Ruth Secille Stone
4/29/1911 - 12/22/2004
Ruth S. Stone, age 93, born
April 4, 1911 in Des Moines, Iowa to
Solomon and Agnes Weinberg.
Harry and Ruth moved to Bellingham in
1988 where they lived for a time with
their daughter-in-law, Sue Stone and
husband Rod Zoske. They soon purchased
a Bellingham home with their daughter,
Brenda Rogers. Brenda has been their
loving caregiver for 16 years.
Ruth was such a wonderful mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother.
Everyone loved her. She was so
interested in all of her family. Ruth
was so filled with love and laughter.
Her daughter remembers hearing her
mother laughing hysterically as her and
her father watched their favorite
program Wheel of Fortune. Laughter was
always a part of an encounter with
Ruth. She always had a smile on her
face and people loved to be in her
presence. You could always depend on
Ruth to tell the honest truth and
sometimes people were surprised by her
responses. She could really critique
you or the situation with clarity and
humor. Ruth always associated with
younger people because she was so
youthful at heart. Her love of square
dancing kept her vibrant.
Ruth was a retiree from Walt Disney
Studios. In the days when Walt Disney
knew many employees by name, Ruth
managed the fan mail and tour
department. She wrote many replies to
children signing Mickey Mouse and other
characters names. Her daughter Brenda
could always count on her mother to
spell any word or add columns of
numbers in her head. She was so
sharp. And she also loved to shop.
Ruth was preceded in died Saturday, February 26,2005 in
the Sheridan V.A. Hospital.
Mr. Rhoades was married Evva Lavern Townsend in
Texas January 15, 1945, and she
preceded him in married Vera Kaufmann October 9, 1993
in Bellingham, WA where the resided
until moving to Sheridan, WY in 2000.
“Dusty” was a member of Immanuel
Lutheran Church of Sheridan, and a
member of the National Association of
Letter Carriers. He enjoyed playing
cards, boats and the waters of
Bellingham, taking walks, and spending
time with his family.
He was preceded in passed away
at home Saturday morning, February 19,
2005 due to complications from
cigarette smoking. She was preceded in
born September 20, 1922 in
Guthrie, Oklahoma spending her early
childhood there before moving to the
Denver, Colorado area where Pat
attended nursing school before she and
Jim were married in 1944. Pat spent the
next 23 years traveling from base to
base, always with a sense of adventure,
until finally settling in Bellingham in
1973. Pat enjoyed meeting new people,
was a voracious reader, an excellent
seamstress and an exceptional cook who
prepared both gourmet and simple meals
from cookbooks gathered from around the
world. Though we may not have written
down all of Pat's recipes, we will
always remember her love of a fine meal
with friends and family. Over the
years, Pat's irascible character and
penchant for games of chance endeared
her to many of her young friends and
kept the rest of us on our toes.
Pat is survived by daughters Deedra
Thompson, Nancy Raymer, Paula Wlaznak,
Elizabeth Harburg, Melinda Harburg,
sons Michael, Peter and David, Brother-
in-law Bill and wife Sally, 11
grandchildren and 5 great-
grandchildren. Pat requested that no
service be held but wanted the family
to share a special meal together in her
remembrance.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom
Hospice Foundation.
