Effie E. Asmundson, age 80, born June 14, 1924 in Eldon, MO
to Henry & Gladys (Washburn) Weeks.
Effie was in the U.S. Navy during
WWII. She helped to found the Boundary
Bay WAVES in Bellingham. As a WAVE,
she was part of the Singing Platoon
which provided publicity for the
WAVES. She sang on the Arthur Godfrey
Show and on the Texas Star Theater.
Effie death by her
husband in 1990; her parents; sister
Rosemary Weeks; and brother H. George
Weeks.
She is survived by son John (Pat)
Asmundson of Bellingham; daughter Mary
Ellen (John Brew) Asmundson of Seattle;
sister Carol (Marvin) Langley of
Spanaway, WA; sister Imogene Morris of
Longview, WA; 3 grandchildren, Julie &
Jennifer Asmundson and Brian Brew; and
numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of
Whatcom County, 800 E. Chestnut, Suite
C1, Bellingham, WA 98225. Graveside
Services with full military honors by
American Legion Post #7 will be held
Thursday, May 12 at 11:30 AM at
Greenacres born on
Dec. 16, 1924 in McCook, NE. She was
the proud and loving wife of Ernest
Anderson, who passed away July
31, 2003 at his home in Bellingham. He
was married Julia Johnson, and they
remained lifetime residents of Whatcom
County, raising their daughter and
three sons here. Wally worked at Hawley
Farms for 30 years, for the US Forest
Service for 6 years, and then for the
501 School District as a custodian for
11 years until his retirement in 1980.
In his free time, Wally enjoyed outdoor
activities such as fishing, clam
digging, and golf.
Wally is survived by his loving wife of
64 years; son, Steve (Linda) Dodd of
Bellingham; son, Phil (Carroll) Dodd of
Vancouver, WA; daughter, Susan (Keith)
Bakker of Bellingham; and son, Stan
(Chris) Dodd of Bellingham. Also
survived by his grandchildren, Greg
Dodd, Mike (Wanda) Dodd, Tim (Dawn)
Dodd, Tracy (Frank) Tetro, Amy (Mike)
Lathrop, Kary (Clint) Hulsebus, Pat
(Jessica) Dodd, and Parker Dodd; as
well as great grandchildren Greg and
Garrett Lathrop and Anna Hulsebus.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00
pm on Friday, August 8th at Laurel
Community Baptist Church, with Rev.
Robert Cameron officiating. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to your
favorite charity.
Alice Roberta Cast
8/15/1907 - 9/30/2005
Alice Roberta Cast, age 98 of
Bellingham, born August 15, 1907 in
Louisville, KY to Herbert and Anna
(Dauber) Winterburn. Alice worked for
the telephone company as an operator
for 46 years. In 1932 she sailed to
Hawaii on the Vigilant as one of the
very few women crew people allowed on
the five-masted schooner. Alice served
in the Army during WWII from 1942 until
1945. She was one of the first two
WAC’s to take to the air as a radio
operator on B-17 bombers. She raised
thoroughbred horses for many years and
had several successful national
winners.
Alice was preceded in Cemetery on Thursday, October 6th at
2:00 PM with full military honors by
American Legion Post #7.
Lester William Wambsgans
10/5/1907 - 3/12/2005
Lester W. Wambsgans, age 97, passed
away March 12, 2005 in Bellingham.
Lester was married his
wife Maude in Des Moines in 1926.
Lester was an industrial mechanic for
over 40 years and worked at Yeager’s
after he retired. He was a long time
member of the Masonic Lodge #460 in
Rogers, Arkansas. Lester enjoyed
fishing, camping, bowling, travel and
watching the Sonics and Mariners.
Lester was a quiet man who spent much
of his time with his family and
listening to music.
Lester was preceded in Cemetery in Ferndale.
