Hazel Alice Schmeil
7/15/1904 - 2/26/2005
Hazel Alice Schmeil, 100, caught the
train home to Glory February 26,
2005. "I am ready for the trip," she'd
been saying. "I just haven't got my
ticket yet.” Last Saturday the Lord
gave her the ticket.
Hazel was known as the "traveling
grandma," visiting family from Sweden
to Africa, Jamaica to Louisiana. She
enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her
family delighted in birthday and
Christmas gifts of sweaters and socks
from her talented hands. Hazel was
also a gifted cook and used this talent
at Marietta school for 12 years.
married James Cochran Norris in 1921 in
Roslyn, Washington, later settling in
Bellingham, where after her first
husband's married
Carl Schmeil in 1931. Mr. Schmeil
death. Bud is survived
by his wife Gloria Norris of
Burlington. Hazel has 23
grandchildren, and a number of great-
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March
1 from 12 – 5 pm at Westford Funeral
Home. An open Graveside Service will
be held at 11 am Wednesday, March 2 at
Woodlawn passed away Friday,
February 18, 2005. She was passed away,
and Mary moved the family to
Bellingham, and later death by her
husband, Lloyd, one sister, and one
brother.
Pat is survived by her son Richard
(Judi) Prettyman of Bellingham,
grandchildren Reese Prettyman and Janna
(Jason) Rich of Bellingham; and great-
grandchildren Kaytlin and Kylie Rich.
Also survived by sisters Ida Nelson of
CA and Margaret (Bob) Lorenzo of
Bellingham; brother Jerry Paolergio of
Bellingham; brother-in-law Bob LaPlant
of Bellingham; nephews Ron (Becky)
Nelson of CA, Jerry (Suzie) Nelson of
CA, Perry Lorenzo of Seattle, and Jeff
(Sandy) LaPlant of Bellingham; nieces
Pat Pentz of CA and Tina LaPlant of
Seattle.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom
Hospice or to the charity of your
choice. Funeral Services will be held
at Westford Funeral Home on Fri., Feb.
25 at 11:00 AM followed by a reception
across the street at Westford’s
Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway.
Eugene 'Gene' W. Gillespie
11/20/1921 - 2/21/2005
Eugene “Gene” W. Gillespie, age 83 of
Bellingham born on
November 20th, 1921 in Wenatchee,
Washington. His father Walter managed
an apple orchard and his mother Alice
was a seasonal apple packer. Shortly
after completing High School, Gene
born January 28, 1919 in Morehead,
KY to Milford & Anna (Stewart) Zornes.
As a young man Chuck was very active
and participated in athletics. Soon
after graduating from High School Chuck
entered the US Army and served as
Sergeant during WWII and earned a
Purple Heart. He was a member of the
American Legion, the Disabled American
Vets and the VFW. Chuck enjoyed
watching sports, playing golf and
supporting his children’s activities.
He was very outgoing, friendly,
gregarious and playful in any group
setting. Chuck was preceded in Cemetery, Ferndale.
