Arlene Fay Fischer
5/1 /1919- 6/22/2004

Arlene Fay Fischer, age 85, passed away with her family at her side on June 22, 2004 in Bellingham, WA.
Arlene was born to Walter and Lilly Montgomery in Ottawa, Kansas on May 1, 1919.
After graduating from high school in 1937, she came to Bellingham in 1939 and has resided here since.
Arlene met and married Charles Fischer on April 4, 1942.
They were married for 56 years, spending many of those years snowbirding with friends in Indio, CA.
They raised four children Frances, Robert, Barbara and Scott. Her faith in God and her family were most important to her.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Bellingham.
She will be remembered by those who loved her as a courageous and caring woman facing life's difficulties with humor and perseverance.
Arlene worked in Whatcom County, at many jobs during her life; most important to her was that of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She also worked at Morse Hardware, the offices of Dr. Frere, Dr. Heid and Dr. Greene and for the Blaine School District.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fischer in 1998, her parents Walter and Lilly Montgomery, brothers Larry and Harlie Montgomery and son-in-law David Hansen.
She is survived by her son Scott (Rose) Fischer of Bellingham, WA; son Robert (Carrillee) Fischer of Blaine, WA; daughter Barbara (Bruce) Abbey of Waitsburg, WA; daughter Fran Hansen of Bow, WA; brother Dean (Dee) Montgomery of Pittsburg, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three nephews and one niece.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Turk, Ellie Johnston and the staff at Mt. Baker Care Center for their loving and kind care.
Also, special thanks to her family at First Baptist Church for their unceasing prayers and love during this last illness and throughout her life.
She was loved by many and will be missed. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 110 Flora Street, Bellingham, WA 98225; PO Box 5916 Bellingham, WA 98227.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Saturday, June 26th at 1 PM.

Ruth Lee Duffin
9/19/1924- 6/7/2004

Ruth Lee Duffin, age 79. of Bellingham, passed away Monday, June 7th in Bellingham.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Sept. 19, 1924 to James and Eva Williams.
Ruth married Robert W. Duffin in 1943.
During Robert's 30-year military career, they traveled and moved across the country.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and flyfishing.
Ruth was a skilled artist and attended Chicago Institute of Art, and as a vocalist she sang on the radio and with big bands in Chicago.
She loved camping and was fond of all animals.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert Duffin of Bellingham; son, Michael Duffin of Bellingham; son, Robert (Robbi) Duffin, Jr. of Texas; daughter, Catherine Duffin of Colorado; daughter, Kerri (John) White of Lake Stevens; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom Humane Society, 3710 Williamson Way, Bellingham, WA 98226 or Children's Hospital, P.O. Box C-5371, Seattle, WA 98105.
Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Saturday, June 12th at 10 AM.
Funeral Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Saturday, June 12th at 11:30 AM followed by a reception in the chapel.

Sharon Avon Spence
10/14/1955- 6/18/2004

Sharon "Sam" Spence, age 48, of Blaine, passed away in Seattle on June 18th, 2004.
She was born October 14th, 1955 in Weslaco, TX, to Paul and Patricia (McDonald) Gross.
Sam was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Blaine.
She was a people person, and always loved to talk to anyone who was around her.
She enjoyed her family, flowers, cooking and crocheting.
Sam was preceded in death by her father, Paul Gross.
She is survived by her husband Bobby Spence of Blaine; son Vernon (Lisa) McAfee of Ft. Hood, TX; daughter, Jessica (Rob) Meints of Chula Vista, CA; daughter, Rebecca McAfee of Chula Vista; daughter Julie (Matthew) Hall of Chula Vista; daughter Heather Spence of Pflugerville, TX; son Jeremy Spence of San Antonio, TX; sister, Marion Cawley of Bryan, TX; brother, Robert McDonald of Humboldt, TN; mother, Patricia McDonald of Rio Hondo, TX; along with 7 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sam's honor to the National MS Society, Training & Resource Center, 700 Broadway, Suite 810, Denver, CO 80203.
Services will be held at Church of Christ the King, (1460 Midway Dr.) in Alpine, CA, on Friday, June 25th at 2:00 PM.

Marjorie Tallahan
9/28/1911- 6/8 /2004

Marjorie "Smaragda" Tallahan, age 92, of Bellingham, passed away Tuesday, June 8th.
She was born in Hydra, Greece on September 28, 1911 to John and Aglaia Drivas.
Marjorie married Gus Tallahan on April 20, 1936 in Vancouver, B.C.
She was a former member of St. George's Church in Vancouver, B.C., and St. Demetrious Church in Seattle, and she was currently a member of St. Sophia Church and the Women's Hellenic Club in Bellingham.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with summer days spent picnicking and bar-b-queuing at Birch Bay, with family and friends.
She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, and was a very good cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus "Nap" Tallahan and an infant daughter.
Marjorie is survived by her son John Tallahan of Bellingham; son, Jim (Linda) Tallahan of Seattle; daughter, Joanne (Gus) Karanson of Marysville; sister, Maria (Nick) Kalogirou of Athens, Greece; five grandchildren Tina, John, Louie, Bill, Lisa; and two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Samantha.
Flowers are welcome, and memorials may be made to St. Sophia Building Fund.
Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Friday, June 11th from 10 – 5.
A Trisagion Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sunday, June 13th at 7 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Sophia Church on Monday, June 14th at 11 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service at Bayview Cemetery.
