D. John Hogan
6/12/1913 - 2/26/2004

John Hogan, age 90 of Bellingham,
born June 12,
1913 in Seattle, WA to John and
Gertrude (Smith) Hogan. John was a
lifelong member of Assumption Parish.
He was a member of
the parish building and grounds
committee, the United Association of
Plumbers and Pipefitters – Local #40,
Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent De
Paul. He worked for Martins and Blythe
Plumbing Companies, and Pacific
American Fisheries. John served as
chairman of the Building Committee of
the Dr. Edgar A. Doll Development
Center. Also, he was instrumental in
the development of the Max Higbee Drop-
In Center.
John was preceded in passed away February 27, 2004 in
Bellingham. Boyd was married his
wife Margaret on Nov. 12, 1960 in Cle
Elem at St. John the Baptist Church. He
was a Korean War veteran, serving in
the US Navy on the USS Essex. He was a
member of the VFW and the Roslyn Eagles
649. Boyd owned Cedar’s Restaurant in
Ferndale and was the owner and operator
of the Silver Fox in Everson. He
enjoyed restoring classic Chevrolets,
gold mining, fishing and hunting.
Boyd is survived by his wife Margaret
of Ferndale; brother Raymond Davie of
Brush Prarie, WA; sisters Wilhelma
Cowin of Lynden, Rosemary Kobberstad of
Lynden, Betty Cole of Ferndale; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Bellingham Services: Funeral
Services will be held at Westford
Funeral Home in Bellingham on
Wednesday, March 3 at 2:30 PM with Fr.
Frank Schuster of Assumption Catholic
Church officiating. A gathering will
follow at Portal Creek Park, 6350
Portal Way, Ferndale.
Cle Elum Services: Funeral
Services will be held at Cascade
Funeral Home in Cle Elum on Friday,
March 5 at 1:00 PM followed by a
Military Graveside Service at Laural
Hill Memorial Gardens in Cle Elum.

Rodger Douglas Dalen
7/20/1914 - 2/28/2004

Rodger D. Dalen, age 89, born in Douglas
County, Minnesota on July 20, 1914. He
graduated from Ridgefield High School
in 1934. Rodger worked for the Seattle
Lumber Industry just out of high
school. He also helped build Grand
Coulee Dam as an accountant at the
building site.
He served in the US Army as a Staff
Sergeant with the Headquarters
Detachment of the 7th Army Corps during
World War II, landing in Normandy on D-
day, then continuing with his service
in Northern France, Central Europe, the
Rhineland and the Ardennes. While
serving in the Army, he earned a Bronze
Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, a
Good Conduct Medal, the European
African Middle Eastern Service Medal,
the Victory Medal, and a Bronze Service
Arrowhead. After the war, he worked for
the VA Hospital in Vancouver, WA, until
he retired.
Rodger met Sue, his wife of almost 60
years, at church, and they death by brothers
Alfred, Arnold, and Vernon Dalen, and
grandson Stephen Matthew Tsiorvas.
Rodger is survived by wife Sue Dalen of
Vancouver, WA; daughter Katherine Dalen
and son-in-law Edwin H. Williams III of
Bellingham; brother Rolland Dalen of
Vancouver, WA; sister Betty Goldberg of
Vancouver, WA; sister Lois Anderson of
Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Brendon
and Emily Kiddle, George and Andrew
Tsiorvas; step-grandchildren Akilah and
Taj Williams, and Damon Jones, great-
grandchildren Brylie and Dannikah
Grandberg-Kiddle and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday,
March 9th, at 1:00 PM in Vancouver, WA,
at Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene,
14410 NW 21st Ave.; internment will
follow at the Memorial Gardens
Cemetery, 1101 NE 112th Ave., (360) 892-
6060. There will be a reception
afterward. Memorials may be made to
Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene in
Vancouver, WA, or The Stephen Matthew
Tsiorvas Memorial Foundation located at
1155 N State St., Bellingham, WA 98225.
Rodger, rest in peace and remember our
love as we will remember yours.
