Everett Franklin Abbey

Everett passed away peacefully on April 13, 2005. He was born in a farm house in Three Hills, Alberta, grew up in Chilliwack and after living overseas spent his last 25 years in Point Roberts, WA. He is survived by his loving wife, Stella Abbey. He is survived by his sons, Mel (Cynthia), Neil (AnnaDorte), and Mark; daughter Pam (Garry); grandchildren, David, Jon, Kjerstin, Nicole, Sebastian, Jason and Ashley; former wives, Frances and Vi; step-sons Patrick, Kevin (Stephanie) and step-daughter, Carla (James); step-grandchildren, Adrienne, Chrystale, Jessica, Mia, and Madelyn; and great- grandchild, Maia. Ev's passion was flying. Having served in the Canadian Air Force during World War II, he learned to fly and became an instructor. He then joined Canadian Pacific Airlines in its early years, where he was a pilot for 30 years, including several terms as the Head to CP's South American base in Lima, Peru. Ev's knowledge of history along with his own amazing stories and experience with his travels made him an unforgettable story-teller. Everett loved the outdoors and sports-tennis, golf, windsurfing, and fishing & crabbing off Point Roberts shores in his trusty boat, 'The Happa' He was an avid gardener and he shared the bounty of his efforts with family, friends, and the Point Roberts food bank. His participation in his local community will be fondly remembered. Everett's Celebration of Life will be held at the Trinity Community Church in Point Roberts on April 16, 2005 at 11 am.
Hillary Barbara Amonsen

Hillary B. Amonsen, age 51, passed away on July 9, 2005 in Maui, Hawaii, where she had been vacationing. Hillary was born in Santa Monica, California and graduated from UCLA with a degree in English and a paralegal certificate. She was a woman of great faith who loved and served God. Hillary worked for Bellingham Public Schools, where she was known as the "lunch lady" at Carl Cozier Elementary and later as a secretary at Sehome High School. She loved young people and volunteered arranging choreography for numerous school productions. She is survived by her husband, Douglas, daughter, Mary, son, David, and brother, John McKee of Crete, IL. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, July 19th at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Bellingham, WA, with reception to follow immediately. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Pearl Amanda Allen

Pearl A. Allen, of Bellingham, passed away Thursday, June 09, 2005 at the age of 98. She was born October 3, 1906 in Goshen, WA, to Marion and Hattie Porter. Pearl attended school in Winthrop, where her family homesteaded. She was a homemaker and, from 1950- 1980, loved selling Avon products door- to-door in Auburn. She also enjoyed music, singing, and playing the guitar and was an avid member of the Republican Party. Her first husband, Clifford G. Allen, was a construction worker, coal miner, and logger. He was also chairman of Snohomish Indian tribe for some 20 years. Pearl was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford G. Allen, second husband, Stuart Allen, and three daughters, Bonnie Jean Mills, Frances Drager, and June Pearl Knutson. She is survived by two sons, William Thomas Allen of Ocean Shores, WA, and Carl Allen of Bellingham. Pearl was very proud of her many awards from providing Avon products to her friends and neighbors. Funeral Services will be held at Powers Funeral Home, in Sumner on Tuesday, June 14 at 1 P.M., followed by burial in Sumner Cemetery.
John Arthur Andersen

John A. Andersen, age 82, passed away December 10, 2005 in Bellingham. He was born August 2, 1923 in Valley, Nebraska, to Arthur & Eva Andersen. During WWII, John served in the U.S. Navy. He continued his service to the U.S. as a Border Patrol and later an Immigration Officer. He was an easy- going guy with a great sense of humor and loved to tease. He enjoyed martinis, food, and had a real passion for football and baseball, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers. John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Pete" Andersen. He is survived by his wife, Mona; son Donn and partner Shannon of B.C.; daughter, Gail of Denver, CO; granddaughter, Kristin and her daughter, Megan, of B.C.; grandson, Michael of B.C; sister-in-law, Marjorie Andersen of Arlington, NE and 3 nieces. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Tues., Dec. 13 at 11 A.M. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow at the family home. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #7.
Albert John Smethurst

Albert J. Smethurst "Al" passed away Monday, July 14 at Fort Vancouver Nursing Home. He was born November 15, 1917 to Mabel and John Smethurst in Bellingham. He attended Lowell grade school and Fairhaven High School, graduating in 1936. His working years were in the shoe business starting with chains; Hohl Shoe Company and Blocks, then into the independent field. Al worked for Tommy Atkins for ten years. He then bought the business from Tommy and renamed it "Al's Shoe Store." He retired in 1982. Al was a life member of Masonic Lodge #73, F.& A.M, Bellingham Elks #194, and "Friends of Fairhaven High." He was also a past member of Bellingham Yacht Club, Boy Scouts Troop #7, National Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, and Executive Club. He served as Corporal in the Marine Corps for 3 years in World War II. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, taking care of his yard, and watching all types of sports. Al was preceded in death by his wife, Jan, brother Bud Smethurst and parents Mabel and John Smethurst. He is survived by three daughters, Benia (Terry) Fitzsimmons of Castle Rock, CO, Linell Wortman of Brush Prairie, WA, and Sharon Smethurst of Carol Stream, IL; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be at Westford Funeral Home Thursday, July 17 from 12 – 5 P.M. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 18 at 11:00 AM at Greenacres Cemetery in the Masonic Section, with full military honors by American Legion Post #7. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
