Terry Lane Cassidy

Terry Lane Cassidy, age 76, of Bellingham, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002. Terry was born June 9, 1925 in Bellingham to Lafe and Mayme Cassidy and graduated from Bellingham High School. Terry worked with Bechtol Corp., Ralph M. Parson, and C.E. Loomis on many projects around the world. He was a decorated veteran, serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine during WWII. Terry was an accomplished golfer, trapshooter, fresh and salt-water fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois and sons, Kenneth "Kip" Cassidy and Larry Lane Cassidy. He is survived by sons, Gary Cassidy of Bellingham and Fred Cassidy of Issaquah; daughter, Gerry Anne Sahlin of Bellingham; along with ten grandchildren. A gathering of friends will be held Tuesday, June 18, at 5:00 PM at the Squalicum Boathouse. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Whatcom County or the American Heart Assoc.
George A. Wolf, Jr.

George A. Wolf, Jr., 42, of Bellingham, went to be with his Savior on March 9, 2002 surrounded by his friends and family after a five-year battle with cancer. George had a gift for selflessly reaching out to others and in return was loved by many. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, who cared about his family, a true son and a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born October 27, 1959 in San Jose, CA, and moved to Bellingham at the age of one. George married Diane Sires, September 26, 1981 in Bellingham, WA. He worked at Georgia Pacific on the pulp side for 22 years. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Sires) Wolf, son Cory, 18, and daughter Megan, 15, all of the family home; parents George Sr. and Joyce Wolf, in-laws, Don and Kathy Sires all of Bellingham, WA; three brothers, Darryl (Terry) Wolf of Westminster, CO, Greg (Sonja) Wolf, and Al Coyle of Bellingham, WA, a sister Teresa (Wes) Weston of Swansboro, NC; 18 nieces and nephews and tons and tons of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be at Westford Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery Wednesday, March 13th at 11:00 am, followed by a 1:00pm Celebration of Life service at Hillcrest Chapel, 1400 Larrabee, Bellingham. David E. Whitaker

David E. Whitaker of Bellingham, age 87, passed away of congestive heart failure, March 9, 2002 at Pleasant Acres. He was born to Joseph and Marie (Kubis) Whitaker, February 8, 1915 in Wickersham, WA. He graduated from Whatcom High School in 1933 and he was a 75-year resident of Bellingham. David married Hazel Franklin, May 1978, and she preceded him in death, January, 1986. His parents and his brother, Leo Whitaker also preceded him in death. David is survived by sisters, June Miller of Kirkland, WA, and Elsie English, and five nieces. In his early 20's, David was an AB Seaman and working towards his Mate's License, but his working years were limited due to several serious illnesses including tuberculosis. During World War II serving with the Merchant Marine aboard a cargo ship during the winter months on the Bering Sea, the ship became iced down and unable to navigate. As a result of this traumatic event, he suffered a breakdown ending his career and the work he enjoyed. The family extends deep appreciation to his caring Legal Guardian and the caregivers who assisted David. Private family graveside services will be held at Bayview Cemetery. Alfred H. Johnson

Alfred H. Johnson, age 94, of Bellingham, WA, passed away March 8, 2002 at Cordata Health Care. He was born March 24, 1907 in Barton, ND, to John and Kari (Engeland) Johnson. The family moved to Whatcom County in March 1908. Alfred graduated from Whatcom High School in 1926. He served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter during WWII. Alfred married Erlene Mathiason-Vogel on May 14, 1955 in Bellingham, WA. Mr. Johnson worked for the city of Bellingham for 28 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Elks Club, VFW and DAV. Al was an amateur boxer and enjoyed building and using his 21-ft. cabin cruiser. Preceded in death by his brothers, James, Bernard and Clarence Johnson, sisters, Anna Larson, Ida Strand, Clara Carlson and Mabel Fosse, and stepson, Errol Vogel. Survived by his wife, Erlene A. Johnson of Bellingham, WA, stepsons, Leland Vogel of Centralia, WA, Bill Vogel and wife Bobby of Cypress, TX, and Gerald Vogel and wife Sandy of Lake Stevens, WA, step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Vogel of San Antonio, TX; nieces Marlene Hadley, Lorraine Kirk and Pearl Cummings and Diane Peterson; several grandnieces and nephews, 14 step-grandchildren and 13 great step- grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002. Eugenia "Gene" Wolf

Our beloved mother passed away March 5, 2002 at the age of 92 in Bellingham, Washington. She was born February 23, 1910 in Rastad, Russia. In 1929, she married her beloved husband of 56 years, Michael Wolf, son of Christian and Clementina (Friese) Wolf in Saskatchewan, Canada. She was preceded in death by Michael, born in Mott, North Dakota, and died in 1985 and their infant daughter Clementine, in 1930, her parents, Robert and Maria Anna (Schmidt) Fischer, three brothers, William, Anthony and Joseph and two sisters, Margaret Lauinger and Catherine Feist, all of Canada. Gene is survived by four sons, Delbert (Del) Wolf and wife, Marlene, George Wolf and wife, Joyce, Donald (Don) Wolfe and wife, Phyllis, and Thomas (Tom) Wolf and wife, Rhonda, all of Bellingham, and four daughters, Mary Underwood of Seattle, Sharlene (Shar) Hancken and husband, John of Anacortes, WA, Louise (Lee) Furin, Jr. and husband, Joseph, of Mount Vernon, Frances (Fran) Perry and husband Richard of Bellingham, 21 much loved grandchildren, 39 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Anne Boschman of Abbotsford, B.C., Canada, and Magdalena (Lena) Klassen of Cloverdale, B.C. Canada and brother John Fischer of Lacey, WA. Numerous Nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law also survive her. Vigil service will be held at Westford Funeral Home Chapel 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at Church of the Assumption with celebrant Fr. Jay DeFolco.
