Patricia Theresa Johnson

Patty Johnson, age 58, of Bellingham, passed away March 24, 2009 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She passed away at her mother's home surrounded by her family. She graduated from Sehome High School in 1968. Patty traveled many places around the world and enjoyed playing golf, planting flowers on her deck, and especially spending time with her friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Art Reynolds and her brother Tommy Reynolds. She is survived by her husband, George "Jody"; her mother, Kathleen Reynolds and three brothers, Mike (Sandy) Reynolds of Ferndale; Jerry Reynolds of Lynnwood and Alan (Lisa) Reynolds of CA and nieces and nephews. Patty was loved by many and had some very special friendships. We will miss her terribly, but she will always be with us~ in our hearts. We Hope You Dance! John T. Lallas

John T. Lallas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on March 19, 2009. He was born in Bellingham, on June 27, 1929 to Tom& Ester Lallas and spent his life as an active member of the Bellingham community and St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. John attended Bellingham High School where he excelled in football and baseball. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 during the Korean War. He received a Good Conduct Medal and an honorable discharge in 1953. John then joined forces with his younger brother George Lallas to own and operate the Royal Inn Restaurant which became a popular mainstay of downtown Bellingham over the next 30 years. In 1958, he married Irene Hohlios from Ogden, Utah and enjoyed raising three children with her over the next 50 years. John spent his free time hunting and fishing, and keeping his friends and family laughing. He was full of energy – the last 10 years he spent his Saturdays at the Bellingham Farmers Marker making gyros. He had a unique warmth and wit that we will all dearly miss. He is survived by his wife, Irene; children Tom Lallas, Magdalen Brown and Nick Lallas, all of Bellingham; sister Anna Rakus of Seattle; brother George Lallas of Bellingham; sisters-in-law Alta Lallas and Georgia Sentkowski of Bellingham and Venette Ward of Ogden, UT; grandchildren John, Maria, Nicolette, Michael, John, and Justin; great-grandchildren Anna and Lena; and over 40 nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church on Sunday, March 22 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm followed by the Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, March 23 at 11:00 am followed by burial at Bayview City Cemetery, with reception to follow back at the church. Donations may be made to St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.
Phillip Bert Holland

Phillip Bert Holland, age 90, of Lynden, passed away March 23, 2009. He was born August 23, 1918 in Haverhill, Iowa to George and Regina (Breckweg) Holland. From childhood Phil enjoyed new challenges, and as such he embarked on a series of adventures, including working on the Alaskan highway, owning and driving sprint cars, owning a tavern, sponsoring baseball teams, part ownership in a bowling alley, owning parking lots, and part ownership in an auto parts store. Phil married Melba Louise Gorans on May 25, 1956, in Seattle Washington. Following marriage, Phil and Melba settled in Belleview where their two children Shawna and John were born. Phil and Melba moved their family to Spokane in 1962, where Phil joined Washington Machinery and Supply Co. as the manager of the Motor Supply Division. In 1970, the family moved to Bellingham. Phil went to work for Nicholas Jerns Real Estate. He later worked for both Arnason Real Estate and Wheeler Real Estate. Phil finished his career in auto parts with United Auto Electric. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, boating, and golfing. Phil was a tough, charismatic guy with a great sense of humor. His bold personality developed quite a following at Highgate Senior Living. Our family is very grateful for the love and care that Phil received at Highgate. Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Gorans Holland. Phil is survived by his daughter Shawna (Curtis) Presley of Lynden; son John (Kerri) Holland of Bellingham; grandchildren Nicole (James) Rienstra, Evan Noteboom, Krista Beck, Aleah Holland, Hailey Holland; and brother Donald Holland of Arizona. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Friday, March 27 from 3- 5 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Saturday, March 28 at 12 noon followed by a reception across the street at Westford's Broadway Hall. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice.
Lindsey Claire Harvey Shahan

Lindsey C. Harvey Shahan, age 57 of Bellingham, passed away March 6, 2009. She was born June 28, 1951 in Bellevue, NE (SAC Offutt AFB) to parents Col USAF Ret. 2 John F.& Lilas Harvey. She attended 3 1/2 years at Denton, Texas Women's College in the Nursing Program and finished up at Brackenridge Hospital in the last RN Nursing program in the 70's. She is survived by her son, Dale Shahan, 23 years old, who is a firefighter in Whatcom County and is currently completing an Associate Degree at Skagit Valley College; mother Lilas Harvey of San Antonio, TX; sisters Pamela Jane Bennett of Monmouth, OR, Leigh F. Buchan of Edmonds, WA, and Jane E. Harvey of Austin, TX. Lindsey served as an RN at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, TX; Captain USAF at Nellis AFB, Nevada, and as a surgical nurse at the VA Hospital in Seattle, WA. Lindsey died from a progressive form of M.S. From the beginning, she fought hard, mostly through love, grace, humor, and her faith. Lindsey never felt sorry for herself. She ran the race and fought the good fight. Lindsey and her family have been blessed to have had loving family members, a devoted care giver and friend, and nurturing nursing home& staff at Mt. Baker Care Center, who cared for her every need for fourteen years. Funeral Services will be held at Hillcrest Chapel on Thursday, March 12 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception. The committal is to be at St. Matthew's Episcopal in Austin, TX at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Chapel, 1400 Larrabee Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225, designating either (1) Hillcrest Kids Early Learning& Childcare/Playground/Shahan Fund – in honor of Lindsey's love of children running and jumping and playing outdoors, or (2) Hillcrest Memorial Garden/Shahan Fund – for the purchase of a permanent garden plant in Lindsey's memory.
