Amanda C. Riley

Amanda Clarice Knutson Clark Riley,
known to many as Aunt Mandy, passed
away in Lynden WA on April 9, 2004.
Amanda was married Carl Clark in 1930. In
addition to becoming Carl's wife, she
took on the job of helping him raise
his four boys Harold, Claude, Archie,
and Clayton as well as her niece and
nephew Jack and Jean Knutson.
After becoming a widow, Amanda died peacefully in her
sleep Sunday, March 7, 2004 at the
Alderwood Park in Bellingham,
Washington.
A Celebration of Life will be held at
1:00 pm Saturday, March 13, at the
Marina in Point Roberts.
Mrs. Wallace was married Sydney Johnstone Wallace on
August 3, 1940, in Vancouver, British
Columbia.
Margo and Syd lived in California, New
Jersey, Connecticut, and Ontario over
the ensuing years, finally retiring to
Point Roberts in 1975. Retirement
activities included a garden full of
flowers, an active membership in the
Tsawwassen Evergreen Garden Club,
authoring “In the Garden”, a gardening
column in the Point Roberts All Point
Bulletin, family visits and wonderful
cruises to exotic places.
Margo is survived by her husband of 64
years, Sydney J. Wallace; daughters and
sons-in-law, Robin and Richard Boysen
of Anchorage, Alaska, and Meredith and
Bob Schultz of Stamford, Connecticut;
son and daughter-in-law, Craig and
Allie Wallace of Painesville, Ohio;
seven grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren; and her brother Frank
Appelbe of West Vancouver, British
Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, the Wallace family
has requested that donations will be
gratefully received and acknowledged in
the name of the Point Roberts Pioneer
Group (that supports our Aydon Wellness
Clinic) at P.O. Box 1311, Point
Roberts, WA 98281.
Isabel Francis Ross
1/8/1918 - 4/10/2004
Isabel Francis Ross, age 86 of
Bellingham born in
Encampment, Wyoming on January 8, 1918.
She graduated from Encampment High
School and attended the University of
Wyoming. Isabel enjoyed playing golf.
She worked for the Veterans
Administration. Isabel is survived by
her son Charles Ross of Bellingham,
brother George Clements of Oklahoma
City, sister Margaret Evans of Riggins,
Idaho and sister-in-law Audra Clements
of Middleton Idaho.
Clara T Johnson
9/12/1910 - 2/16/2004
Clara Johnson, age 93, born
September 12, 1910 in Marietta, WA
to Icelandic immigrants Steine and
Augustina Goodman. Clara death were her
husband, H. Gus Johnson on December 3,
1974; son Noel Stephan Johnson on
August 3, 1973; brothers Arthur, Louis,
August, and Arnold Goodman.
Survivors include son Jerry and wife
Nellie Johnson of Bellingham;
grandsons, Leif and wife Kelly Johnson
of Bellingham; Ryan Johnson of
Bellingham and granddaughter, Dana
Johnson of Vancouver WA; great
grandchildren William and Bailey Molnar
of Bellingham; and numerous nieces and
other relatives.
Clara in her early years of marriage
worked for Dr. Eric Johnson in
Bellingham as a bookkeeper. She was
actively involved in the Marietta
community, including Marietta
elementary school P.T.A., Marietta
Grange, and serving as a volunteer in
the Marietta District precinct voting
polling place. She also was a member of
the ladies of Freyja Club, an Icelandic
ladies charitable organization in
Bellingham.
Clara enjoyed country living, being
close to nature and all its wonders.
She enjoyed the seasonal changes, and
kept yearly records of temperatures and
weather conditions on her calendars. As
a lifelong hobby, she took many
pictures with her camera as well as
newspaper clippings from the Bellingham
Herald and made many scrap books of
significant family, community, and
world events that were meaningful to
her.
She loved family values, and thoroughly
enjoyed her time spent visiting and
entertaining family and friends, many
of whom were of Icelandic descent.
She always had a fresh pot of
percolated coffee brewing and some sort
of treat ready for those who came to
visit at her home. Clara was an
excellent baker. Her homemade apple
pies and cinnamon rolls were a special
treat, thoroughly enjoyed by family and
friends.
Clara was a grand lady! Her upbeat,
positive attitude, laughter, and
generosity will long be remembered by
those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests
a memorial to Whatcom Hospice
Foundation, 800 East Chestnut, Suite
LL1, Bellingham, WA 98225, or your
favorite charity. At Clara’s request
no services will be held.
