Walter J. Oddson

Walter J. Oddson of Blaine born August 29, 1919 in
Blaine, WA, to Einar and Christine
(Hallson) Oddson. He was preceded in
born on January 28,
1913 on a farm near Shawneetown,
Illinois to Susan and George Scherrer.
The third of seven children, he spent
his youth in Shawneetown and graduated
from high school at age 16. In 1929 he
entered Southern Illinois University
where he earned a teacher’s
certificate. After two years of
teaching, in 1933, he accepted a
congressional appointment to the U.S.
Military Academy at West Point. He was
nicknamed “Pony” at West Point because
of his excellence in horsemanship.
Pony was stationed in the Fiji Islands
in 1943 where he met his wife, Joyce
Constance Kearsley. They Cemetery
on Friday, April 26, at 2:00pm.

Joseph P. Bocchi
6/1/1923 - 5/10/2002
It is with great sadness that we say
good bye to Joseph Bocchi, who passed
away at his Bellingham home on Friday,
May 10, 2002. He was 78 years old. He
was married Kathleen Pronschinske on May
28, 1949 in Arcadia, Wisconsin, and
moved to Bellingham, Washington in 1950
where they raised a family and built a
life together. Joe had a forty-year
career as a Medical Technologist. Upon
his retirement, Joe and Kathleen
traveled to many parts of the world.
Joe was a 52-year member of Assumption
Catholic Church, a member of the
Bellingham Jaycees in the 1950's and
60's, American Society of Medical
Technologist, a Food Bank volunteer,
and a charter member of the Italian
Club of the Northwest in which he
lovingly prepared Italian language
lessons for its members for the last
ten years. He was also currently active
as a volunteer at the Washington State
Archives. His hobbies included
gardening, crossword puzzles and
Seattle Mariner's baseball.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53
years, Kathleen; his four children,
Anita (Mike) Page of Snohomish, Gregory
(Linda) Bocchi of Fairfax Station,
Virginia, Eileen (Kevin) Bayer of Maple
Valley and Paul (Holly) Bocchi of
Lakewood; and brothers, Angelo (Gayle)
Bocchi of Lodi, California, Quinto
(Marge) Bocchi of Bloomington,
Minnesota and his sister, JoAnn Collins
of Pacific Palisades, California. He
was also a grandfather of seven:
Thaxton Page, Benjamin, Nicholas, and
Alexis Bayer, Joseph and Preston
Bocchi, and Matthew Bocchi. He was
preceded in death by his parents and a
sister, Linda Shukle.
Visitation will be held at Westford
Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at
9:00 to 11:00am. Funeral Mass will be
celebrated on Wednesday afternoon, May
15, 2002 at 1:00pm at Assumption
Catholic Church, Bellingham. Memorials
can be made to the Whatcom Literacy
Council, PO Box 1292, Bellingham,
Washington 98227 or the charity of your
choice.
