In Memory of Joe Bertero:
In Heaven's Garden
In Heaven's Garden where Joe is now
Flowers and vegetables grow
The soil is rich and the sun is bright
With plenty of seeds to sow
Angels are waiting for their starts
Tomatoes and carrots and peas
With colorful flowers that warm their hearts
Surrounded by budding trees
In Heaven's Garden the rainbow glows
As the raindrops touch each seed
And in their time will age like wine
Without any sign of a weed
I see Joe's name across the door
Of a greenhouse filled with love
Small boxes of seedlings on the floor
And his gardeners tools above
In Heaven's garden the seeds abound
They are always in Joe's sight
The peas and beans are getting tall
So need to be tied just right
The leeks and lettuce will ripen soon
And tomato suckers pinched;
Joe will pick the beans himself
From the garden inch by inch;
In heaven's garden you can tell
Is the place where Joe should be
With braided garlic around the gate
And birds that fly so free
Heaven's Garden will flourish now
With Joe there day and night
To see that all is going well
And the seeds are planted right!
