Vince Muljat
1/19/1918 - 9/22/2003

Vince Muljat, age 85, of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born January 19, 1918 to Nicholas and Helen (Bakulich) Muljat in Bellingham.
Vince lived his entire life here in Bellingham, and graduated from Fairhaven High School.
He married Katherine (Repanich) Muljat on February 25, 1942.
In World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and saw active duty in Alaska, Hawaii, and Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, as a Chief Petty Officer.
After the war, he became a commercial fisherman and with his brother Frank.
Together, they started Muljat Brothers Fishing Co.
They commercial fished for salmon, herring, and tuna throughout the entire West Coast from Alaska through Mexico.
After 50 years of fishing, he retired in 1984.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Mark and Nick.
Vince is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Katherine; son, Mark (Linda) Muljat and grandson, Zachery; brother, Frank (Mary) Muljat; sister-in-law, Grace Repanich, all of Bellingham.
Nephews Nick Muljat, Frank (Sandee) Muljat, Dr. Frank (Nancy) Repanich, all of Bellingham.
Also survived by nephew Michael (Diana) Repanich of Bellevue; niece, Pam (Dr. Ron) Corbin of Idaho Falls, ID, along with numerous other relatives.
Vince enjoyed traveling, all sporting events, and wintering in his condo in Las Vegas.
He was a stockholder and Board of Director of the original Bellingham Dodgers/Mariners.
He was also a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club, Bellingham Yacht Club, Bellingham Golf and Country Club, and the Washington Club.
A Rosary Vigil will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sunday, September 28 at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, September 29 at 12:00 noon, with Father Frank Schuster officiating, followed by a Graveside Service at Bayview Cemetery with full military honors by the American Legion Post #7.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sacred Heart Parish Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
He will be missed by his family and many friends.

James Paul Harburg
3/13/1921 - 9/20/2003

James P. (Jim) Harburg passed away Saturday evening, after a birthday celebration for his wife of 59 years, Pat and daughter, Nancy.
He was surrounded by family members sharing special memories of his honesty, integrity, unfailing sense of humor, and tender love for his family.
Jim was born in Denver, Colorado, March 13, 1921, where he spent his youth prior to entering the Army Air Corp, starting a career that spanned 28 years.
Jim was a L5 pilot, worked in the OSS during WWII, taught photography, and completed his career in the Minuteman Missile Systems.
After his retirement from the military, Jim worked and traveled in the southwest before settling in Bellingham, in 1973, where he worked as rural carrier with the Postal Service.
Jim enjoyed golf, bowling, was a gardener known for his especially sweet and tasty raspberry crop, a model airplane flying enthusiast, and was an avid reader.
Jim lived the Biblical charge: "This is what Yahweh asks of you: act justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with your God". (Micah 6:8)
Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia, brother, Bill Harburg; daughters, Deedra Thompson, Nancy Raymer, Paula Wlaznak, Elizabeth Harburg-Petrich, Melinda Harburg; sons, Michael, Peter and David; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mass will be held Friday, October 3rd at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church with a luncheon to follow.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation.

Carol Alice Boyle
1/3/1925 - 10/2/2003

Carol Alice Boyle, age 78, of Bellingham, and Tacoma, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born January 3, 1925 in Tacoma, to Clarence and Delpha Sheetz.
Carol traveled extensively in her life, spending time in both Europe, and the Philippines, where she assisted as a missionary.
She worked as an administrative assistant at both Fort Lewis, and McChord AFB, for many years.
After retirement, she volunteered as a reader for the Community Services for the Blind in Tacoma, for 6 years.
She was an avid reader with broad interests and a keen and inquiring mind.
Carol is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters; Dennis Kilgore and wife, Carrie of Portland, Oregon; Jerry Kilgore and wife, Saralee Sky of Bellingham; Patricia Gregory of Dallas, Texas; Thomas Kilgore of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Joy McDonald and husband, John of Berea, Kentucky.
Carol had 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 423 Martin Luther King Way, in Tacoma, Washington, on Thursday, October 9th at 2 pm.
Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Community Services for the Blind.
Her family and friends wish her love on her journey.

Bernard Anthony Tromp
10/23/1912 - 9/6/2003

Bernard Tromp was born October 23, 1912 to Dutch immigrants, Peter and Catherine Tromp.
He was the 9th of 11 children.
He grew up in Laurel, Oregon, and married Lidwina Jasper in Aberdeen, on October 11, 1937.
Bernard moved to Bellingham, afterwards.
He was a member of Assumption Church since he moved to Bellingham, and also a member of the Local 239 Machinists.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 sisters; 3 brothers; and his wife, Lidwina, who passed away in 1996.
He is survived by 3 daughters; Catherine of Bellingham, Alice (Ken) Quam of Mt. Vernon, and Irene (Jack) Mitchell of Seattle; 3 grandchildren, Kris, Sarah, and Jacob Quam.
Also survived by his brother, Bill (Marge) Tromp of Portland, OR.
Bernard worked at Bellingham Shipyards during WWII and at Uniflite for over 25 years.
He enjoyed gardening and woodworking in retirement.
He could fix anything, and was always willing to help others.
Since 2001, he was a resident of the Cottage at Highgate House.
There he loved to sing and play his harmonica.
His happy spirit will be sorely missed.
He passed away at St. Joseph Hospital, September 6, 2003.

you were so special,
and we'll always miss you.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 10 at Westford Funeral Home from 12 – 5:00 PM.
A Prayer Vigil will follow at Westford Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening.
The Funeral Services will be held at Assumption Church at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 11, followed by a Graveside Service at Bayview Cemetery.
