Millie May Martens
7/26/1924 - 9/9/2006
For eighty-two years Millie fought the good fight
With stubborn unending pride
But today with the coming of dawn’s early light.
Millie Martens quietly passed away Sept. 5, 2006.
She was married, and lived in St.
Louis, Australia, Hawaii, and
eventually Bellingham. She volunteered
at St. Joseph Hospital and was always
kind, social and generous. Margaret was
a wonderful wife and mother and an
inspiration to all who met her.
Preceded in passed away August 20, 2006. John was
passed away on the evening of
July 13, 2006, after a brief illness.
His final days were spent among family
and friends at the home of his eldest
son, George, in Bellingham.
Dick was born to Alfred and Rosalind
(Moerke) Schmidt. After a rural
childhood in northern Wisconsin, Dick
went on to the University of Wisconsin
at Madison, where he graduated with
honors in 1944 with a B.S. in Civil
Engineering. He then moved out west and
began graduate studies in Economics at
the University of Utah, but in 1945 was
drafted and spent two years in the U.S.
Army stationed in Germany. Upon his
discharge from the service, he returned
to Salt Lake City where he met, and in
1950 married until her
death by his wife,
Carol. He is survived by his son George
(wife Marybeth Manning) of Bellingham;
his son Roger (wife Paula Hillis) of
Pocatello, Idaho; and his daughter
Julie (husband Scott Strand) of
Anchorage, Alaska. He is also survived
by seven grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on
Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 1:00 p.m.
at Westford Funeral Home, 1301
Broadway, Bellingham. A reception will
follow. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to Whatcom Hospice
Foundation, 800 East Chestnut, Suite
1C, Bellingham, WA 98225.

6/5/1939 - 6/14/2006
Paul W. Skaggs, age 67 born June 5, 1939
in Hot Springs, SD to Howard Sr. and
Willasene Skaggs. Paul met Camille
Schwabe and they death by his infant
son Mark, his parents, and sister Betty
King. Survived by wife Camille, son
Patrick (wife Rebecca) and their
children Henry and Claire, daughter
Shannon (husband Jeff) Wanlin and their
children Jensen and Tyler, brother
Howard Skaggs, Jr. and wife Nancy of
Ft. Pierre, SD, aunt Frieda Skaggs,
cousin Alice Skaggs of Freemont, NB and
numerous friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Bellingham

a worthy BHS student or ALS Evergreen
Chapter, 6627 S. 191st Pl., Kent, WA

Vigil Services will be held at Westford
Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18 at 7
PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at Church of the Assumption on
Monday, June 19 at 10:30 AM followed by
a reception at the church.
