Ivan James George passed away on January 8, 2007. He was 73 years old.
Born to John and Josephine (Poole) George on February 2, 1933, Ivan attended Olympic College and obtained his maters degree from Evergreen State College in Architectural Planning and Development before serving the Army as a pipe fitter.
Ivan was ordained as a Minister in Nashville, TN and served as the Chaplain for the American Legion, Post #83.
During his life, Ivan fished, logged and worked in various office positions. He was the planner for S.T.O. W., Small Tribes of Western Washington.
Ivan advised small tribes throughout Washington State on several different planning issues and was a Nooksack Housing board member.
Ivan loved watching and playing baseball and was a basketball coach and fan. He also enjoyed canoe pulling and had his own canoe.
Ivan is preceded in death by mother and father, John and Josephine (Poole) George; brothers, Johnny, Howard, and Danial George; sisters Clara Williams and Mabel Almojera.
He is survived by wife, Janice “Tassie” George; daughter, Audry May George; and granddaughter, Silita Wiggam as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Anna Vander Meer
Former Lynden resident Anna J. (Van Dalen) Vander Meer of Bellflower, Calif., passed away on June 28, 2001. She was 95.
Survivors include a son, Sam Vander Meer and wife Sharalene of Bellflower; a grandson, Ken Vander Meer and wife Lore of Hawaii; a granddaughter, Gloria Chomo and husband John; three great-granddaughters; two sisters, Sue Schouten of Everson and Martha Plaatsman of Everett; and a brother, John H. Van Dalen of Lynden.
Besides her parents, Anna was preceded in death by three sisters.
Anne Foss
October 4, 1922 - August 7, 2007
Birthplace: Seattle, Washington
Anne Foss of Bellingham, Washington, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, surrounded by her family. She was 84, born in Seattle on October 4, 1922, to Norma (Florito) and Marco Ganzini.
Anne graduated from West Seattle High School. She was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Anne married Gerald Foss in 1949. In 1957, they moved to Edmonds, Washington, where Anne worked as a Claims Manager for WA State Employment Security. After Gerald’s death in 1996, she moved to Bellingham in 1997.
Anne was a member of Lake Padden Women’s Golf Club. She was an avid bridge player, and she loved to fish, golf and dance.
She is survived by her three children: Chris Foss and husband Foster Rose, Geraldine Walker and husband John Richardson, and Anton and wife Kimberly Foss; grandchildren Cole and Mikayla Foss; sisters Bruna Prater and Ida O’Toole; brother Michael Ganzini; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in September. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation, 800 E. Chestnut St., # 1-C, Bellingham, WA 98225.

Richard "Dick" M. Cooper of Maple Falls, passed away at his home on Monday, Aug. 6, 2001. He was 74.

Jay Hewett

Jay William Hewett, former resident of Ferndale, Washington, passed away in Albany, Oregon, on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in a motocross accident. Jay was 17, born in Bellingham on May 15, 1990, to Christine (Binschus) and John Hewett.
Jay attended schools in Ferndale, moving to Albany, OR, last year where he attended South Albany High School. He was an honor student and an avid motocross racer.
Jay is survived by his parents, John Hewett and Christine Hewett; sister Keather Hewett; brother Cody Hewett; grandparents, Ron and Marleen Hewett, Glen and Jeanne Binschus; great-grandmother Ruby Christensen; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 16th, at Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale.

Ellen Marean
August 9, 1937 - August 11, 2007
Birthplace: Everett, Washington
Ellen M. Marean of Bellingham, Washington, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2007. She was 70 years old, born in Everett on August 9, 1937, to Dagney (Holland) and Wilmer Svensson.
Before moving to Whatcom County in 2004, Ellen resided on Lopez Island for 31 years, where she co-owned and operated Blue Fjord Cabins. She was also a social worker in her earlier years.
She is survived by her husband Stan, of 42 years, whom she married on August 14, 1965. She is also survived by daughters Kris and husband Saul Kahihikolo, Lisa and husband Kimball Crockett; grandchildren: Anela, Niki and Seth; brother Gordon Peterson; sisters: Arlene MacIsaac, Martha McAllister, and Pauline Pace; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.
At Ellen’s request, a private memorial service will be held.

ROBERT L. (BOB) OSWALT
October 27, 1928 - August 12, 2007
Birthplace: Russellville, Arkansas
Bob Oswalt passed away peacefully in Bellingham, Washington, on August 12, 2007. He was born in Russellville, Arkansas, on October 27, 1928, to Clarence and Hazel (Dollar) Oswalt and moved to Bellingham with his family in 1945. He served with the Occupation Forces in Japan after the Second World War.
Bob married Lois Copland on Sept. 12, 1950. They never moved away from Bellingham, which Bob considered to be the most beautiful place in the world and where he worked as a pressman at the Bellingham Herald. Bob passed his lifelong love of history and literature on to his children and other friends and relatives.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Susan Bainter (John) of Bothell, WA; son Jess of Houston, TX; five grand-children: Corinne, Stephen and Tyler Cosentino and Dan and Melissa Oswalt; sister Pat Sims (Roger) of Orlando, FL; brother Clarence Oswalt (Myla) of Shelton, WA; two nieces and a nephew; and his sister-in-law Nona Inman of Longview, WA. He is also survived by his caregiver for six years, Marianne Zweegman, who took such wonderful care of him.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 4th, at Woodlawn Cemetery, with The Reverend Gary Shoemaker officiating.
