Beverly Elaine McBeath
10/5/1927 - 6/4/2006
Beverly Elaine McBeath, age 78, passed
away June 4, 2006 in Bellingham. She
was married and later
moved to California where she raised
her two children in Santa Clara. Bev
was an account executive for Merrill
Lynch and was proud to be one of their
first 'lady stockbrokers'. She retired
after almost 30 years and went on to
enjoy traveling, bridge, and keeping a
sharp eye on the politics of the day.
She left many wonderful 'family
friends' from the 'old neighborhood' in
California, and after 50 years moved
back 'home' to Bellingham in 2004. She
was thrilled to have had this precious
time with her extended family and all
her high school friends once again;
(especially all the gals from her"
Birthday Club"). Bev was very
generous and fun loving; always ready
for a 'hot fudge sundae' or glass of
wine at the end of a busy
day......'pass it along' was a favorite
saying.....and she lived it day by
day....
Bev was preceded in passed away Saturday, December
15th peacefully after a brief illness.
She was married for 57 years to
Robert F. Schwandt, who preceded her in
born in Seattle to
Blanche and George Nord on October 21,
1931. Anne was raised in south Seattle
and was a 1949 graduate of Highline
High School. She became a flight
attendant prior to her marriage to
George in 1952. Along with becoming
mother to Cathie and Chris, Anne was a
homemaker, coach’s wife, mentor and a
local newspaper columnist. She and
George moved from Sedro Woolley to
Quincy and finally to Bellingham, where
they resided since 1961. Anne returned
to school and graduated from Western
Washington University with a degree in
Education. She began her career as a
teacher in 1968 at Bellingham High
School, and shortly after taught at
Sehome High School where as a member of
the English Department, and where she
developed and taught a prep class in
college writing. Although an
accomplished English teacher, she and
George, also a high school teacher,
shared a common belief. They didn't
just teach a subject, they taught
kids. That basic foundation of their
educational philosophy endured long
after the Yonlick’s days in their
respective classrooms were over as
evidenced by the long term
relationships that they maintained with
former students.
Anne was preceded in death by her
husband George, her mother and father
and an infant son. She is survived by
and was most proud of her children,
daughter Cathie Howell, husband Phil
and granddaughters Kellee and Cody all
of Bellingham, and son Chris Yonlick
and wife Tasha and granddaughter Shann
Marie of Kirkland. Her brother Richard
Nord and his wife Dawn of La Conner,
and all her nieces and nephews, cousins
and their children will miss her wit,
wisdom and particularly her remarkable
poetry that recorded significant
historical family events in her unique
and captivating way.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of
Whatcom County, 800 E. Chestnut, Suite
C1, Bellingham, WA 98225. A Memorial
Reception will be held at Westford's
Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway, on
Wednesday, December 19 at 2 PM.
