Vera Noreen Hansen
8/19/1905 - 7/30/2002
Vera Noreen Hansen, age 96 of
Bellingham, WA, born August 19, 1905 in Bellingham, WA
to Louis and Lulie (Pugh) Dollenjack.
She graduated from Whatcom High School
in 1923 and from Bellingham Normal
School in 1925. Vera death in 1967. She
taught elementary school in Steven's
County, Tuttle River School in Cowlitz
Co. and Roeder Elementary in
Bellingham. Vera and her husband
Archie lived aboard their boat for
several years early in their marriage.
They owned and operated 2 taverns in
downtown Bellingham during the 1930’s.
She was a member of the Mt. Baker
Hiking Club since 1975 and enjoyed
hiking, traveling all over the world
and gardening.
Survived by her nephews, Ron Hansen and
wife Michaele of Bellingham, Stan
Harris of Surrey, BC; niece Betty
Holden of California; special friends,
Lynn and Bob Mortensen, Charlotte and
Doug Doolittle and Jo Simsick.
Doris Strahl-Wallen
6/26/1922 - 8/4/2002
Doris Strahl-Wallen, 80, a retired
waitress of 42 years at the Bellingham
Yacht Club and Bellingham Country Club
born in Great Falls, MT. She
death in August of 1983. She is
survived by two sons, Robert A. Strahl
of San Diego, Richard L. Strahl of
Anchorage, one daughter, Diane Button
of Monterey, and grandchildren
Michael, Greg, Julie, Laurie, Leslie,
Todd, Mark, and Brady, numerous great
grand children and one great-great-
granddaughter. She is also survived by
three sisters, Verna Rilling of Moses
Lake, WA, Carol Kinney of Seattle, WA
and Josephine Edmonds-Kuehn of
Seattle, WA.
Doris graduated from Bellingham High
School in 1940, and was an avid
reader, cribbage player, poker player,
and traveled extensively throughout
the US. She was also preceded in Cemetery in Bellingham, WA on Thursday
August 8th at 10:00 a.m. A reception
will be held immediately following at
the Fairhaven Park Pavilion. The family
suggests any memorial contributions be
made to Hospice House of the Central
Coast, Monterey.

Darwin Dash Prescott
7/10/1925 - 7/30/2002
Darwin Dash Prescott, passed away July 30,
2002. He was surrounded by his loving
family. Darwin is survived by his wife
Jewel, with whom he celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in April
2002. Other family survivors include
daughter, Candi and husband Randy Welsh
of Bellingham; sons, Randy Prescott of
Ferndale, Greg Prescott and wife Patty
of Port Townsend, Ron Dickerson and
wife Chris of Bellingham, Gary
Dickerson and wife Shirlee of
Bellingham; 10 grandchildren, Kim,
Kevin, Kelly, Kent, Tony, Tim, Kristi,
Todd, Molly, Darcell; and 17 great
grandchildren.
Darwin served in the U.S. Navy in both
WW II and the Korean War. He was a
lifetime member of the VFW. He was a
retired firefighter with 16 years of
service at Whidbey Is. Naval Air
Station Fire Department. Darwin will
be remembered for his quick wit,
wonderful smile and the devotion he
showed to his wife Jewel, his children
and grandchildren. Truly, he will be
missed by all of us.
A memorial service will be held 2:00pm
Friday, August 2, 2002 at St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church, 2117 Walnut,
Bellingham, with Rev. Robert Christie
and Rev. Kevin Allen officiating.
Military Honors will be presented by
the VFW. Memorials may be made to

Myrtle Cora Olstead
11/6/1907 - 2/8/2002
Myrtle Cora Olstead, age 94 of Custer,
WA, born on November 6, 1907 to
Gudmundt and Martha (Thorson) Knudsvig
on the Knudsvig homestead farm 6 miles
north of Upham and 6 miles east of
Bantry in Layton Township, North Dakota.
Her early education was at the Layton
Consolidated School and she graduated
from Upham High School in 1925. She
received her teaching certificate from
Minot State Teacher's College in 1931.
She began her teaching career at her
home school of Layton where she taught
primary grades for three years and
served as principal and upper grade
teacher for a year. She continued to
teach for a total of ten years in rural
North Dakota schools.
Myrtle death by: her
parents; Ernest Olstead, her husband of
fifty years; an infant brother; brother
Johannes Knudsvig; and two children --
Erma Karen and Mervin Olstead.
She is survived by her son, Halvar and
his wife, Alvina of Bellingham and
their three children Melody, Wendy, and
Josie; her brother George and his wife
Gerd of Grand Forks, North Dakota;
Sister-in-law Viola Knudsvig of Upham,
North Dakota; and cousin Ruth Wagar and
family, numerous nieces and nephews and
their families.
Funeral services will be held 11:00
a.m. Friday, February 15, 2002 at Zion
Lutheran Church, Ferndale, WA. In lieu
of flowers, memorials may be made to
Zion Lutheran Church, Ferndale Food
Bank, or your favorite charity.
