Isabella Wilson Graham
3/22/1912 - 2/8/2004
Isabella Wilson. passed away in the care of her loving
nieces: Carolyn Graham, Catherine
Skelly, and Gail Petite. Isabella was
married twice: first
to Frederick Emerton in 1930 and then
to Archibald Alton McConnell until the
early 1940s. She was busily
independent after that. For most of
her working life Isabella was employed
as a telephone operator with Bell
Telephone in Detroit, Michigan, and
then in Bellingham, Washington, where
she stayed on until retirement. But
she quickly found retirement "boring"
and took a job as a clerk at Western
Washington State College, in
Bellingham, where she loved sparring
intellectually with the students and
staff. Isabella's life centred around
her nieces, nephews, cousins, and
their families. She had a fabulous
genealogy, family photograph
collection, and lots of stories about
her Scottish heritage. Isabella was a
Republican, a patriot, and believed in
America and God. She was a generous
person and prayed for those in need.
Isabella always dressed stylishly and
looked at least ten years younger than
her age. She sewed her own clothes
and sewed for all her sibling's children.
She was handy in many ways. She loved
working in the garden, picking berries
in the woods, and canning fruits,
jams, and vegetables. Nearing the age of
ninety she obtained a computer from
her nephew, John Graham, and began surfing
the net. She kept in touch with all
her relatives by E-mail and enjoyed
talking to them on the phone.
Isabella will be sadly missed by her nieces
and nephews: Lynda Daddona, John Graham,
Cathie Henry, Raymond Skelly, Robert
Skelly, Gail Petite, Kelly Horton,
Graham Skelly, Catherine Skelly, and
Patricia Williams and all their
children, family members, and
relatives. Her house in Bellingham,
the cabin at Birch Bay, and her family
and relatives played important roles
in her life. Isabella was loved by all
and will not be forgotten. Relatives
would like to thank the Whatcom
Hospice Society for their kind dedication to
our aunt Isabella. Cremation
arrangements through Westford Funeral
Home, Bellingham, WA. A memorial
service, followed by an open house,
will be held at the home of Isabella's
dear friends, Ben and Harriet Cain,
959 Queen Street, Bellingham, WA.
1pm-3pm on Saturday, February 21, 2004.
Graveside service will take place at
the Fraserview Cemetery in New
Westminster, BC. (south of Richmond
Street by the east perimeter fence) on
a date to be announced. No flowers by
