bellingham; son Richard
(Gaye) Hamstreet of Randle, WA; son,
Charles Hamstreet of Bellingham; son,
James Hamstreet of Sammamish, WA; and
grandchildren, Kasandra Sasken,
Jennifer Lee and Stephanie Hamstreet.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday,
September 17th at St. James
Presbyterian Church at 11 AM.

Catherine Mae Asmus

Catherine M. Asmus, age 93 of
Bellingham, born in Denver, Colorado on May
3, 1911 to Edwin and Louise Buchan.
Catherine attended high school in
Hubbard, Iowa, and she moved to
Bellingham from Gaylord, Minnesota in
1985. Here in Bellingham, she was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church and
an active volunteer for the Bellingham
Public Library Outreach Program. Her
lifelong joy was her knitting, which
she rarely went anywhere without.
Catherine was preceded in Cemetery on Monday,
September 27 at 11:00 am with Pastor
Doug Iben officiating.
